Kicking... Not Just for Dungeons anymore!
Dungeons and Fractals are the main areas you will find hostile (or really just impatient) players. Often, dungeon LFG’s will have other little abbreviations, such as ‘10k+ ap’ meaning you must have over 10,000 achievement points to join them, or ‘zerk/meta’ meaning you should have full berserker gear otherwise they will kick you. It is simply players trying to get through the content as fast as possible, and his makes sure they have experienced players.
Similarly, it is quite unfortunate that there are a great deal of players that will kick anyone with a low amount of achievement points, simply because they think that player won’t contribute as much as someone with more achievement points, i.e. someone with more experience or better gear e.t.c.
However, that isn’t to say that there are also players that are very willing to group with any players to do dungeons, myself included, so I recommend you look for the LFG’s that are solely ‘p1’ or ‘p2’ or ‘p3’ and don’t have any extra requirements, as those are often the players that will accept anyone, or are even happy to teach new players on their first dungeon run.
As for the heart events LFG’s, I am clueless there as to why people would kick you – I’ve yet to see that kind of behavior, but I would expect that to be exceedingly rare.
Dungeon kicking will be a common thing if you join groups that you don’t meet the requirements for. To avoid this you should only join casual/all welcome runs if that’s what you enjoy.
As for heart event groups kicking you i have no idea, however if you are joining ‘SW 90%’ or ‘Ogranised teq’ kind of groups or even just a general FGS/Orr farm map to use as a taxi, the kicking is understandable so that can taxi as many as possible into their map so it can be successful. In addition, this shouldn’t matter because you have no need for one of those groups after the initial taxi.

OP:
Thats not fun. BTW what class are you using?
For whatever reason (valid or otherwise) some people absolutely refuse to play with certain classes (i.e. ranger and necro) in dungeons.
If you are a ranger or necro, many people kick on sight. You could happen to be the the absolute best player in the entire game, but they just see those classes and are like: “Nope!”

If they ask for someone exp and you are not, dont join
If they ask for higher AP than U got, dont join
If they ask for certain profesions U dont use, dont join
Of they ask for anything at all that U dont know, understand or got, dont join
Dont get why people got such a hard time with that. Instead they blame the dungeon community because they get kicked, calling it toxic. I have been kicked once because they wanted to play with their friends. Its a reason thats the only time
Read the lfg, or better yet. Just make your own!

Anyway….
There’s no question about whether or not the dungeon community is atrocious, it goes without saying; everyone I talked to in the game, when on the subject of dungeons, says they avoid them because of the community… what’s more is, if they didn’t act kitten, there wouldn’t be 100 threads about it. The topic is the asinine behavior of the dungeon community, has started to leak into the open world (which, I guess was inevitable, unfortunately).

Hey Pdavis, thanks for the response. I play a warrior. Honestly, one guy in the game gave me something that might be some insight, he said when you join a party, they can see something about your “acheivements” or “stats” or something, and that might have to do with the instakicking. The problem is, if a large portion of the community is this petty… at times it makes me wonder what’s the point in playing, except logging in to solo occasionally… and the problem with that is, single player games do solo best. Heck even the friends I made rarely want to group, they’re usually off doing their own thing most of the time. Most of my mmorpg days was back when it was mainly geeks and nerds that played them who had intelligence and social skills, I’m starting to think the demographic has changed from that to “trailer trash” if you will; esp. on FTP games. Oh well. GW2 has it’s moments at least.

Oh yeah, one more thing, even if not reading the lfg was a valid point, which it’s not, since i thoroughly do, the proper thing to do would be to say so over group chat, then let me leave… not kick me like some kind of kittened barbarian.

I’m actually kind of baffled as to why you’re getting kicked so much from groups. If it was only the “requirements” some people put in LFG’s for dungeons, it might make more sense. As far as event groups, I really don’t understand.
I have seen some toxic pug dungeon groups, but most of the ones I end up joining aren’t. The worst groups I’ve seen are ones that kick people for not meeting requirements that weren’t even listed in the LFG. When that happens I drop the party, grab the person that was kicked, and run with them instead.
Maybe it’s just the time of day you’re on, or bad luck. I’m sorry that you’ve been having such trouble with groups, though.

