So its been over a year and the bridges in Lions Arch haven’t been fixed. This is a problem for me. Im one of those bigger Charrs (big boned) and I happen to fall down every once in while. I mean its been over a year in real life since the invasion, how long has it been in the game? Are the workers in lions arch not capable of building a bridge or on strike.
The other day I was running somewhere though the land of the Norns (forgot at the moment) and you have to defend the workers while they repair the bridge(bigger than lion’s arch) and whalaa the bridge was fixed in 5 minutes.

Note: I demand a plaque for all the charrs who have fallen though that bridge!!

It’s actually an interesting idea you present here. Should have been possible for ANet to repair the bridges (and possibly: stairs, pathways etc.) fairly easily without using a huge amount of time.

It would certainly be interesting if such smaller changes could be slowly implemented now, then the bigger ones later. I guess the reason may be though; that they don’t want to simply repair the city, but create a full makeover. The bridges may eventually be moved alltogether.

Wildlife has been returning, I believe 1 or 2 bridges have been built/repaired, I also see more plants and the sky is less dark.

There are subtle differences for those astute enough to see.

But yes, progress has been slow.

The question is, what is faster? The workers, or the wildlife regaining their territory?

LOL without knowing every factor involved? Who knows?

I would put money on Wildlife returning because they can “migrate” from other areas, also most plants that grow in there are also pretty fast growing tropical stuff.

@Novuake: Those changes happened in two points, and not subtle at all. The first was during Aftermath (which added primarily scavengers and some Lionguard), and the second was during Festival of the Four Winds (which added the skritt in the cave, returned the pirates, added the three crafting station hubs, returned the gates to LA, and mostly emptied the refugee camps outside of LA). Aside from those two points, there were 0 changes, aside from the new dialogue scene with Evon, o-Tron, Kiel, and Magnus in Fort Marriner which was added with Episode 8.

@Quickninja: As a charr player who fell into those wholes many times… I really wish they fixed those bridges asap… At least when they did the second set of fixes with Festival of the Four Winds (when they removed scavengers and added in the crafting stations again).

There was definitely a third minor one, I remember the Festival update and there wasn’t any wildlife in that one, nor were there any larger tropical plants, mostly just grass. Sorry for the bump.

And this is why we should have voted for Evon! He’s the Charr that gets things done! The Black Lion Trading Post was working before, during and after the invasion of LA. Clearly it shows Evon’s managerial powers.

If Evon had won, then there would just be no representation for both infrastructure and defense spending, as he would have turned the whole council to just tax reform, tax hikes, taxes, taxes, and more taxes. But at least he would get along with the council better than Kiel, so I guess that’s something.

First the dialogue between Kiel and Magnus, introducing Hero-tron. Then Evon talking to Hero-tron about having to tell Evon all “the juicy tidbits”. While Magnus and Kiel are still standing right there!
That just doesn’t make sence. Also there is Evon’s twin…

There were definitely scavengers of many races here and there kneeling besides the ruined houses during the early months of LA after Scarlet’s invasion. Whenever I tried to approach them to get a closer look, they noticed me and vanished.

I haven’t been paying too close attention, so many of the more subtle changes must’ve passed me by. I do hope that this trend of updates here and there continues far into the future, though, and we see LA slowly returning to life and to its former/rebuilt glory over time. However, it seems this might not come to pass if this foreboding conversation is anything to go by about people’s unrest and losing trust on the council to get anything done…

Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Parts of the city are still unsafe. But once we fix—
Citizen: I’m tired of excuses, Magnus. The city’s a wreck. If you can’t get Lion’s Arch on its feet, you’re going to wake up and find this a ghost town.
Captain Ellen Kiel: Who was that?
Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: One of the hungry. Jobless. In mourning. And her anger is going to have company when we bring more of them back in.
Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: We’re not ready for this. We’ve barely started to make the city livable again.
[…]
Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Look, we’re going to have a lot of people coming back without homes or jobs.
Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: No jobs mean lots of idle hands. I can handle a little crime. This city was founded on it. But riots? They’ll end everything.

Here’s to hoping that when the inevitable kitten hits the fan (whether through riots or something else like Consortium shenanigans), Evon Gnashblade, Hero of Lion’s Arch, will be ready to save the city he considers his and our home. He’s not the hero LA deserves but the hero it needs in this time of crisis, and his new, profitable alliance with Hero-Tron will ensure a bright future for us all. Go, Team Gnashblade! ^^

the Captain’s Council keep talking in circles about defense spending

That would be better though. For the past few years, Lions Arch has suffered a major assault 4 times. First Risen, then Karka, Then Aetherblades and finally Scarlet’s army. And LA isn’t exactly a fortress, most of it’s buildings are made from scrap wood, there is no artillery anywhere, no fortifications basically nothing to defend it. Yes there is a small vigil fortress but having the entire city conquered and destroyed except for that small fortress doesn’t help much either.

As a result LA is ruined. After all those assaults the captain’s council should turn LA in one big super fortress.

Heads should be rolling in Lions Arch right now.

If Evon won, not only would we have had Lion’s Arch rebuilt, but we’d also have tax reform, universal health care, and racial marriage equality.

Kiel should definitely stop writing threatening letters to Mordremoth, and instead focus on helping the immigrants to LA get a fair shake.

It’s not long ago even waypoints in LA got destroyed (the one in Fort Marriner), and the threat of Mordremoth is far from removed. It was a Sylvari under his control that destroyed LA in the first place; and just a little while ago the Pact Fleet got shot down over the Maguuma Jungle…

So… with the little funds you’ve got; would you rebuild your city or ensure the threat was removed first?

Yes – I get it people want LA back, but imho it just doesn’t make sense to rebuild something that recently got destroyed when you have no guarantee it won’t be blown to bits again by the same dragon should it rise.

Her and Magnus are the most senior members of the Lionguard. Even without aid from the Council they should have been more prepared than they were. Sometimes leadership means making big decisions. Kiel could have used her authority as a senior member of the Lionguard to begin a precautionary evacuation of the city without support from the Captain’s Council.

I get Magnus is a senior member of the Lionguard, but not Kiel. She is the most recent entry in the council and pretty young. Also I do not recall any LA councillor having more autority than the other, it seems all pretty equal.

If you had read Sea of Sorrows you would understand how hard it is to get stuff done in LA, the Captians Counsel is devided and stingy at the best of times and I am sure it is MORE so after Cobiah Marriner’s death(much later by now, I know, but he is the only truly “good” commodore to have been a strong advocate of growth and the rights of the people in the city that we can compare with).

Before the invasion there where plenty of people there. You would be surprised at how many people would return, home is home after all. And if Tyria is anything like the real world, people would come from all around to help rebuild. Is that what the zepherites where up to before session two? Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Look, we’re going to have a lot of people coming back without homes or jobs.
Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: No jobs mean lots of idle hands. I can handle a little crime. This city was founded on it. But riots? They’ll end everything.
Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Can you help people get back to work?
Hero-Tron: I—can—do—that.

…Here’s to hoping that when the inevitable kitten hits the fan (whether through riots or something else like Consortium shenanigans), Evon Gnashblade, Hero of Lion’s Arch, will be ready to save the city he considers his and our home. He’s not the hero LA deserves but the hero it needs in this time of crisis, and his new, profitable alliance with Hero-Tron will ensure a bright future for us all. Go, Team Gnashblade! ^^

Hero? Wasn’t he essentially strong-armed into using BLTC resources to aid the city?

And continuing with the aforementioned dialogue, it looks like he’s up to something fishy. He’s blackmailing the Hero-Tron into being his informant.
