As always, we would love to hear your feedback about Episode 3 of Living World Season 3.
After you’ve had a chance to play “A Crack in the Ice,” please share a brief synopsis of your feedback here. You are, of course, welcome to make separate threads on the subject of the LWS3/E3. For instance, you may wish to discuss a particular encounter in detail, or give guidance on certain steps in the story. Perhaps you want to talk about a tasty recipe, or commiserate about that hard-to complete JP. All such threads are welcome! (Although I’d say again what I’ve said before: one thread per subject is super helpful to the devs.)
If you could share a brief summation of your feelings here — say 50 words or less? — that would be very helpful, too.
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.
First mission is bugged. Dragon got stuck and would not proceed (ooze part). I’ve heard of this happening during the rescue the vigil section too.

Same for me, last ooze generator and Aurene won’t attack it.

Same happened to me. She got physically stuck on the third generator. Letting her ‘die’ did nothing to correct the issue.
Update: The second attempt succeeded, I was unable to reproduce the bug.

We are investigating the reports of Aurene getting stuck on Ooze Generators.
Had to wait out a Tarir Meta that was to short to complete but long enough to agitate everyone on the map before even starting the story. It’s minor but something like this has a cascading effect for the rest of the play session. A clean start would have preferred but the location is the location and it’s a bit of RNG to land on the map while an inactive meta is in process.
Also Aurene never loaded my first run so had to leave the instance and return she did load the second attempt.

Logged in to start the new chapter and I am blocked from starting until the event in Tarir is finished, wish it wasn’t like this, I’ll just log and comeback some other time.

Please fix it quickly. 3 attempts, bugs in the same place. :/
Haven’t had a chance to play just yet, but I was super bouncy excited by the patch notes:
Creatures in Bloodstone Fen will no longer be able to throw rocks at flying players 6,000 units away. Their range has been reduced to 2,000 units.
A Petrified Wood home instance node is now available for purchase in Ember Bay.
Yes!
(I’ll have something more meaningful to add when I get home. XD)
I died at the ooze generator part and Aurene has disappeared and now I’m stuck in the maze and can’t progress. Aurene is nowhere.
She unbugged herself after 5mins for me. Really would have been annoying to re-do this on a such a slow mission due to a bug.
Might be worth looking into the number of elite mobs spawning. a dozen or more in one wave seems excessive. Aurene is getting obliterated in seconds befroe even getting to some of the generators

Same.
The first mission is amazing. It just show to Aurene how our community works ^^ welcome Aurene
Broken as usual, gameplay is of course, Anet signature annoying.
Please say we do not have to do initial stuff in the LS just to get on the new map!!!!!

Just complete the Aurene training mission.
It was fun, and it was so cuuuuuute to see Aurene escort and guiding the wounded soldiers to the safe zone.
Please give my congratulations the animator(s) in charge of Aurene. They did very well in giving her a playful and excited little young dragon attitude!
So far, I’m enjoying much more the new format of the living story. More spaced episodes, but more involving storywise.

Played episode 3 together with my boyfriend, he received the achievement “Vigilant” (probably because he was instance opener) but I didn’t
Aurene’s training is as boring as it’s bugged.
Please do something about the infinite ooze generators and let me enjoy the real adventure, i’m not a Pokemon trainer ! >:(
Do i understand correctly that you have to learn the mastery before being able to enter the new map? If yes: would have been nice to know beforehand so people could have farmed mastery points.

No, you need to finish the missions leading up to entering it.
OMFG Home run ANET.
As I said while waiting for the Mordrem assault to end on Tarir so I could begin the episode; “Say what you will of ANET, they tell a great story.” The story and it’s presentation were outstanding.
Aurene is cute as all kitten. I loved her communications and animations. The idea of being a surrogate mom to a dragon has me grinning from ear to ear. I especially enjoyed seeing her knock over The Luminate in affectionate play.
I like that the trials weren’t excessively difficult once the mechanic was understood.
The last trial was the odd one out. I never saw what specifically I had to do to give Aurene her opening.
Aurene never stuck, but she was delayed many times engaging the oozes. The player needs to closely escort her so that she continues moving. This may be the source of the alleged bug.
Bug Noted:
The Luminate’s voice appeared to split into two separate voices in the first speech. I’m guessing a female and male are blended to give the voice. They became two distinct voices during the first speech.