You are doing something wrong is the point. Only time when its not you who are wrong, its those even worse people who wants something special but dont post it. But if its correct U get kicked all the time, you must be doing something wrong. Just face facts. Cause I dont believe U always read the lfg when U join something. Then you wouldnt be kicked all the time, just sayin’
One more thing, most of the people complaining on the forum about dungeons, dont read the lfg. They are in the wrong. Most people are just not smart nowadays, and blame everyone else

Sounds like you attitude may be the problem, or you are doing something else wrong. I join nearly a dozen pugs a day for the last 2 years and have never once been kicked. I can say with 100% certainty that the problem is you. About 30% of those parties are with my necro, so I know for a fact that your class is not the problem.

It very well could be the achievment point. Thats the only thing visible to the party. Even if groups don’t post an AP requirement, most groups that simply state “Px” generally are looking for meta/zerk/AP/EXP people in their parties.
If you are just starting in dungeons, your best bet would be to start your own LFG stating you are fairly new, and Any Welcome.
Any Welcome groups usually fill very fast, and they aren’t picky about AP, class, experience etc. Although you still get a few people who join who are actually looking for speed runs/meta parties and get upset when the run isn’t as “efficient” as it could be.

I first experienced random kicking with the dungeon community upon reaching level 80. Every single time I joined a dungeon group, here’s how it would go, after clicking the group advert, I would place my hands on the keyboard to begin to greet everyone, then I’d see:
Moron no. 1 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
Moron no. 2 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
Moron no. 3 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
(my character) has been kicked out of the group.
There’s a very good chance here that a different moron joined a group that had explicit requirements they did not meet.
If you are getting kicked from open world lfgs as well as dungeon ones, then assuming your warrior is level 80, I would suspect the replies in this thread are wrong, and the insta-kicks are mostly due to whatever you named your character.
My character name is a generic fantasy name like “Reinhart Malak” or “Halgrim Redstone” so it must be the acheivements, or the above theories I presented.

What’s more is, I never have this problem in other games, just GW2, so it can’t be me, unless it’s the achievement thing. It’s probably been years since the players who replied to my thread have had low achievement points, presumably?

His experience, as well as mine, dont negate the 100s of threads about it.
Its well known that the forums only represent a small portion of the players as a whole.
We have a great community here, dungeons and otherwise.
Personally ive been only kicked out of 2 or 3 dungeon parties my entire gw2 career. Ive run hundreds of dungeons.
Granted there are mean people, people who only want certain types of players, but by and large the community is rather laid back.
No one comes on the forums to say how awesome that pug group was, or how many successful fun runs they’ve had. Just the bad ones.
So if you consider the 100s of threads, from say a generous 10% of the games population,
That still leaves a very very small percentage of the community as a whole.
It’s the chain I beat you with until you

I just started doing dungeons and got my 17K+ AP from doing WvW, achieves, Living Story, etc. The only reason I started dungeons was to get the tokens so I could make a Legendary. What amazes me is the assumption that because you have that amount of AP it is because you ran dungeons. So far I have gotten a lot of comments that I should know what to do or the path even though I mention I am new to dungeons when I join a PUG. Obvious there is an automatic assumption that my AP is connected to dungeon running which is amazing considering all the other stuff there is to do in the game to get your AP.
I am very good at following instructions and usually can hold my own even if I am in a new dungeon. If I wipe I am all about trying until I figure it out or get it right and I try very hard to make sure I am a team player…. I look at walkthroughs/videos of the various paths for the dungeon I am interested in before trying to get into a group so I at least have an idea of what we are going to do. So far I have not been kicked, though it might have been touch and go a couple of times, lol. (you do encounter impatient folk in dungeons for sure)
Overall the groups I have joined have been pretty good to outstanding but I think you do have to work to communicate what you can do or are willing to do and watch the party chat to catch any instructions from those who know the dungeon.
I tend to pass over a lot of LFG postings, so many are elitist with their requirements and it is discouraging for new folk wanting to casually learn a dungeon. (its about the fun for me mainly) I try for any that welcome all or mention noobs – sadly there way too few of those.
You didn’t mention your AP but I am wondering if that may be part of the issue which certainly isn’t your fault. I have seen high AP folk who couldn’t bat their way around an ailing skritt…. Blocking or insulting them is pointless. They don’t know you and it certainly isn’t personal. Your best bet is to find a guild with your interests and try to get a small core group of friends together to run dungeons and do the things you are interested in. Try posting for a group yourself with your requirements such as noob wanting to learn path, everyone welcome etc. Possibly you will get some folk willing to mentor and have a lot of fun in the process. Good luck to you if you decide to try again.

