Canach - new design?
I was curious about that too: I don’t know if it’s meant to imply a “fall to Nightmare” or just look rattier because he’s been living in refuge on the island for months. There’s some suggestion that Nightmare can twist their actual physical form, but if it’s the latter: does that mean Sylvari in general have the ability to cause/experience drastic changes in appearance (Facial structure, hair texture, skin color, not just superficial changes like, idk, growing an extra flower or the clothes that come off their skin), or was this just a design oversight/ret-con over what he looked like before?

Sylvari can grow and shed their plant armor, for all we know they might be able to shed and regrow their hair, change their color and even shape/appearance simply because they are sylvari. Would be good to know if they could do that and what happened to Canach’s design.

That makes sense. Maybe Canach just didn’t want to be recognized. I mean, he should be in jail, right? It would make sense that a fugitive that has the ability to change his appearance would do exactly that.

IF sylvari actually have that ability, which we still don’t know for sure yet. Maybe his old look was a placeholder or not finalized. Or maybe sylvari do have some interesting abilities up their leaves – shot for awful pun -
I wonder why he is wearing gloves from Molten Facility?

But he looked so much better with the old design!!
A secondborn sylvari (which means he is important for the sylvari) with a new design just to make him not that "harmless" looking like he looked before? I thought it was fitting perfectly that he looks not that evil. And I really like his story and like him (and missed him the last months - yes, he may be not the nicest sylvari, but who cares^^). Thats why I want a miniature of him and started a thread because of that. But would be nicer to have the old version!
I want my old Canach back! *cry*
And change the appearance to escape? Hm... Don’t know if sylvari can do that... but then a not-so-evil-looking-look would have been better and less notable. Besides... his weapons are still the same like in the past.
My bet? Mordremoth’s (the suspected jungle/plant Elder Dragon) corruption is finally kicking in. I speculate that during his exile, he met the Personal Nemesis from whom he received the Molten Gauntlets and a large dosage of the wildlife-aggravating toxins – which was likely to have been created by plants corrupted by Mordremoth. During the spreading of the toxins, he inhaled lots of the stuff, and the corruption started to manifest in his body. (Current hypotheses state that Mordremoth can only corrupt flora in the “natural” Elder Dragon way, while fauna exposed to Mordy’s toxins/pollens become incresingly mad, or are actually killed off if encountering a too large of a concentration.)
But yeah, Canach definitely looks “sick” compared to his former shining knight self, and I doubt sylvari can undergo such violent changes unless they come across something unnatural.

That’s a rather interesting theory there :O It could be very possible too, since Sylvari aren’t affected by the other elder dragon’s corruption. So maybe Mordremoth’s corruption does affect Sylvari due to it’s plant based magic (as long as he is indeed the plant/poison themed ED), but then again he just looks more mean rather than something actually twisted. Seeing what icebrood and branded creatures look like, I think he should look even more sick/twisted if we are talking about an ED corruption. Though maybe he’s in an early state, who knows? It’s certainly an interesting idea though.
What if that’s just a player character, hence the MF gauntlets. Yes, its a screenshot of the next stage which is hunting down canach, but that doesn’t mean its a screenshot of him. Not saying at all that I’m for sure right, but I’ll LOL if when we see him we realized how much we assumed and went wild with theories.
The banner for Last Stand at Southsun also depict the very same sylvari, although in concept art form, and since most of the content will be about putting down Canach for good, so…

This and the fact that the sylvari on the screenshot has Canachs sword and shield in his hands leads me to the conclusion that it’s Canach on the screenshot.
But I hope they will change this and give him his old appearance back.