Nevermind. Got it.
Remember how we wanted option to skip dialog?
Forget that. Give us option to skip whole story and just get to new map.
Story is… I wished I could just kill that kitten ugly dragon and get over with this crap you make us play.
And after restarting the Ooze section, Aurene got stuck on the first gen this time…

Ooze: cut back on the immobilize and the spawning.
The ooze are pouring out of the further ooze generators while we are closing off the first ones. Because of that there’s a large number of them in the corridors. They spam immobilize and the dragon stops to fight so she can’t be led past them. Trying to kill the ooze so she will follow ended with me getting swarmed and killed, twice. The ooze then despawn so it’s possible to reach the next generator, although again, more is pouring out of it and spamming their immobilize skill and stopping the dragon from moving.

The ooze in the maze are a bit much for most classes to deal with.
The paucity of waypoints is too extreme on the new map. It was acceptable on Ember Bay and Bloostone Fen due to the huge variety of transport options and how easy the transport options were to utilize, but here we have less of that, and the ones we have are not that close to the waypoints that they are easy to work with.
We are continuing to run into the same issue we have been having since HOT launched: Every map is lvl 80, so it only has T5/6 Mats (Mithril/Ori and Elder/ Ancient Wood). Every map we will ever get from now on will be level 80. We need more maps that have different materials on them. We need high level maps with Iron, and Seasoned wood, platinum, etc. It somewhat made sense in the initial release to spread mats like this, but it doesn’t anymore. there are now almost as many maps with T5/6 Mats as EVERY OTHER MAT COMBINED. And also, players want to play the new maps, not the old ones, so forcing us to run lower level maps just to farm while glutting the system with T5/6 makes farming even more of a chore than it needs to be. Stop having the map level determine the materials that are on it.
Also, and I cannot stress this enough: STOP FILLING UP OUR INVENTORY WITH PORTAL SCROLLS AND CUSTOM MAP CURRENCY.

Went trough the story and whole map.
Story is amazingly well done, especially what Braham said and did at the end – oh yeah! We totally need stuff to go in this direction!
About map? Okay, I got my new absolutely favourite map of gw2 now. It is just amazing. I liked Bloodstone Fen, did not enjoy Ember Bay that much. But this… seriously!
And the mastery is great. Also adding old stuff to map, guys you did great job!
Many thanks! I’ll spend most of my next 2 months doing stuff in the new zone!
To summarize my experience:
New Story 10/10
New mastery 12/10
New map 15/10
Yea, sounds crazy but I enjoy it hell’a’lot

I don’t know how to say this without being toxic since i am angry as kitten, but in order to progress the story and enter inside the new map i have to unlock the new mastery wich i don’t have. Anet you have locked living story without advertising,so now i need to stay all night and repeat some adventures till i unlock the mastery points instead of playing the living story. I HATE THIS MINI JUMPING PUZzLES, this is why i stayed with 140 since i tought i would get some from this new episode. sigh
You don’t need new mastery to unlock map. Pick up torch, come close to entrance and “F” to go. You don’t need the skills on torch from mastery throughout whole story at all.
The new map was refreshing. I was afraid it would be bland like the vanilla norn maps but it’s much better.
BUT there are currently so many subplots going on at the same time it’s getting all over the place. It makes the story flow super incoherent and jumpy. White mantle, priomordus, taimi study, jormag awakening, aurene thingy, morjory up to god-knows-what, and now braham going bananas….. PLEASE PICK A PLOTLINE
We are investigating the reports of Aurene getting stuck on Ooze Generators.
For me the mission took about 5 mins for aurene to destroy the first egg generator. Then I turned around and over 50 oozes had spawn from the 2nd generator, we both died. When we respawn, the oozes had despawn and Aurene was destroying the generators normally.
So far, I mostly liked everything about this patch… save for the end of the story. Without spoiling to much, my main is a Norn, and I would have favoured to follow Braham option rather than Taimi’s. Sure, Asura magic is great, but I would want more of a brawl with Jormag, Norn-style.
I know that it isn’t possible to cater to every player’s wishes, but I felt that, had I played any other races, nothing would have changed, which is a shame, because I want to hunt down Jormag since even before the launch of the game.
Otherwise, the new zone is simply gorgeous. I’ve always liked the Norn zones, but this one, with the giant trees and hot springs is simply the best.