Yeah I’ve never been kicked, neither has my wife when she started an account with no AP and joined dungeon groups.
Also, why is this in the Living World section? You’ll get more responses in the correct section just like you will more groups keeping you if you fit the description of the LFG.
Sigh…just find a guild. Say hello. Make friends. Run dungeons with guildies. Problem solved.
Who wants a pug and worry about chat, when they can talk to someone?

These days every dungeon advert I see are something like “P1, 80, exp”, okay doing p1 but requires level 80 and experiences players?
What if I have a level 80 but with no experience and wish to garner some?
How can I gain experience with the dungeon if I do not get a chance to?
Ever tried hosting a dungeon in private (if possible) instead of a pug?
In the past 3 months, I played a bit as Ele with my mule account which has very low AP. Including dungeons and fractals up to level 32. That means I joined the fractals with PUGs about 40 times. I was not kicked even once.
I witnessed only 2 kicks in all my runs, both in the fractals deep in the 2nd or 3rd fractal where it became apparent that one member did not have agony resistance and was not able to make it up with good gameplay (for example to dodge the agony attacks).
There was one Mai Trin encounter where 3 of 5 always died very soon because they either weren’t able to dodge the cannon attacks or did not have enough agony resistance. No one was kicked, I duo’d this encounter as Ele together with a Ranger and all was fine.
I started doing fractals with the mule account at 1500 AP, currently 2200 AP. No one asked about this or complained about this. Of course I never joined groups with a “5k+” requirement or other requirement I did not fit, although I am an experienced fractal player and am able to go with “lvl 50 zerk meta groups”. But this is not apparent from my mule account character, so I did not join such groups. It has not enough agony resistance to play 40+, anyway.
You have to read the lfg descriptions carefully. I tend to join “all welcome” groups. They might be not the fastest runs, but they are always relaxed and friendly groups.

What you do is create your own LFG with the description ‘p1 casual run all welcome’
Once it fills, which shouldnt take long, 10mins max, you tell them you are new to the path. That way you can find people who are willing to take it slow and teach you the mechanics of the dungeon.
Alternatively you can head over to the dungeon forum where there are ‘Dungeon Mentors’, highly experienced players who allow you to sign up for one of their teaching runs. Its stickied at the top of the forums. Remember to say if you are NA or EU.
Another option is to watch the numerous video guides of the dungeons where players will explain each aspect of the path. Its boring but can let you learn the path instantly and let you jump into more exp groups without being instakicked if thats what you really want. Some might be out of date though.
Final option is to join a guild and group with members. People are generally much more tolerant of guildies and much more willing to help than they are total strangers.
Remember it gets very tiring to teach new players over and over every single run, and sometimes exp players just want a smooth and fast run. Their playtime is as valuable as anyone else’s and they should be able to spend it the way they want, as should you ofc.
There’s a small chance of people abandoning your group when you advertise it too. I had that happen twice, with “Newbies – Lvl 2/3 FotM” as text. People joined, party wiped once and they left.
You’d think that the “elites” of this game aren’t all reading the chat either. And the general attitude leans towards selfishness. GW1 had one of the best communities and one would think that moved over to GW2. But ye, times are changing and common sense is in short supply.
To avoid such situations, we (me and my gf) ended up looking for and trying only instances that can be duo-ed or 3somed (when another friend pops online). It makes half the options unavailable, the runs a lot longer, but I’d rather try and fail for 1 hour than get the generic rage-quitter every now and then (getting enough of them in pvp).
Most of the big guilds are friendly and there’s always someone doing some instance. Problem there is with the rep %, especially if you have your own guild a care about it.
As such, probably the best way would be still to advertise for a “Newbie lfg for x instance”, even if you did watch vids and aren’t all that clueless about it. Insulting and blocking certainly won’t get you friendlier groups for sure. You can poke them without being rude if they were in the wrong and just move on. GW it’s still a game -designed to have fun – and if you get to the point you’re swearing a lot, you’re taking it too serious ^x^
I have never experienced this behaviour – are you sure you aren’t doing something wrong (just seems so odd that something can happen so consistantly and instantly)? Especially in open world stuff I can’t see people being AP demanding there.. Unless people are like this and I’ve just never noticed cause I’ve been playing since launch.

