What GW1 Lore have you spotted?
I found the ruins of the serenity temple in blazeridge steppes
The Granite Citadel in Dredgehaunt Cliffs. For the heart there you can decipher Dwarven tombstones (or something) which bear the names of the GW1 henchmen.
And of course there is this piece of dialogue from Rurikton in the Reach:
“Found any new scrolls?”
“Yes! I found some rather remarkable scrolls about a group of adventurers some centuries ago.”
“They escaped Ascalon right before the Searing, crossed the Kingdom of Kryta, joined and betrayed the White Mantle, and even faced a lich lord!”
“Wow. Maybe someday, we’ll meet heroes like that.”
All of this and you have not found the “Temple of Ages” in Queensdale yet? Shame on you.
Jokes aside:
Temple of Ages – Queensdale Skill Point in the swamp.
Dagnar Stonepate Dragon Blood Sword " The Sanguinary Blade" – Priory story path only.
I know not many would remember Dagnar Sword since it was only briefly mentioned back in GW1 lore during GW1’s early years about the stone summit but the story that Anet expanded on this sword in GW2 helps explains why the Stone Summit are evil and hint to what may have happened to the Stone Summit since we know that the sword was made out of dragon’s blood, as mentioned back in GW1, but now that we confirmed it is the blood of Jormag we can expect to see the Stone Summit again in GW2 once we reach the Jormag Act of the Story.
the ashford abbey still stands in the plains of ashford
The charr lands are riddled with them. There is Ascolon city of course and the ones already mentioned.
- There is peices of stormcaller in the Black Citadel. There is also a priory scholar trying to find out what happened actually happened in the battle Burntfur died, down in the ruins.
- There is a priory member looking for the Tome of the Fallen down in the ruins of Rin. There is also a ghost who sometimes appears down near the water in that area that was curse by the book and who I think was the guy who gives you the bonus mission to return the Tome of the Fallen in GW1.
- There is a Searing Cauldron on an island in the Iron Marches that either is or is like the one that caused the Searing. Theres a DE where a group of Flame Legion attempt to use it to cause another Searing but it doesnt have enough juice and so only dumps a mini Searing on a nearby village.
- Also in the Iron Marches is the Ruins of Piken Square.
- Again in the Iron Marches is a Priory scholar studying an arch to try and discover something of her ancestor. This Ancestor it the Ghost in the very first Mission in Prophecies how asks you to collect his armor for the bonus mission. I assume the Arch is the place where you meet him in GW1.
- Nicholas the Traveler and Professor Yakkington both have graves in Ebonhawke along with several of the members of the Ebon Falcons.
- Jora’s decendent is a member of the Vigil and can be found in the instanced part of Vigil Keep.
- (SMALL SPOILER) Ogden is part of the Durmond Priory
- Stefan, the warrior henchman in prophecies is sadly one of the victims of the foefire and his ghost appears in a charr personal story (made me sad).
Ill post some more when I think of them.
Thanks to everyone who has posted here so far. I see I have many more sites to explore and NPCs to check out. I always find it exciting when I run into these places or items. I appreciate all the work ANET did to make sure there was continuity between the two games. =)
Also in another thread I posted info about Pockmark Rough which is almost identical to the crater-like basin with the giant crystal formation in Pockmark Flats. I remember killing quite a few elementals and wind riders there while on quests. The info at the site says it’s still the original crystal formation from the time of the Searing
One more location I forgot about before is Wizard’s Tower which you could see from Kessex Peak in GW1. It can now be seen from Wizard’s Fief in the southeastern area of Kessex Hills. It’s still on the floating rock island in the sky.

I located this spot in Iron Marshes. It is generally in the correct location for the first mission and the arch should be the entrance to his mausoleum or what’s left of it. Just as you mentioned his ghost was standing next to it when we did the bonus. Interestingly his name was Kilnn Testibrie and the Scholar is Aimee Testibrie. There’s a POI named Kilnn’s Rest.
Also the ruins of Grendich Courthouse are in Diessa Plateau.

Before Arah, Ogdens part of the norn level 20-30 storyline.
You can come across the iron horse mines, underwater in frostgorge sound
I cant remember where exactly, or what his name is, but one of the gate guards from ascalon can be found in an alcove along the great wall somewhere
Remembered another one – in northern Brisban Wildlands around a lake there are some restless ghosts. These are ghosts of the collectors from GW1, those that used to hang around the area, and in the south of the map is the Shattered Henge and Fort Koga.
Actually, since you mentioned the Brisbane Wildlands, it reminds me that on the western edge of the map there is an area at the location of Aurora Glade in GW1 where the ghosts of White Mantle and Shining Blade play out a battle including a DE where you can help the Shining Blade ghosts fight the White Mantle ones.

