It’s easy. You must go to the North pole, there will be a huge crater there. Get inside the crater. Then Sephirot will appear and…

Wait… Ah!!! Aeri n !!

Nevermind.

Pretty sure the fight is bugged. I’m looking at my char trying to kill Aerin. Fight’s been going on for 20 minutes at least. His shield is at half strength and now he just sits there, invulnerable. The shield isn’t dropping and he has stopped attacking.

Agreeing with Mashedpotato. First time I tried it, after an hour & dying 4 times, looked here for advice. The second time I tried, once Aerin started popping that shield it took 5 crystals, and once he was down to about 10-15% HP it took 8 crystals to break the shield. The preliminary fight using the crystals was similar. Unless I was using them wrong. Do you press 2 run into his field and 2 again until you run out of charge time?

You got to use the sun crystals to break the shield. 1 direct hit from the barrel roll will break the shield.

He will always use the Shield on the center platform and there is always enough room on the platform to position yourself properly to directly hit him with the Barrel Roll.

Just got to remember the saying “DO A BARREL ROLL!” when he put up the shield.

This is what happened to me, which was why I thought the fight was bugged. Barrel-rolling does work, but it makes the fight that much more tedious. Just keep your cool, and settle in for a long fight. Especially disappointing is the lousy rewards, a chest full of gear, none of which my character could use.

Smashing into his shield with this sun crystal is a hit or miss deal that can be caused by your aim being off or latency. Beyond that, the fight is actually very easy if you stay at range. I went through the whole story on my Engi and for this fight just tossed grenades at him. Was kinda fun having a grenade duel.

Walkthrough:

When the fight starts ignore all tendrils/mobs on the ground floor. Run up a ramp on the far side of the room and jump across to Aerin on the center platform. Hit him with melee until he jumps away, then dodge bombs while he is on another platform (if you are motivated, use your ranged weapon to hit him from afar while you avoid bombs). Once he jumps back to center again melee him. At intervals (75%, 50% and 25% HP) he will put up a shield which you will break by simply grabbing a Sun Crystal (the yellow one) and use the 2 skill directly at his shield. The shield will break and you continue to do damage until he’s dead.

Rinse and repeat all steps above each time he either 1) jumps to a different platform and 2) sheilds up.

To call this the hardest boss fight to date is very extreme… You don’t even have to compete with ridiculous adds.. If you really want to see the hardest boss fight try doing Arah P4 Priestess of Dwayna fight. Finding the path: You don’t need crystals. At all. Find the ramp and walk up it. >.> The shield: He’s not moving. At all. Pick up a sun crystal, aim yourself at him, press 2, barrel into him, and the shield collapses. It only takes one. One.

This is when I start to understand threads that start with ‘Is it just me?’ and 1/10. The new mechanics are actually great.

Sure, ArenaNet needs to do some tuning, the lag needs a fixing, and some of the voice actors need to be trapped in a room with Jon St. John for coaching. Otherwise the zone is amazing, even beautiful on max settings, and the group play is a ton of fun.

By far way better than the mindless mob zerging of Season 1 that set a lot of y’all up for sub-par performance here. Step it up.

I thought the mechanics could be figured out eventually, after wasting a while killing the constantly spawning mobs the player has to guess that they need to take on the sylvari alone, then this fight quickly becomes incredibly tedious and boring.

Mobs that spam knockdowns are not ‘challenging’ they are annoying. Mobs that spam knockbacks to throw you off platforms so you get to waste time running back up them are even more annoying.

As others have said, use ranged attacks – if you are melee, I can’t imagine you can actually finishing this in a sane amount of time.

This fight needed the NPC to have 1/2 of his HP and half of the knockdowns/backs from him and the environment. The novelty wears off too quickly and the fight should have been made MUCH shorter.

Also the randomly spawning crystals actually get in the way of the fight, you may be trying to dodge and suddenly you lose all of you abilities. Yay, real fun.

How is that that ArenaNet manages to make their sylvari villains so badly designed in either their story or their fight mechanics? There are legitimate reasons why Trahearne and Scarlet are so disliked as characters, and this fight belongs right alongside Canach for boss fights that drained away any sense of entertainment while playing. It’s getting to the point where I never see another sylvari villain again.

I really want this next Living Story to be good, but so far the tedious ‘challenge’ of the fights I’ve seen (not just this one but the others in general) is making me less interested the further I go into it.