Unfortunately, Aurene gets stuck constanty.
Even with trying again at checkpoints, she will still stand still/not attacking.
Too frustrating for me to try for the 6th time, not because of my fault.
Jumping to ESO, it’s on an epic sale, check it out y’all!
Hey! I’m not sure where to put this but I’m hoping this is the right place as I’ve seen many people asking about this in map-chat.
I’m currently trying to make a certain Elixir and I may have harvested all of the winterberries on the map before activating this story step. Now theres no more berries left, and my progress is stuck. BUT i did manage to actually make the elixir and go into the Bitter Cold, but without story progression (Still stuck on a half-full bar of berries gathered.)
What should i do?
Wow oh wow! Playing catch with a dragonIt seems GW2 is going to have it’s own version of Eye of The North. That’s very interesting.
@Valentine, I suspect you have to wait for reset to harvest again.
Too much talking. I actually tab out the game now when the NPCs start talking, and go find something useful to do with my time.
And yet more items to clog up my bags with, getting ridiculous now.
@Valentine, I suspect you have to wait for reset to harvest again.
I restarted the story step by switching to Rising Flames and back, and now it does count the berries i’d already gathered. Solved!

It’s okay, there’s some definite hiccups and rough spots though. Overall its bland and forgettable, but not necessarily bad. 4 outta 10 Quaggans would approve.
I haven’t finished it yet, but managed to play for a bit through it all. The first mission…“insert what everyone else is saying”. Its okay, feels weird… Neatish to see our characters are trying to bond with the dragon. Lots of sitting down waiting for Npc’s to tell a story. Feels forced and fake.
The new map; Its decent, really plain and flat in some areas, gives a bit of a rushed feel. Event-wise, there is really really little to do, its just the same defend/kill ez champ at x-spot in 3 different areas. The icebrood kodan are annoying in groups, but manageable. The Jp’s are plain and just simple throw spaced out blocks on cliffsides. forgettable. The new maps in general are just so empty, this I’d rate below most core maps. The Hot Spring events come out of no where, along with the stunhappy mobile mobs that nuke and kill everything, pace out there spawns and give a ‘you are going to die warning’. Ember Bay has more to do. Little replay n’ stay value.
The sky coaster is nice… if you could reliably get to it, the updrafts don’t all bring you high enough to get to it easily, place them higher. Otherwise its a good addition and plus it doesn’t make the map look like Mario Kart invaded unlike the previous maps. The thermal tubes are kinda out of the way and unused.
The inventory. You already know what I’m thinking, there is absolutely no need to add another dozen of quest/map/crafting junk items that should be either in the collection panels, moved to vendor unlocks, or in the bank materials. It’s extremely annoying to have another half of a 20 slot pack ate by this. Stop for the love of the Six. I know you’re pushing new players to buy slots. Stop.
Sorry its over 50 words, couldn’t say anything I wanted with that little.