Anyone who’s gone to the Durmand Priory in Lornar’s Pass has found where Ogden now lives, in a ledge under the Priory itself. In fact it’s a POI. By the way, Ogden, judging from the cutscenes in the Norn/Order of Whispers personal story, seems to have taken on the stone form since the events of EOTN.
I found Sanford and Yakkington’s grave at Ebonhawke.
“Home at last”
@ joe. You are correct. Priory members can actually speak with him in the priory. He’s in gixx’s office. Whether you can get in there before finishing the personal story I dont know, but its when I stumbled onto it.
I found the Hero Anton’s grave in Gendarran Fields.
It’s in the snowy area up against the animal fighting pits where you do the renown heart. It’s a small unmarked grey headstone, and when you interact with it Anton’s ghost appears and talks to you about himself.
Speaking of graves, there’s one for Kilroy Stonekin in the Granite Citadel.
When doing the Straits of Devastation it was interesting to climb to the top of Vizier Khilbron’s tower. (Quite a good jumping puzzle btw.) There are a number of artifacts that you can interact with giving a little more insight into the Vizier and the sinking of Orr.
8. In Fireheart Rise, I found a burning forest (there’s even a skill point there) which reminded me of the one in Sacnoth Valley (Eye of the North) located not far from the Catacombs of Kathandrax. The Burning Forest seems to be in the same general area.
I would like to point out that although the two locations do share some similarities, Sacnoth Valley and Fireheart Rise are not close enough for the two to be considered the same location. Sacnoth Valley is in the southeastern corner of the Blood Legion Homelands while Fireheart Rise is in the northwest corner of northern Ascalon.
Frostmaw (as in frostmaw the kinslayer, ie dungeon boss) can be found in lornar’s pass, labeled “champion frostmaw”

I wouldn’t mind seeing an over lay map of GW and Gw2 maps
The link below was posted by Draxynnic in another thread. I hadn’t seen this map yet. It’s very interesting to see how things match up.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/41360-new-map-old-locations-map/
There is a statue of Pyre in the Plains of Ashford and a statue of Jora in the wayfarer foothills.
ThiBash wrote Yak’s Bend is more or less the same. The old bridge leading out’s still there. Some of the terrain shifted a bit though.
I saw this post in another thread, and I had just explored that area tonight. It’s in Frostgorge Sound. I also felt it had the same general configuraton as the orignal.

While not a direct reference, I was quite alarmed by a very late branch of the Personal Story.
At the end of your level 77 personal story you decide whether you’re going to focus on a land attack, naval attack, or if you will investigate a recon squad that has gone missing. If you choose to investigate the recon squad, you find out that the Risen are nearly in possession of a Searing Cauldron. You secure the Searing Cauldron and actually use it against the Risen. “We have far more control over it than those primitive Charr shaman 250 years ago!” Thankfully they’re right, and it’s not nearly as catastrophic as the searing of Ascalon. I was worried that I was going to be responsible for decimating Orr more than it already has been.
Saw an npc named Bonfaz Burntfur, can’t remember where though.
There’s a woman in Divinity’s reach named "<don’t remember the first name> Malone, in the apple business (pre searing quest).
Event to beat up the ghosts of Duke Barradin and Captain Calhaan (The Great Northern Wall) in Plains of Ashford.
A recording of Oola insults you at a skill point in Metrica if you don’t read the text properly. O_o;
Sorrow’s Embrace is a dungeon full of Dredge… hmm…
In Divinity’s Reach, in the Rurikton, near the house of a minister, i think it was Wi’s… There are the descendants of Alesia, Stefan, Reyna and Orion. They had the same family name (Elek, Baptiste, Sandor and Baruch). Alesia’s descendant is a Guardian and all the others kept their professions. It drew a smile on my face
Of course! How could we have forgotten the Iron Forgeman.
Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to post their finds!!
I don’t remember if I ever saw the surnames of Alesia, Stefan, Reyna and Orion. If I did, I certainly didn’t remember them. That was a great find, and I didn’t recall the Iron Forgeman either.
Also in a previous post EdwinLi wrote about Dagnar Stonepate and the Dragon Blood Sword in “The Sanguinary Blade” – Priory story path only.
I know not many would remember Dagnar’s Sword since it was only briefly mentioned back in GW1 lore
At first I didn’t remember Dagnar Stonepate … but he was the one who appears in the cutscene where Rurik is killed. Stonepate, leader of the Stone Summit, comes riding in on his ice drake, causes the avalanche, and then murders Rurik.
There’s a woman in Divinity’s reach named "<don’t remember the first name> Malone, in the apple business (pre searing quest). from Delsabre
And of course how did I not remember this one … the apple orchard was not far from Fort Ranik and we had to help Mary Malone find her basket among some spiders.
(edited by Rosen Myst.7641)
Of course! How could we have forgotten the Iron Forgeman.
I didnt want to spoil it.
but in sorrows embrace story the final boss is the iron forgeman v2
in sorrows furnace in GW1 he was the final boss.
Iron Marches – Kilnn’s Rest Poi
Scholar Aimee Testibrie – Researching her great grandfather Kilnn’s ghost rumored to be searching for his armor. (The Great Northern Wall – Bonus)
In Divinity’s Reach, you can find NPCs talking about places in GW Factions (totally forgot the names of places, it’s very early in the morning)
Yak’s Bend FO LYFE [AI] [AGI]
minipets will be the death of me
Mad King Thorn was mentioned in some dialogue during a personal story quest with the carnival.
Ranger Nente, Kasha Blackblood, Ralena Stormbringer and Vassar from AC story mode were all trainers from pre-searing Ascalon.
(edited by Rosen Myst.7641)
Lornar’s Pass – Jetsam Isle Poi
Suwash the (Quaggan) pirate – Quaggan tired of being a coward and wants to be a pirate. (Nightfall – Plains of Jarin)
When you go to Eye of the North and your Hall of Monuments in GW2 you will find not only the Historian Kimmes, but Artificer Mullinex, Staci (the rune trader) and Micah Fergson who was the skills trainer. There are also a number of pets to charm notably the black moa and black widow.
Also there are two Xunlai chests that you can interact with; it says the chest is magically sealed….. “Talk to a Xunlai agent to activate your storage account today!” Of course, that’s the message we got before opening the account in GW.
So glad someone mentioned the Hench-Descendants in Rurikton district.
Also, let’s not forget the graves at the ruins of the Granite Citadel, including Reyna’s, Alesia’s (I danced on it!), Little Thom (Nooo!), and a honking big stone for the dwarf… the myth… the legend!… Kilroy Stonekin!!!
Nobody yet mentioned Camp Rankor’s ruins, where the Priory was searching for the Tome of Rubicon, or Aurora’s Remnant, the part of Aurora Glade after the attuned portal (the path with the boss Root Behemoth).
Lornar’s Pass still has Grenth’s statue (back door to the Underworld).
Never seen in the game, but mentioned in War in Kryta quests, the village of Demetra – with Saul D’Alessio’s grave, no less.
There’s the sunken ruins of Droknar’s Forge in Timberline Falls.
I really gotta say, I love Anet’s attention to continuity details.
Found a hologram of Oola and she appears describing/ still bragging how she was the best and brilliant Asuran of all time and lives forever now inside some golem. Do not recall the location when I find it again I will post.

