Question’s in the title.

I thought all Sylvari were born with one. Caithe’s even drives her to steal the egg from us.

But Canach doesn’t seem to give two kittens about anything. Mercenary turned criminal turned bodyguard… not seeming to really care about anything other than being annoyed at the circumstances he’s found himself in.

Not every Sylvari has one. From https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wyld_Hunt
“Only a small percentage receive a calling to partake in the Wyld Hunt, which is unique to each sylvari. Those that are given a Wyld Hunt are called a Wyld Hunt Valiant.”

I remember back when we were getting lore dumps before and just after launch that this was pointed out by devs. The Hunt is the equivalent of the Arthurian Grail quest, as the sylvari cultural concept is greatly inspired by the Arthurian mythos. There would be a wrong somewhere in Tyria, and a Hunt would come to a likely Valiant who would then go to fix that wrong, generally without any other sylvari around given their very tiny population. So s/he would need to enlist the aid of locals of other races.

Here’s Angel McCoy’s commentary https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2eblaf/angel_mccoy_on_sylvari_wlyd_hunt_and_the_dream/

And check https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Talk:Wyld_Hunt towards the bottom where it mentions the Pale Tree dialogue: “After doing first part of personal story you will talk to the Pale Tree. She says it is rare for a sylvari to get the call to Wyld Hunt while still in the Dream.”

Quite the opposite actually. During the cut scene after the tutorial instance Mender Serimon is very surprised that your character already has a Wyld Hunt, and if you talk to him afterwards he says “A Wyld Hunt is an important purpose given to a very few sylvari by the Dream of Dreams.”

My guess is all sylvari have the potential to recieve a Wyld Hunt, maybe more than one since Caithe’s was originally to kill Zhaitan…unless it’s to kill all the dragons. But not all sylvari will get one.

Canach may not have recieved a Wyld Hunt yet, or it may be that he can’t tell what it is. Various sylvari have described it as more of a feeling than a conscious thought – I think one described it as like a constant buzzing in her mind. I imagine they feel restless and uncomfortable when they’re not working towards it and happier and more relaxed when they are.

But it can be very vague. There’s an event in Brisban Wildlands where you have to protect a group of sylvari whose Wyld Hunts have lead them to the area and now they’re trying to find out why they’re there.

Similarly if I remember correctly Trahearne said originally he just felt compelled to leave the Grove, then to travel to Orr and learn about it and it was only once he got there and started studying the land that he understood he was supposed to heal it.

I disagree that Canach doesn’t care about anything. He seems extremely wary of attachments of any kind and suspicious of how everyone else will see him, but he has shown himself to be extremely passionate about certain causes – such as getting back at the Consortium for their mistreatment of refugees and killing Mordremoth. It may be that these things tie into his Wyld Hunt and he just doesn’t know what the final goal is.

I think the Wyld Hunt will end with Mordremoth’s death, would it not? Wasn’t that what was causing them to have those callings, etc in the first place? I’m pretty sure at the end, Sylvari mention it being silent in their heads for the first time since they were born or whatever. And Caithe explaining herself in the new chapter?

Spoiler Alert! for Living World 2 and Heart of Thorns.

This wasn’t “the stealing”. She took the Egg because she wanted repair her past.

She told “this Egg could be the key to defeating the dragons” in the trailer.
And in the epizode “the Mystery Cave” she said “the Egg must be protected”

I was surprised because the Pale Tree was surprised when she knew about that Caithe took the Egg. If her Wyld Hunt was the Egg the Pale Tree shouldn’t be surprised.

As we know her Dream showed that she will fight against Zhaitan.
Trahearne dreamed about that he will clear Orr.
Wynne dreamed about that Sylvari are the part of the Jungle Dragon.

Canach is a member of the Shining Blade.
I think that in the last epizode of HoT is an answer.
He had bad future but he met Faolain and Caithe first and Anise after and he. became a member of Shining Blade as I said.
In the “Hearts and Minds” he had to fight against his weaknesses and he didi it.

I noticed that first Sylvari have more important mission than 2nd or 3rd.
Caithe (the fight against Zhaitan, the Egg), Trahearne (the clearing of Orr), Faolain (Nightmare Court’s chef), Wynne (she knew about the secret of Sylvari), Riannoc (the 1st wielder of Caladborg, he had to kill corrupted champion).

And the Secondborn:
Caera (Scarlet), Laranthir (Commander of Vigil), Canach (the partner of Anise and the cynical member of Dragon’s Watch )
They are not important, they are only elements. We should focus on Firstborn because they hide some secrets. We knew about 10 Firstborn.

Canach hasn’t the Wyld Hunt.
But this doesn’t mean he isn’t important.
