Hey peeps,

The new trailer for the last episode just launched on Youtube!

Spoiler!
Did I just see Turai Ossa in the Durmand Priory? I have no idea why that ghost reminds me of him.
Discuss the spoiler tag maybe?

Not a whole lot of new stuff, there is one shot that looks like a mordrem version of the lane defense that we saw during the marionette but I don’t see that happen… Not a whole lot to see tbh, I find it hard to get super pumped when I see a dragon in a trailer when its just roaring and not really doing stuff….

yea 90% is just re-used footage sadly. But 2-3 shots were a bit interesting, though i expect much more and better for a final trailer…

Maybe not re-used footage, but we have at least already seen 90% of the trailer in-game.

I do think it’s very possible, if you look closely to the detail on the armor and seeing that we had some crystal desert lore in season 2 + a door with a symbol that could represent the forgotten. Well who knows

To be fair people have been speculating about a marionette style boss in SW since the map was released and we could see the three lanes. So I wouldn’t really say it is impossible or even unlikely that something like that might happen.

I heard about the speculation but I find it a weird time to put it in the game now when people have been requesting it for a long time. Don’t get me wrong imo the marrionette would be a perfect example of a ’’harder’’ worldboss that requires people to split up and not just to zerk stuff down by standing at some dragons feet or that takes ages because you need to blow up an ice wall with +30 pact zookas.

Nothing was “hard” about the marionette fight… I don’t think anyone ever failed the lane part… the hard part was you had to rely on noobs in blues and greens to do the platforms and they died 90% of the time.

That or half the platform getting killed because their loading screen ran long.

Anyway… It seems we will probably be facing the Shadow of the Dragon (again) as the final boss of an episode, and the Flower seems more in line with a (hopefully permanent) world boss. I wonder how they are going to work around the Breaches.

A fearful Wynne seems to be clutching onto Caithe too. Most likely explaining the secret she was keeping, and I hope giving Caithe a “You’re girlfriend’s insane” talk.

Just saw the trailer. Not as hype-inducing as opposed to the previous trailers, that’s for sure and it felt very redundant as we had a trailer recapping what transpired so far. I don’t think another one was needed. With that being said, with the appearance of the Shadow of the Dragon since Dragon’s Reach, it did make me a little excited as I assume we will be facing him again. My concern is, will he pop as a new world boss or as an instanced boss? I really prefer him to be a world boss.

Last episode? Oh fizzlesticks… No way such a wide story with still so much untold stuff can wrap up in one episode. Big one or not. It would have to be almost the size of 5 episodes (the bigger ones, all combined) in one episode, to suffice for a ‘finishing season 2’ chapter. So i’m really very pessimistic about the outcome…

its like a story , they will never give away the juciy stuff in a straw and people have been connecting the dots , considering the cyrstal you see 45secs in is made of jade and the only place where jade forms is when shiro died , so that chunk of jade is like 600-700 years old and is most likely a part of ancient dragon, Kuunavang i’d guess since jade was only formed in cantha.

so i’d say there is some lore on cantha linked to this up comming episode.
as Kuunavang is ether dead or alive (no one knows if he survive the test of time) but we know he is a friendly dragon.

In first place let’s see the runes on the portal, they are the same of the Ascension glyphs: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Languages_of_Tyria

Probably when Aerin asked to the Master of Peace a way to gain a great power it could be the ascension. Probably Wynne found that place to gain a great power, but as we know ascension isn’t for all, Turai Ossa is an example.

That ghost could be Turai Ossa, he was a guide during the ascension, probably the Durmand Priory had a way to call him. It make sense sice Marjory went back to her contact in the Durmand Priory to analize the simbols we found.

Personaly I have another theory: he is Prince Rurik. He was the previous owner of Sohothin, probably he found Rytlock and they made an agreement, but they need help and Rytlock can’t return in our world so he comes. But this theory has not a solid base, because: why does Rurik appear to the Durmand Priory?

During the video we can also see a few frames about the pact base, one with those giant roots and thay are taking some artillery fire. And a base with no giant roots around, and airship starting to fly. Probably othen than capture and defense the fortresses, we must retake the territory conquered by those roots. In small frames (0.15) we can see a path to the “flower” and no root around (they started to grow right there). We can also see mortar, fire (probably as the fortresses for airship support), and a pile of supply, or could be weapons to use again’st the mordrem or to open a passage.

Lane fighting pretty much confirmed, with the giant flower we saw already at Caithe’s Reconnaissance Squad as the end boss. Probably bigger and badder versions of the Mordrem as mini-bosses for each lane.

Looks like Camp Resolve will also be subject to attacks in this update. Could be similar as the existing fort fights, but with grander scale.

The fact that we have Wynne’s Locket makes me think she dies in this episode, possibly by Faolain’s hand which finally makes Caithe see Faolain’s a bad girl and dump her.

I disagree entirely. You don’t take heavy spoilers like the ascension glyphs along with a ghost that looks exactly like Turai Ossa, throw them together and don’t make the ghost be the Ghostly Hero. It just doesn’t work like that. Rather, he’ll probably be our character’s guide to ascension as well.

I do wonder though if Caithe’s not ascended, which might have something to do with the egg. Since this was before DE took the fight to Kralkatorrak and Glint’s not dead, it could possibly mean that Caithe’s an ascendant as well and Glint told her something that can’t be shared with anyone who’s not ascended, including the Pale Tree. It would make sense then why Caithe seems like such an outsider, no place with Faolain and no place with her Mother.

