Where does it say you have to ignore the rest of the game? Where does it say you have to get a new item as soon as it comes out? Do what you find fun in game. No one is forcing you to rush in order to get an item.
Higher difficulty = Higher reward btw.
This new dungeon seems to be anet’s outlet for new content. They can just tack on new fractals and gear whenever they get around to actually designing it. I fear the rest of the game may stagnate further.

This game was never about increasing gear stats. Making a game behave like other MMOs (who have all failed) when it was never designed to act like that is a recipe for disaster. Wait till you see what the MF recipes to make this awesome new gear requires! fingers crossed for 250 Obby Shards and ectos

I’m actully kinda glad if they take so long, until they are available outside of the dungeon i recon they should take quite a lot of time inside the dungeon (they should be faster than what you said though due to the leveling system).

Remember, Anet said these are supposed to be between exotic and legendary items. As such, consider how long it takes to get a single exotic dungeon item (from a standard dungeon) and how long it takes to get a legendary (100% world, mats etc) – now put the FOTM items inbetween those 2 timeframes and it doesn’t actully seem all that unfair (more so when anyone who doesn’t like dungeons have no other way to get them).

I’m pretty sure the new dungeon was designed for people who kept complaining that there is no end game and endless gear grind was essential for the game to survive.
Now they’ve got it, but because the Ascended armor is only needed for that one dungeon the rest of us can ignore it.
(For the record I haven’t tried the dungeon yet, I’m much more interested in the savenger hunt type thing, but since it was added to appease people demanding endless grind it wouldn’t suriprise me at all if that’s what it is.)

I think you can bring ascended gear outside the dungeon into WvW and PvE. And it is actually quite a bit better than exotics. So now we have a situation where the .1% of players who have enough time to grind this crap will have a power or farming (in the case of MF) advantage over everyone else.
On the other hand if you can’t bring it out, then it’s just plain useless.

The numbers you posting are only speculation. Dungeons tend to become easier the longer they are out. And besides whats the point of making new content if it can be done soon after it comes out. This is MMO, where progression over time is needed.

I think you can bring it out, but I’m not convinced the stats are different enough to make it required.
You don’t currently need a full set of exotics on a level 80 character to do WvW do you?

Somebody in map chat told me that got 20 + 9 from bags for the second run. So it is still horrendous. And above that agony will probably kick your kitten so until you actually GET an ascended item you’ll be stuck on the lower diffs.

The amount of tokens you receive increase with each scale so keep going!
Yes, but if its only an increase of 5 per run it’s still insanity. Not to mention you have to have uninterrupted access to the game for hours on end in order to get up high enough to make more than jack-squat.

I wasn’t able to finish my first run, we were booted right before the end. Right now too turned off to even load the game.
I agree with your initial post. I feel like a hamster on wheel with this game. Constantly grinding and grinding to keep up. It’s bad enough keeping up with an economy being drive by bots and 3rd party gold. I don’t need Anet increasing this by designing items so prohibitively expensive. How many hours a day do they think we have to play???? Not to mention doing the same thing over and over isn’t really…. what’s the word…. oh yeah!… FUN!

Easier as in people get better geared, figure out how to beat bosses and come up with better strats in order to beat the dungeon
The point of the dungeon—from what I understood—is to challenge groups of players to go as far as they can in a single run. If we get 5 more per each level that we go up, then I don’t see the problem here. This dungeon is intended to be an actual challenge, and I believe is primarily there to ease the pain of players which have already absorbed a large portion of the game’s content.

High Five. That’s the Spirit: Don’t like something in the game, go do something else you like. Why do most people not get this? This game is about giving players choice as to what they want to do.

I just hope that over time they will add more ways to gain equal level gear (WvW, Crafting, PvP, solo options, etc.) so the people who asked for dungeon based end game can do them, and the rest of us can do something else.
Otherwise ANet is failing a good number of players by catering to the specific set of hardcore raiders, like every other MMO on the market.

They already said they would. But don’t expects crafting, events or WvW routes to be any faster than farming the dungeon.
As far as I read the dev post, the game will save your level so you don’t need do to this in one run. So just increase the level whenever you feel like it and come back later to continue on a higher level.

You’re raging prematurely and ignorantly. Firstly, you haven’t done all levels of the Fractals to know how it scales, and secondly, why do you need “uninterrupted access to the game for hours”? The game will remember your progress so you can leave and come back to do a fractal of the same level (as long as everyone else is at or higher than that level)
Wait so the game remembers what run you are on? I thought it didn’t. Since my group left after the first run and I exited the dungeon, can I now go back and do the second run or will it restart at difficulty 1?

I’m finding it funny and ironic that the acronym for it is “FOTM” which also stands for “flavor of the month”..

No it doesn’t. Your highest difficulty reached is saved to your character and when you next enter you can choose from any of the difficulties up to that one (as long as everyone else in your party also have access to it).
I tried few rounds and it was really fun.
Do you know what does “grinding” means in the first place?
Grinding = Repetitive same place 1000×. This dungeon is not.
It gives a random map each time from the set of the many. It’s a very good content.

Still could end up a ridiculous grind, but I’ll reserve judgement for at least the time being.

I agree with the last line false information, currently on phase 4, and got already big big drops out of it and my party too. Really good design on instances too, loving to see how it gets harder and more rewarding.
Yeah as it goes up the reward increases so it’s not really that much of a grind. I really enjoy this new dungeon so far…