are you familiar with the concept called “taxi”?
Its where you would post and lfg, and try to get as many as possible into the zone. To do this you have to have people leave party, or kick them. This is so you can get more people join into the zone.
Dungeons, your complaint is 99% of the time coming from people who don’t know how to read the lfg description, so my sympathy for you is none.
Also calling everyone else morons is going to result in people kicking you, just because its you.

0 points?
so he is lvl 2 and just done with his tutorial?
Anyways, whenever I meet people with low AP I ask them if they know whats up. If they don’t I explain stuff. I only kick if they don’t listen or come with silly builds they insist on (having bad gear is fine, since everyone has to start at some point).
And as a matter of fact, I know a metric kittenton of people who behave exactly like that as well. So unless my Server is a magical micro-cosmos, completely dispatched from the rest of the community, I can not explain how you get kicked so often IF you tell the truth.
And that’s exactly the point I doubt. You didn’t read the lfg properly, came with too low AP to a group that was searching for higher, and since you keep doing this quite regularly, you get kicked quite regularly.
The solution: only join groups that don’t have AP requirements or “exp [expirienced]” in their description. Also, join a guild. People without a guild (and therefore no expirienced players around, who could train them) and low AP is usually the best combination for impending kitten-ups and delays, hence people rather kick right away and search for a more promising member.
So unless my Server is a magical micro-cosmos, completely dispatched from the rest of the community, I can not explain how you get kicked so often IF you tell the truth.
Server doesn’t matter. Only the region(NA/EU) matters.
So unless my Server is a magical micro-cosmos, completely dispatched from the rest of the community, I can not explain how you get kicked so often IF you tell the truth.
Server doesn’t matter. Only the region(NA/EU) matters.
The point still stands however.
On the point of linking AP to experience, I’ve found that sometimes it holds true, and sometimes it doesn’t. I’ve gone into dungeons with people that have twice the AP I do, and I end up teaching them the dungeon. I have also had people with AP lower than mine perform amazingly with their class. If I’m in a “casual” pug group, especially for a low level dungeon like AC I make sure to ask if everyone knows the path. If they don’t, I’ll teach them. From the “exp, 80’s, zerk” groups I’ve only seen a few kicks, and even one situation where an under-leveled person joined and we took them along anyway for lols.
If you’re getting kicked out of groups that are “just doing heart events” I have a strong suspicion that the problem is with one community member in particular.
Elementalist – Necromancer – Warrior
There are three reasons why dungeon groups kick people before they can even say “hi”:
1) they stated which class they need, you joined on a class they did not need
2) they stated how many APs you should have, you did not have enough
3) they found someone – a friend or guildie – before they could take the lfg off
Other kicks include, but are not limited to:
1) not pinging the right gear when they ask you to
2) if they ask if you could run a specific build and you don’t want to or ask “what is that?”
3) they speak another language and don’t want the hassle of communication problems
I dislike pugs because of the elitism, spvp is whatever as they cannot kick and they are surprisingly less toxic than some of the pve groups.
I joined a guild to do my dungeon runs and it is nice to help out other people who are new. I’ve played since launch and my one and only PvE pug involved a guy who was straight up abusive because I didn’t want to continue on the 3rd hour of an explorable AC run.

