All the Elder Dragons thus far have cultural bases for their name, and from multiple different areas in the world for diversity and variation. And so, I want to hear your guesses at the culture, land, or name of the Deep Sea Dragon. To help you all, here’s the names, culture, and general area the other dragons come from:

Primordus: Rome/Latin-[Central Europe]
Zhaitan: Islam/Arabic-[Middle East]
Jormag: Norse Myth-[Northern Europe]
Kralkatorric: Indonesian Volcano-[Indonesia]
Mordemoth: Celtic/Arthurian|&|Hebrew-[Ireland/Britain]

Why is Mordremoth Athurian? I rather see his name as hebrew influenced, like Behemoth.

You don’t win friends with salad! Sorry I just got caught up in the rhythm.

Hn, didn’t think of that. Was thinking Sir Mordred from the Round Table, but I’ll add Hebrew to it as well since it seems to have a bit of both.

With the creatures from the depths, tentacles, and untold horrors, I was guessing something Lovercraftian as well.

Without things related to it to figure out from, it’s near impossible to tell. One could go how Mordremoth is akin to Mordred and sylvari hold Arthurian references, and Jormag could come from norse mythology (Jormungandr) and norn hold norse references too, and use such to argue looking at krait or largos for a possible rl reference point to seek out possible names – doing such would point us to Arabic more or less.

However asura lack latin/roman references (they went to charr), and charr lack anything indonesian-like to fit Kralkatorrik, so that fails.

And without any in-game references or possibilities, you’re basically left with endless possibilities.

The name can end up being “Ph’nglui” for all we can care to guess.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Just to throw us all off, its name will be Bill. Or Ben.

Yes… Ben. I like that. Then we can call it Big Ben.

Well like Konig said it is a very wild guess. But I would go for Kelekona (Hawaiian dragon)

My own guess: Vritra, Hindu Dragon that “kept the waters of the world captive”. This seemed to fit the DSD pretty well.

I’d love them to keep the Lovecraftian theme in naming as well as in appearance (if that early concept art with tentacled minions is correct).

I like the names people have come up with so far. Leviathan is probably the least exciting in direct comparison. I like Kelekona the best, so far.

looking at krait or largos for a possible rl reference point to seek out possible names – doing such would point us to Arabic more or less.

Eh… only if you go with largos, and it’s unlikely that he would be largos-inspired (+ we already have an Arabic Elder Dragon). Given how the krait and their Prophet(s) are pretty much doing and wanting what a water-based, ocean-dweller Elder Dragon would be doing/wanting I say it would have a “kraitish” name – especially if it turns out they have legends about him or he is actually THE Prophet.

And then there’s Nymfassa, Head Slaver and Hypnoss.
