Since HoT is such a vertical map, Rangers are limited in the pets that will be usefull there.
So it makes sence to add a few species of Griffon as charm-able pets there.
You can’t expect a ranger to hold their bear or stalker while gliding off a cliff after all.
And the Moa bird can’t fly at all either.
I checked the wiki and there are only 5 Charmable pets that can actually fly.

If i have to do some kind of beast mastery specialization for it, thats fine. If i need to rob a Griffon nest for an egg thats FINE. But pretty please, with a delux expantion pack preorderd on top. Consider giving the Griffons some ranger love!

I support the idea! And raptor pets too, please! They can’t fly, but are still Maguuma/Tarnished Coast themed.

Yes, we suck! More buffs please. Can I have both pets out at the same time? That would be awesome.

Rangers got their longbow buffed a lot. I’d say they’re one of the strongest ranged DPS classes at the moment, if not the strongest.

I main a ranger at the moment. I’m not really disappointed in DPS terms. Part of it is that I melee a lot, but still…

Totally on board with adding griffons as pet options though, have been hoping for that since day 1. Owl/Hawkeye/whatever the mail carrier one is would make for a nice trio, doubly so if aerial pets become relevant. (I have my doubts on that – I’m not sure HoT will allow attacking from the air – but if it did, rangers would need their pets to join in to keep up. )

Griffin as pet would be soooo cool, this alone could get me into playing my ranger more…

Griffon pet is definitely something I would support for rangers.

Aw c’mon, aren’t you being a little harsh? My Ranger hasn’t seen a champion it didn’t solo so far. Its a awesome single-targer pve character, and a big burst PvP killer. I love my ranger, its awesome.
And its silvary with red eyes, i think i’m going to get a lot of racial profiling in the upcoming expansion with that char… Good thing he wears a hood and mostly human clothing.

Now being serious, the only real fault i see is when you get multiple targets. Most Aoe skills are big on cooldowns, so you end up needing penetrating arrows, which are awesome for tagging that extra mob you really didn’t want to. Still, for PvE content, my ranger is my top pick most of the time.

Back on topic, i agree, Griffins would be an awesome addition to the pet roster. Not just because they fly, because while it might be a bit immersion breaking, you know that the pet will follow you upwards or downwards wherever you go it will teleport there :p. But because, i mean they’re awesome, and Ogres already have them as pets, why not the rangers?

Tell that to rangers who win PvP by pressing 2 from a ledge whenever it is off cooldown. They aren’t exactly in a bad place.

So much this!!! I have wanted a griffon pet since I first saw one ig GW2… a litttle jelaous on those ogres I must say. Now would be a perfect time to introduce more exciting flying pets other than small birds…

Griffons, Skelk, Raptors and Skales are all pretty high up on my wish list.

For the most part, often times when you meet these creatures in the wilderness they’re neutral. My point is that you never have a “pet minotaur”, “pet skelk”, or “pet raptor”. Ranger pets are mostly unimportant animals.

Often, yes, but not always. Except for low-level areas, when you see bears, wolves, or big cats, they are usually hostile. Wayfarer Foothills is one of the major exceptions, but there are non-hostile (yellow) griffons there too. Only about two or three, but hey

The other thing is, I’m not sure how much difference this really makes. “Importance” isn’t a well-defined measure, and it’s hard to see why it would be used as a criterion for determining whether something is suitable as a ranger pet. Some things that are less difficult to argue is that a ranger pet should not be overpowered, it should not be corrupted (e.g. branded), and it should be possible to give it four abilities with respectable animations for them. It also makes more sense if it isn’t something highly exotic (e.g. there are only a handful in Tyria) or too big.

I don’t believe any of the above apply to griffons. They would make one of the larger pets, but I believe drakes are bigger? I’m not even sure how “important” I would consider them since they are… pretty much all over the place and don’t seem to be a Big Bad or beasts of particularly great power.

Well since we’re asking for stuff that will never happen here, let me add mine. INDIVIDUAL PET NAMES for ALL PETS. Please! For the love of god, me and my pets have been together for almost 3 years now. They’re not juvenile anymore, they’ve grown. Trust me. They’re all adults now i promise they can handle having a permanent name now.

Still want Deer and Moose, and other cervidae that aren’t in the game but should be, like Gazelle in Ascalon.

Plus, deer would fit the new druid shtick perfectly, in every fiction when a druid character is introduced its either alongside a deer or a unicorn. And Unicorns are apparently mythological in Tyria, so that settles that.

Oh, and Minotaur, they are CONFIRMED by the personal story to be natural creatures in the world of Tyria and not hybrids as in most mythos.

EDIT: And who on earth is saying Rangers don’t get actual enemies as pets? Do you even play a ranger? Pets which are also enemies include: Every feline, every spider, every type of bear, 3 of the 5 canines, every type of devourer, every type of drake, armorfish, sharks, and jellyfish depending on the area. Birds and are the only complete set of pets which do not attack players.

I wouldn’t mind having new pets for my ranger. It’s just another little collection option, and there’s been a grand total of one pet added since launch: the reef drake, from Southsun Cove. I was kind of disappointed that out in Dry Top and the Silverwastes, we didn’t see any tamable animals (with the exception of a couple of moas near the centaur oasis, but we already had those).

I’ll be extremely disappointed if there aren’t new pets for the ranger in the Heart of the Maguuma. After all, if they are becoming druids, don’t we need new companions to join this raise in status? I hesitate to suggest this, but maybe we’ll even see specialization-locked pets? Maybe not, since druids can switch back to rangers freely…

Griffons would be very cool. There’s a lot of cool ranger pets they could add really, things already in the game that we can’t actually tame. Drakes, basilisks, bats, dolphins, dolyak, fleshreavers, fish, crabs, triops, sea scorpions, griffons, pinipals, insects, minotaurs, oozes, thorn wolves, raptors, sea turtles, skale, skelk, wind riders.

The risen chicken Twitchy shows that we can liberate elder dragon minions. That could present some cool ranger pets. Branded, risen, destroyers, icebrood…minions of every dragon really.

I think they also missed an opportunity with the living story, and the maps that come with it. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could get some special twisted pet? Or a little karka pet? How about a giant spotted beetle? Build your own steam creature, anyone?