I’ve never have had an issue with the dungeon community in this game. Most people I party with are pretty chill. Maybe you’re a very unlucky fellow. And for open world, I never join a group to do hearts, or POIs. It’s more challenging and rewarding to do that on your own.
This sort of asinine behavior makes everyone in the party look like their I.Q. is somewhere around 70…… and it probably is.
it’s gotten to the point to where I insult the offending kickers, letting them know they’ve all been blocked.
What the h*ll kind of asinine community is this? Oddly enough, I think it might have something to do with the type of people who would advertise for a group in the first place, they must tend to be idiots.
Being kicked is irritating, but I guarantee, YOU are making the Guild Wars 2 community just as unpleasant as people you are so upset at.
Spitting out insults about how stupid and asinine others are for daring to kick YOU, isn’t going to gain you any sympathy. It just makes you look rude and arrogant.
More so, you freely admit that whenever you get kicked, you HARASS people with insults.
Nobody is obligated to game with you, just because you joined their party.
I just came back from a break recently and the last couple of days I’ve had people join my newly created LFG groups with their friends and just instantly vote kick me out of my own group without saying a word.
I don’t know who came up with the idea for this function but it’s obvious this community can’t handle it. And to be honest I can’t see anything good coming from it but then again I’m not a game dev so what do I know?
Interesting theme. Seen enough kick attempts for my ranger friend when we go together in a dungeon. When I warned them not to do that – they leave themselves, lol. Although I can understand ranger hate, but its not like they all came from a conveyor.
Anyway. Something is not right. Either you run into taxi with open world content (obviously you dont need party for open world), or you are really not reading lfg. Chances that every single time you run into strange people who care about AP, are like non-existent.
are you running full signets with a rifle? if you are, buddy thats why
currently a Boyfriend main :P
Waiting To ReRoll Mystic & Forget About Tyria
My friend has 25k Achievement Points and all he plays is PVT+Staff Guardian running world events. Ach Points Mean diddly
Repping Beastgate since day 1.
Now, I have completely quit dungeons, and when I look for groups doing random things in the open world, even when I make sure the group advert is described as “Doing heart events” or “Join me!” or “Doing Orr events” I’ll click the “join party” button, then as I greet everyone, or as I attempt to great everyone, here’s what happens in the first nanosecond:
Moron no. 1 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
Moron no. 2 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
Moron no. 3 has voted to kick (my character) out of the group.
(my character) has been kicked out of the group. This sort of asinine behavior makes everyone in the party look like their I.Q. is somewhere around 70…… and it probably is.
I literally cannot join a single group without witnessing the above behavior, my friends list has only 4 people on it, as the direct result of this behavior 99.9 percent of the time I join a group, I swear I’m not even making this up, it’s like this every time I log in GW2, and attempt to join a group, it’s gotten to the point to where I insult the offending kickers, letting them know they’ve all been blocked.

I’ve played mmos since 1996, and GW2 is the first modern MMO I have played, even DAOC’s community is nowhere near this bad, kicking in that game is still extremely rare. Oh wait, I have played AOC as well, I forgot. anyway, I never got kicked on that game either, the month or so I played it, mainly around Tortage, I grouped with quite a few people there, and never got kicked there either…. so what gives here in GW2? On a side note, I’ve played GW2 off and on since 2013
Maybe it’s on your end? I never get kicked.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
From my own experience, the community has been nothing but welcoming. I just started playing 4 months ago and didn’t have any AP to my name. Started doing dungeons with pugs and never got kicked from any group. I run 5+ paths a day and haven’t had any issue. Even when I kitten my group helps me get back on my feet.
I’m honestly inclined to call bs on this one. You may have had the unfortunate luck to get kicked a few times, but not every single time you try to join a party. Something is up and it’s not the community.
I dont want to victim blame, but there are several ways to avoid being kicked from a group:
1) Read the group description and understand that you may not be what they are looking for.
2) Your class might not be the most adequate for specific content, if you are going to play a subpar class at least go for the best build.
3) Achievement points despite being mostly useless tell parties how dedicated/experienced you are so if you are low you might want to get to 5k AP min
OP. Add me. I am looking for party companions of Dungeons, world bosses and many other stuff on Tyria. Don’t worry, I don’t care if you have 0 AP or 100000000 gazillion AP or you have white gear. I will help you with it.

Want to reiterate my experience as this id definiately not the case. I’ve only been playing a few months and my AP is under 4k and I’ve never had a problem with getting kicked from groups because of it. I run tons of dungeons and fractals, open world content too. Never been kicked because of low AP.
Never tried joining a group that requires xAP before in description. But for all others that don’t mention it, it was not a problem.
the person to make the party needs to be in control of it, democracy isnt for everything