A brief synopsis:
The Story:
The weakest episode so far in season 3, I enjoyed episode 1 and 2, but 3 was too short when you consider that the most story you have revolves around farming mobs and items to progress to a lackluster “thats it?” ending. It was good to see Braham getting some much needed character growth, but Rox was very much a spare part in this episode with little story.
The Gameplay:
Horrendously bad, I mean, by far the worst for the specific solo friendly episodes. Too many mobs in that last mission forcing waves upon waves of veteran and elite mobs on a “solo” mission was really, really bad design and honestly the ugliest thing ive seen in the game so far.
Moving Forwards:
As your MMO is slowly shifting towards an RPG focus, commit, dont just be half-hearted. You need to accept that you cant please both your MMO community and your RPG community at the same time without sacrifice, as such, this is what should be done:
- All future story should focus on story specific agenda, instead of clustering lots of events on the map and slowing progress, clump up a heavy episode with dialogue, character growth and meaningful cutscene heavy events.
- Gameplay in those stories should be fun, ask yourselves next time, is having a hundred mobs to kill for a single player actually fun? Maybe if I had an item that could kill them all epicly and I had to use it for that specific encounter it could be, as an example of this done right: The Mini Boss fight against the Icebrood/Mordrem hybrid was actually fun because of its mini mechanic gimmick. But in contrast, the endless waves of icebrood/svanir/spiders/elementals and then the extremely unfair final boss with massive spams of AOE was just “not” fun at all without some means of turning the tide.
A story doesnt need to be part of your MMO, it can be its own thing, with its own appeal, to its own audience. The MMO side of the game should focus more on the fractals/raiding where it belongs, but the actual story, with the most important events, the biggest characters and the personal story being “personal” to you, should be personal to every individual playing it, you should “feel” like the hero you “should” be able to kill mobs easily with special toys or gimmicks, and maybe find special boss encounters that require you to stand infront of a mirror to reflect a laser beam, or get on a turret to shoot down flying drakes.
Etc-etc
I could go on a rampage but I am not trying to demolish here, im trying to feedback, my critique, is that this episode was too short for its story, and too long, for its grinding, and gameplay farming for any one individual to enjoy.
Mechanically:
The story is buggy in multiple points – also there are areas where it is not easily clear what you have to do to progress.
Bonus: Final instance has the ice pillars disappear so you can’t tell if they’re broken or not.
QA dropped the ball pretty hard – it was a frustrating experience fighting with the bugs.
Also – how come everything we do story-wise is the same – move – kill some mobs – move – kill some mobs – over and over in EVERY instance.
The gathering of stuff is good – but it takes up WAY too much inventory space for stuff that could have just been ticked on a list.
Thematically:
The new map looks amazing – both night and day – fair weather or storm – the visuals are TOP NOTCH.
But then everything is ruined since you set up this great notion of “this wilderness full of dangers in the frozen north” and fill it up with Tyria’s most inept race – the quaggans.
They’re surviving just fine and it is immersion breaking to no end. Everywhere I go – quaggan.
It completely ruins a great map for me – would have been 10/10 without the useless quaggans – in its current state I can’t give it more than a 6.5/10.
Not every map has to have comic relief cutsey races – please stop shoving them down our throats. A very vocal part of the player base loves them – I get that. But they don’t need to be in the most dangerous places on the map breaking immersion 24/7.
Story:
The story is pretty interesting – not a lot of twists or anything. Braham is insufferable (which I guess was what they were going for – they nailed it) but I hate that we can’t actually tell him off and just twiddle our metaphorical thumbs in front of him like a dazed schoolgirl.
Some “commander” we ended up being.
New map elements:
I like that you get the new map currency FASTER than in other maps.
The new mechanic with the torches is – meh. I wasn’t really interested and it didn’t feel integral to the map – just tacked on.
Overall – 5/10.

The ooze then despawn so it’s possible to reach the next generator, although again, more is pouring out of it and spamming their immobilize skill and stopping the dragon from moving.
The last generator was really a pain because of this. It took me longer to get Aurene around that last corner so she would attack that generator than it did to take down the first 3 combined. I would cut down on the spawning of the “Elite” oozes at the last two generators though and it should be good, they were only a problem because they took so much longer to kill than the regular ones, allowing even more oozes to spawn in the meantime. Overall though this was a really fun instance to play through though.
Overall I love the story so far. Really well done! I loved playing catch with Aurene. Haven only done the first 2 instances, didn’t have time for more so far. Though can anyone tell me what spoilerthat fried rabbit steak thing you get after the mission where you feed the orphans?. I used it next to Aurene like it said to but nothing happened and it disappeared from my inventory, not sure if something was supposed to happen or not.
Another person here who has the bug where Aurene won’t attack the Ooze generators. I have tried allowing the ooze to kill her, to kill me, to kill us both at the same time before ressing, restarting the whole story step, etc. It’s been over an hour and I think I am done for tonight. This is a really frustrating bug seeing as I cannot progress to the new content any other way than through the story. Hope it gets fixed soon.
I had that too – it really ruins the flow of things.

Story is garbage, but all this cutesy stuff is really killing the release. Why the kitten do you need to put all this cutesy BS in the patches?! Ember Bay was one big joke all around, between skritts and frikkin clowns and OMG that stupid Aurene. Bloodstone Fen was much, much better. Atm the top 3 of your 3 releases is 1. Bloodstone Fen, 2. Bloodstone Fen, 3. Bloodstone Fen.
And why is Braham hating you? You literally killed the thing that killed his mom, and he was there too. You can crap out “explanations” but that doesn’t mean they stick. So much potential, all to waste.

The man is just being honest. I feel the same way.
The story was stretched by farming item x y and z. The only thing i really liked was kicking the chickens to get their feathers.
When the Braham-Cutscene started i was like “Ok here we go!!!” Arrow hits tooth. The End.
Really, all this stuff with the quaggan is so boring. Is this intended to satisfy the under 6yo crowd. Come on…!