Keep the story fights short and to the point ArenaNet. You can make them longer for people who want to replay them for the achievements.

Aerin will jump to the other platforms and as his HP goes down he will put up the shield again and you’ll have to take it down again.

Each time he will ebgin to jump the platforms more frequently and start having more atatcks.

Best thing to do is to fight him on the platforms. us eht Crystal powers to get on to the platforms and fight him.

Why is there no Walk Through on how to defeat this Aerin, I am getting sick and tired of fighting these vines and dying all the time. Why is there no walk through on this?

I did this fight last night (with a friend who brought zero utility). Ran up the ramp, ignoring the tendrils. Got knocked off a ton but that was to be expected, since it was my first time and didn’t know the fight well. The only time you need to use crystals are when he pops his shield. Other than that, just burst him down as usual.

My recommendations:

Bring reflects (for grenades)
Bring retaliation (for everything)
Bring endurance regen (for more bomb dodging)
Bring swiftness (for quicker runs back up the ramp)

Oh gawd, so much everything above.

Enemies in this game rely WAY too much on CC skills and get them far too frequently, with minimal cooldowns. Blind on a 3-second cooldown? I’m wishing I could play dust motes as a race, if I could get that kind of awesome.

And enough with the Sylvari focus. :\ We don’t like Treehearne, Scarlet, Canach, or Aerin. They have plot holes big enough to drive an Iron Legion war machine through, and their personalities, if existent, are irritating. So it begs the question, are the elf-substitutes writer fangasms, or is there some long-range sinister plan, as curious speculation suggests?

Ok, I will concede 2 above points:

- too many knockbacks for the sake of knockback. They did little damage, couldn’t be avoided with stability, and were mostly there to grief you into running up the ramp again

- the aspect crystals suddenly appearing nearby, making your actual skills disappear without warning. Can say I definitely tried to do something guardian-like and instead found myself careening off the plateau.

The Pale Tree is actually a terrorist cell and pumping out bad Sylvari left and right. The new enemy becomes the Pale Tree and all Sylvari (including player characters) are put into prison camps until the issue is resolved in Season 3 Living Story.

That aside, I agree that Sylvari enemies are getting a little old/bland.

Took me awhile to find him and the ramp up, but yea no jumping required for the final battle….

Plenty of Secondary platforms to Range him from as well. You do need to avoid his mines/bombs, but you don’t really even need to dodge (just don’t use “lock” skills unless he has just used his explosives).

You WILL get into trouble if you try to battle him from below (too many other foes). There is an easy ramp up to the main platform next to the narrow bridge section below the main entrance. I found that trying to secure and use the random Wind Aspects to get to the upper level is not worth the effort (find and use the ramp).

Soloing him is NOT recommended (can certainly be done, but will require some finesse and very good movement skill).

I actually like the Sylvari. Their mythology is the subject of speculation and wild theories. They’re young, yet incredibly curious, which makes for some great personalities: innocent, easily corrupted, eager, spacey, eccentric, flighty, noble, introspective…

The Nightmare Court is a wonderful dichotomy to the standard sylvari, and we’ve got Malykk, who could open even more doors into their mythology. And let’s not forget about dragon minion speculation. Their lack of deep history makes for some very interesting potential.

Where I think the problem lies is not with Sylvari themselves, but rather with the specific characters that have been in the spotlight, and how they are/were presented.

Yeah, just go up the ramp and fight him on the platform at the top of it. Don’t try and follow him, just wait for him to come back.

I must disagree about soloing him though. I consider myself to be a mediocre player. I’ll shamefully even admit to sometimes being a skill clicker. But I was able to solo Aerin on my mesmer, ranger, thief, and warrior so far. On my warrior, using a rifle, I was even able to get the Explosive Avoidance achievement for not being hit with any of his bombs. Getting the No Shocks Here and A Shocking Development achievements were more of a challenge for me than Aerin. Of course the difficulty varies with different classes, but some of that may just be familiarity. I expected doing it with my ranger to be much easier than thief and mesmer, but I struggled more with the ranger than any of the others. Maybe this was because I usually melee with ranger and decided to equip bow and range Aerin. I used sword/pistol with thief and greatsword with mesmer. Next up are my guardian and necro.

