I’ve completed the LS with two of my characters now, but still have no progress towards the achievements except for the one where you get Scarlet’s chest of desert goodies. What must I do to start getting progress?
Replay it, and complete the separate Achievements on those characters.
As given above, open your story journal and replay Episode 1. After checking your mail, purple icons should appear on the map, which indicate 3 replayable instances in which you can get the story journal achievements.

It’s currently impossible to disable it once you hit replay, unless of course you complete the entire story chain again.

When the next release comes about you should be able to switch this release’s story instance replaying for another’s. So being unable to “turn it off” is just an inconvenience for this week. From then on you just got to switch around – or to turn it off completely, complete a replay.
Sadly, no replay of PS chapters…

Replay it on each character? I have now replayed it on my main (who had incidentally also completed her PS), and saw the purple stars and green star once I pressed “Replay Episode”, but according to the PoI episode I should be seeing the purple stars on all my level 80 characters that have at least played the episode once. I’m not seeing that. Is it bugged, am I just bugged, or is playing each episode at least twice (non-withstanding replaying the purple star areas) mandatory?
Once I ‘read’ the letter sitting in my read-mail box, it unlocked all the Story Episodes and Achievements for my other character. I suspect you have to do that for each one. But, I’ve only done it for two, so I can’t say for sure.

On the one that had completed her PS long before this LS, the green star simply disappeared after first completing the LS. It re-appeared (and would not go away) once I clicked “Replay Episode”, as this was the only way to get to see the purple stars on that character. I was forced to finish the episode a second time to make the green star disappear again, but the purple stars thankfully remain.
On my second level 80 character, the green star went back to her last PS step once I had completed the LS. After reading the other responses in this thread, I realised I would be forced to “Replay Episode” on her too. I now also have the purple stars with her, but only if I don’t continue with my PS. As soon as I do this, the purple stars disappear again. I have not actually replayed any part of the episode however, for fear of not being able to re-enable the purple stars if I continue with her PS, and because it is getting to be so mind-numbingly boring.
Surely this is not intended design?