I hadn’t seen this map yet. It’s very interesting to see how things match up.
There’s an updated, post-release version of that map:
Complete with annotations. I have it bookmarked, and I go back to it often. The sheer amount of detail is amazing.
Thanks again to all the great finds people have added as well as the link to the updated map.
I saw another post about Saul D’Lessio; so I’ll add some info that was posted there by Konig Des Todes:
Demetra is where the Bonus Mission Pack mission, The Rise of the Mantle, took place. It is the village that Saul defended and launched his sneak attack from, and became a holy site for the White Mantle.
That is why his tomb is there…. though there’s never been a body
Saul D’Lessio’s tomb is in the Ruins of Holy Demetra… SW corner of Harathi Hinterlands, and there is a renown heart there as well.
(edited by Rosen Myst.7641)
Personally, I like how the Skill Challenge in Fort Koga is to catch an annoying warrior who won’t stop running in circles around the arena… something that many players would do on that map. I know… I did it once.
There’s also DOZENS of ghosts in Ascalon… and there’s even an event that starts with two soldiers running up to a third… and reciting the cutscene from the end of the first mission (Sir! We found Bonfazz Burntfur and the charr army in a valley to the north!). I guess our characters didn’t officially do it.
I found some interesting books in the Durmand Priory library. This is at the Priory headquarters in Lornar Pass in the instanced area of Durmand Priory. Ogden Stonehealer is in this area.
Books:
Master Togo’s Book of Koans 1 – a student learns an important lesson
The Aiden Journal – Aiden explains his dislike of towns and his desire for wilderness
Then there is a book by Wikki (I had a laugh over this name) Official Guide to Tyria where he tells a little about the history dating back 11,000 years. Interestingly … he notes that there are a number of continents on Tyria the planet, but only some have been explored.
In the southwest corner of Frostgorge Sound next to a vista point you will find the remains of a dwarven town. I found two gravestones there which turn out to be Deldrimor dwarves who perished defending Krok’s Hollow from the Stone Summit.
Krok’s Hollow is the village where you met with Jalis Ironhammer during the Borlis Pass mission.
(edited by Rosen Myst.7641)
Yeah, I was kinda sad that when I got there the second gravestone wouldn’t work for me. Has anyone noticed that the dredge seem to have a tendency to name their new mines after Guild Wars 1 dwarven mines? I found Copperhammer Mines in Dredgehaunt, but this is in a location that doesn’t correlate to the Guild Wars 1 outpost. Similarly they also named an underwater mine Iron Horse mine up in Frostgorge Sound.
Also, you can find a norn settlement up in Frostgorge Sound built on top of Yak’s Bend, and the area is called Yakkington’s Toil.
My apologies for reviving this thread, but I stumbled upon this, and I can’t find any information about the sword prior to GW2. Can anyone enlighten me?

Dagnar Stonepate was the previous owner of the Sanguinary Blade.
The sword itself have no mention prior to GW2, but in GW2 you have a reference to GW1.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Thanks for the reply!
I know that much, but the poster made it seem like it was mentioned in GW1’s early days, but he was probably mistaken then.