Speaking of which, kudos to ANet for this chapter of the Living Story being quite alt friendly. They get criticized for being alt-unfriendly so they deserve some credit for the opposite here. The drops seem pretty decent too. I have gotten several lodestones in Dry Top and lots of T5 and T6 materials.

I spent all of maybe 15 seconds on the vines before I realized “Hey, I’m probably just meant to be fighting the sylvari.” My necro had little trouble. I already had on axe/focus and staff, so I started out with my more melee set and just switched to staff when he’d jump to the other platforms. As for the bombs, I just moved out of the way or dodged; on the few occasions I dodged off, I just found my way back up and went back to fighting. The sun crystal/shield thing is shown in the fight before the last one, so that was easy to figure out. Outside of the BOB spam (which definitely gets old fast), I don’t see what the big issue is here. I’m definitely not the best player, yet I managed just fine solo.

I also went back and did it on my ranger (whom I do not play often at all) and my warrior and had no problems there.

There is a ramp on the right side that lets you walk right up to Aerin. Just go up there and melee him, dodge or walk out of the bombs, and then range him when he jumps to another platform. When he ups his shield just pick up a sun aspect and ram into him.

Seriously, it is not hard at all. I don’t get you people.

What I just found very confusing/annoying about this fight was the fact that you have all your companions who even warn you before the fight to protect the Master of Peace and take down Aerin as fast as possible, but once the fight starts they just kill pointless worms. They are doing no help for the actual fight, which is the main reason why it drags out so long. I mean after the first time playing it you know it’s basically gonna be a 1vs1 boss fight and you can skill accordingly, but on my first try I expected my companions to help out, like in any other mission. So I went damage/support. I agree it isn’t the hardest fight, I just didnt expect it to turn into a 1vs1 thing.

Agreed. It could be just you and Aerin—no worm adds, no companions—and it’s basically the same fight. I guess Braham is just eye candy.

This is one of the easiests solo fights you can get, especially compared to Liadri from the last patch. For eles just walk on the ramp, get your staff out and spam fire 1, or 2 and 5 if he gets closer. I’m assuming every prof has some kind of ranged weapon so this should be trivial. And just dodge/move away from bombs and the poison AoEs that the vines below throw at you. There is no time limit so just peel him off.

I killed Aerin with the laziest and cheapest (no food) way possible – range & run, while manage to snag Explosive Avoidance achievement.

Prior to 3rd/final fight, instead of taking Kas’s portal, just jump down the ledge to the ramp right below while Aerin is having a chit-chat with Master of Peace. Range attack Aerin throughout the fight, while you may find yourself alternating just between the ramp you stand on at the beginning of the fight and the central ramp for your attack to be in range, there is no need to jump to other ramp/platform to fight Aerin.

When you find yourself out of endurance to dodge Aerin’s AOE or somewhat low in health, just jump down to the ground and head south to a small ledge by the cavern’s wall to stay out of Aerin’s aggro. Most of the time the area at the south is tentacle free and out of Aerin’s range, so you have about 90 sec (to qualify for Explosive Avoidance) for your HP to recover and make your way to the starting ramp to continue the attack. The only crystal you will need to pick up is Sun Crystal, which is when Aerin stops attacking and put up a shield at the central ramp.

Continue the range attack – dodge AOE – small break at southern ledge – range attack cycle and you will end that Aerin with not much trouble. My cond dmg necro took abt 20 mins using this method, while my zerker thief took abt 10 mins.

The thief who did dat – Crystal Desert

Have done this fight with a necro, engineer and an elementalist. Here are a few things that helped me:

As everyone has noted, use the ramp to get up on the platforms. When you find it for the first time, check its location on the mini-map so when you get knocked off the platform you don’t waste time trying to find it again, especially if you’re like me and get disoriented easily. (I found the platform filled up almost completely with bombs, so I got knocked off a lot…)

Aerin always ports back to the platform at the top of the ramp. Wait for him there or range attack from there till he ports back and you can melee or use close-range spells.

When he puts up his shield the Sun crystals you need to break it will always spawn near the top of the ramp. Wait for them there, target him, then smash his shield. Be sure to have him in your target… otherwise you will just run off the platform. And be ready to type the 5 key to remove the crystal asap so you can use your normal attacks as soon as shield is down.

There is a rock on top of the ramp. Use it to LoS Aerin if you need a bit of time to recover HP.

Good luck.. hope this helps. FAIR WARNING: This is a fairly easy fight compared to some of the ones that you need to do later on.