Caithe being Ascended – or even being capable of it – would be a really big deal. Ascension is a process connected to the gods, and being Chosen is, as far as we know, a trait that only humans can have. For a sylvari to Ascend would raise a lot of interesting questions.

That or half the platform getting killed because their loading screen ran long.

Let’s hope if they do do something similar, they learned the lesson and will take mercy on people with slower (but still above required spec) machines and not require teleports into unsafe zones that are distant enough to require a load screen.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.

Could you tell us GW1 lore ignorants what this ascension stuff is about?

Ascension is basically communing with The Old Gods. So far it’s only been attributably accomplished by Margonites (who were servants of Abaddon) and our player character in GW1.

Caithe being Ascended – or even being capable of it – would be a really big deal. Ascension is a process connected to the gods, and being Chosen is, as far as we know, a trait that only humans can have. For a sylvari to Ascend would raise a lot of interesting questions.

Why would she not be capable of it? There are only three separate instances of Ascension mentioned in lore: Margonites were all basically servants of Abaddon, and their ascension is likely a direct result of their direct communication with a god. Turai Ossa and his people basically waged war on the Forgotten, split up out of greed and mistrust, etc. and never accomplished it (although they sought it). The only other example is our Guild Wars 1 hero, who would’ve never gone through these steps had it not been for Khilbron and Turai Ossa’s ghost. That’s basically three separate notations of Ascension and only one success after the exodus of the Gods.

We don’t have any information to suggest it wouldn’t be possible for other sentient races, and since the gods were very definitely real (although they aren’t Gods – as we once thought of them), I see no reason why Caithe couldn’t manage. As far as Chosen and such go, this is in a 5 year historical timeframe of knowledge…From 1067 to 1072 and this is limited knowledge within a limited timeframe due to all of this occurring within the White Mantle and Kryta which was inhabited by humans and beasts.

There’s no solid evidence to suggest that it couldn’t happen. Although whether or not it’s true is a stretched theory, I’ll admit.

You forget all Canthan emperors are ascended as well after Chang Hai, the first ascendant emperor of Cantha.

Weh No Su is just conceptually the equivalent of Ascension, no evidence to suggest lore-wise they’re the same. The game drives to make the effects the same, but to that effect of lore-breaking; Elonian characters achieve “Ascension” without actually doing anything, it just comes along at a certain point in their story. Secondly, your character can see Mursaat (who are supposed to be disguising themselves) before you’re Ascended.

I see no reason why the practical in-game equivalence (basically changing your secondary profession and travelling through the Mists -aka UW and FoW) means we have to accept that they have the same functions in lore. It’s an MMO, after all, and they tried very hard to make the game be somewhat balanced even if you only had one or two of the campaigns.

It’s the same functional reason we don’t attribute millions of examples of Ascension just because there were millions of player characters. There’s a line between function and lore and sometimes lore is casually smoothed over to serve specific functions.

Mechanics does not ever = lore. you are now confusing mechanics with lore. We might need Koing here to really set this straight as this will just get into a forum war with people here again.

Yet I quote from the factions manuscripts book that comes with factions:

“Chang Hai, a prince who followed the path of the hero and became Ascendant before taking the throne.”

There is only one path of the hero and that is the crystal desert with Turai Ossa.

Weh No Su is an alternative because the celestial creatures are, in effect, intermediaries for the gods, in turn, guided by the envoys and oracles of the mists. Which is what the ascension right does as well in prophesies with the forgotten being stewards of the gods. They all, in effect, guide us into ascension.

The gods then look down upon you and bless you with ascension or Weh No Su. It takes a great challenge to over come to become ascendant in its many names.

Nightfall I can’t really speak for, I guess fleeing for your life against an enemy of the 5 gods itself + the Kournan military is considered a big enough challenge and making a new base with all odds against you smack dab in the middle of Kourna is enough to make the gods deem you “ascendant”.

Originally even Elonians under went the path of the hero as all of Ossan descent do including our very own villainess, Varesh Ossa.

“Ascension” in Prophecies and Factions(counting Weh No Su as a legit alternative) served both the lore and gameplay function of those two campaigns well. But if the lore for it wasn’t there, then ANet would have had to have called the mechanics of it(switching 2ndary class, access to Mists) something else entirely.

Whether or not it was written as a way to explain the mechanic or not is kind of irrelevant at this point…ANet completely ignored the idea of needing Ascension(the lore) to do Ascended stuff(the mechanics) with Nightfall.

Seems rather silly to debate the issue when ANet itself simply uses the term as common nomenclature for its top-tier gear in this game. Why care if they don’t?

The gods then look down upon you and bless you with ascension or Weh No Su.

Originally even Elonians under went the path of the hero as all of Ossan descent do including our very own villainess, Varesh Ossa.

I don’t see why we need Konig here. People have certainly read information about Tyrian lore, he’s not that special.

He became Weh No Su, which is just the Canthan (and mechanical) equivalent of an Ascended. Lore-wise, they are still obscure enough to have differences since nothing is really mentioned about them and their mechanics are only equals for the sake of balance.

Path of the hero means to learn a profession, not the trials of Ascension. He was a Wammo, this doesn’t mean he went to the Crystal Desert and Ascended.

Where is the source of celestials having anything to do with the Gods? There’s not a single mention of it in Factions.

On the contrary, Ascension is correlated with the Old Gods while Weh No Su is correlated with the celestials. While they both have similar functions and mechanics regarding the Mists for the sake of balance in the game, there’s still no indicator of whether or not they are the same for any reason other than the sake of mechanical balance.

It is never said that there is an Elonian tradition to Ascend. Even Varesh Ossa never Ascended by traditional means, she just became a Margonite.
