So I was wondering.
Rytlock jumped into the mists and did some magic stuff then pop there he is, re-rolled to Revenant.

Now let’s bring this up: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/hidden-arcana-role-playing-the-revenant/
but particulary this part:

“The story of how charr tribune Rytlock Brimstone became the first revenant hasn’t yet been told, but at the launch of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, he’ll have brought the knowledge of how to obtain that power to the world of Tyria, making it somewhat common knowledge. There’s no profession-specific story content planned for the expansion, but a brand-new revenant starting on their journey will not have had to visit the Mists or undergo any more of an advanced process to access revenant powers than they would for the other core professions. All that’s necessary to begin training as a revenant is knowledge of the profession, the faith and will to reach into the Mists, and an open mind.”

It is said that one can become a revenant if he/she has the determination and necessar knowledge to become a revenant without being stuck in the Mists just like Rytlock was.

Now what I wanted to ask you about:
Is this the only way to create our revenant in the term of lore?
I give you this question because I wonder if I could make a revenant compared on our definition: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revenant

Is this a hard lore breaking concept that a certain character could get defeated (not killed but it looked like it died, you know this stuff happens) in battle and then regain its consciousness days after and while being lost in the world it finds a way to commune with the Mists? Be it another revenant or an event that happens to leave us with a stigma or some sort of thing that allows us to tap into and understand the powers of the Mists. (Let’s not dig too deep on that as this is a thing of mistery that happens off-stage and is hard to describe even by Rytlock himself for now, let’s just think of it in the way of attached file).
It’s mostly due to the fact that there aren’t many random mist portals opening every now and then, right?
So if there are means of learning the way of revenant without going into the mists (Rytlock style), then are we save to take the concept of our real world revenant as someone who “dies” and “returns”?

EDIT:
The main thought behind all that is using one character to sort of “die” but its body couldn’t be recovered by let’s say guild members thus left behind, and then return months later as a revenant (re-roll but in a roleplay way).

The thing to becoming a literal “revenant” (as opposed to being a person who has studied how to use the Mists like it seems to imply) is that you need to leave Tyria before you can return. Being defeated does not necessarily work in all cases, as it’s not death.

As I see it, we have two options:

1.) We physically leave the physical world and enter the Mists through a portal or tear of some kind, and return

2.) You might be able to argue that your character suffered a near-death experience in which case their spirit may have departed for the Mists, and while there were imparted with the skills to become a revenant, but a timely rescue and a long recovery eventually ended up to their return to life.

In the latter case though, it would be almost impossible to pull off without some kind of rescue. People who are left on the battlefield to die either get up and go home or just perish due to blood loss. They would need to be rescued from certain death for #2 to work.

Also, if the first point is correct (meaning a revenant is someone who has gone into the Mists and returned), doesn’t that make every Norn shaman a revenant because they are fully capable of opening portals to the Mists for themselves and others, and successfully return in most cases.

Just entering the Mists is obviously not enough to make someone a revenant. Our characters have traveled into the mists all the time through the use of asura gates into WvW and Heart of the Mists, not to mention the Fractals of he mists. Something else must have happened to Rytlock.
