About Dougal Keane
I’d actually like that, maybe not something in the main story but as a sideline event or something at least. I was surprised recently (during my 2nd character run) that they used his Sylvari companion’s grave as a skill challenge and the Norn was there.
He’d be a great NPC for events in Dry Top!

i have been seriously craving another novel from the gw2 writers. hell even from outside writers. my first thought for another book would be to put dougal in it. it would be awesome to read about him trying to heard cats through tyrias trap laden, monster infested recesses once again. though having him step up as a fully voice acted secondary character would be cool too. either way i want more story in game and in print.
maybe if/when almorra gets involved, she might find need of a specialist with his skills. the lionguard licking their wounds. who will accompany us through the story dungeons? which force will the majority of this seasons secondary characters hail from? the seraph? maybe the first one or two. but i suspect as the pact gets more involved we will get more interaction with gixx, riel, and almorra and of course their subordinates. wonder what demmi beetlestone has been up to?…
I agree. I wasn’t a huge fan of some of the characters in the books, but Dougal Keane was one of the better heroes. Be really good to see him involved, even in a minor way.
These are the kinds of NPC characters that are well positioned to strengthen the story (partly because they already exist). Ember Doomforge is well positioned if they ever decide to progress the charr/human treaty story (she’s even better positioned due to her familial relationship to the leader of the Vigil). Throw in Jhavi Jorasdottir (don’t give her a huge role, not every GW1 relation should be prominent in GW2) and give her something to do. Small and large throwbacks to existing characters from GW1 or the books, people who we already like and don’t seem to be doing much atm.
I was a little disappointed to see how unimportant Dougal seems to be in GW2.
Not gonna be a popular idea but WTH right? I get you, I really do, but characters that we can interact with are just so god kitten lame… I mean I don’t think it’s anything Anet has done wrong I just think that’s how it is for me and some other people. Reading about DE made the characters seem epic, but interacting with them in-game feels kind of, underwhelming? Distant characters are way more interesting, that’s why Scarlet has suddenly become a better character because A) We’re getting a little back story and B) She’s distant, we can’t see her, more mystery. If anything I would like if we followed a trail left by Dougal that led us somewhere, but probably a better idea for BL Homelands than Maguuma. One more example, Majory. Supercool in season 1 when we first started to meet her, kind of lame now in season 2.
I liked the books and would buy any new ones.
I agree that the characters that are still alive would make wonderful “active” NPCs. I think they should all interact more – Destiny’s Edge members have made “guest” appearances in the living story, but the Ghosts of Ascalon NPCs are not entangled in the personal stories or dungeon cutscenes and thus are completely free to be used in the living world. Many +1.
It might even make some more players pick up the books.

+1 to OP, Dougal would be a perfect addition to this LS…especially if we are going to Ascalon and dealing with Char…
He is quite the underused character, such a shame.
Hey guys, with the new trailer this would be the perfect time to reintroduce him
One of the things from the book I wouldn’t mind seeing is the catacombs under Divinity’s Reach. I could be wrong (and usually am), but I don’t think we can see the crypts from the start of the book.
As for the NPCs, I agree that seeing them come back would be interesting. Or perhaps giving them some slightly more engaging dialogue than they have. It’s been a while since I was at the negotiation hub, but as I recall, they were just standing around doing almost nothing, even though they were the key players to starting the talks.
Would be cool if it was not only Dougal that was added but Ember and Gullik as well. Also since we have no idea if Kranxx is really dead maybe he could make a comeback too.
I just finished the books and really enjoyed them. Hubby is reading them now. They are great background for the overall story.
I do think Dougal will play into the later episode(s). He is one of the very few with actual experience and fairly extensive knowledge of the Ascalon ghosts. He most likely knows something useful to the team. Who knows, maybe Destiny’s Edge will reform as well, though I think it would take Queen Jenna releasing Logan from his vow of loyalty or her death before that would really happen.
Do we really need more exceedingly (and negatively) archetyped characters into the fray? Because that’s exactly what Dougal would provide, and honestly, we’ve enough on the Living Story plates as it is.
