The encounter was a bit aggravating. Trying to take care of a mender ghost while being feared for like 5 seconds, no joke. I managed to do it without dying once, but it was only thanks to using a short bow(thief) so some of the surrounding ghosts were nearly dead and I could rally off them.

I hate Fear
it’s such a player screwing condition..
it’s only real use is in Pvp against other players
in pve it’s almost compeltely useless since many enemies are completely immune to the stupid condition and they are the ones that you need it the most for champions etc

and im not talking defiant here im talking about complete immunity to it..
talk about a useless condition

I thought that fight was a lot of fun, a little slow on the mender and it usually died before even reaching the hammer hit ring. Flares I could either kite or just dodge directly through them to deactivate. Didn’t even have to worry about other ghosts, until I needed to charge the sword. And fear? Please, if you can’t even avoid a static circle on the ground, then I’m afraid there is no hope for you. More fights like that ANet, please. Achievements were also fun!

That’s the only point I cant agree with; I don’t believe there should be any gated content… a harder version with better rewards, titles, and achievements, yes; but content only hardcore players can play, no.

Content should be for everyone, rewards and achievements… they should be earned.

Seems to me that part of my problem is that I don’t seem to have the reaction time some of you have I guess. Gear is pretty good, I’m getting rid of the menders, except for when rhythm ends up breaking for one reason or another. I move as fast as I can to get the things down, bottlenecking the menders in the door, freezing them with signet, and maybe 4 out of 5 I can get down, it’s the 5th one that’s the problem because it gets through and it’s back to the beginning. So no, not zerging, I am taking a tactical approach.

And these instances are supposed to be allowed for soloing, so I’d like to be able to do it that way. And please don’t give me the “why are you playing an mmo”. There are times, even in an mmo, that I don’t want to depend on a group due to RL reasons. I only get a chance to play in between naps and activities of my kids. So it’s nice to have things I can access on my own schedule, and if I have to leave because of a rl emergency, I don’t leave anyone hang. I like being polite.

I AM going to check my gear and traits again, but I’m really not sure how helpful that’s going to be in the end.

I just realized I said I was using sword/focus and gs. I was using sword/pistol and gs. Whoops. If you do pistol instead of focus, it might lend you some much-needed single-target on those menders with the phantasm from pistol. You also get a CC in the form of that scatter shot thing (if I recall correctly, the mender is not immune).

By “gets through” do you mean it gets to the statue at the end of the room? That’s when it needs to be killed before.

And I must have missed a memo, but Guardian can use pistols? Maybe it’s been a while since I looked at weapon skills, but I remember higher level adding staff focus and septre. I’ll admit I’ve been gone for a while and maybe I missed it. Sigh, I need something (besides Google) that lets me know everything. I’ll have to play with the new combo a bit before I go into a boss fight with it. Stupid not to know what they actually do.

I do have greatsword, but it’s just harder to keep the mender in one place. Being able to yank him back is nice, but considering you can’t aggro him, it’s a very short window. Which is why i was depending on ranged.

Also, how good is your gear and what kind of stats are you using? Rare (yellow), Exotics, Greens?

I would say try to get your gear up to yellow in most slots if possible. It’s not strictly necessary, but it’ll ease your kill time a little bit. If you keep an eye on this website: http://gw2.limitlessfx.com/ (you can copy/paste the code below the boss name to see what waypoint it spawns near) – you can do world boss events each day, which is a strong source of rares (you’re guaranteed at least one rare from each world boss). You can then turn around and sell them, and use the money to buy rares that you do need (you can buy most rares on the Trading Post for around 40-90 silver and sell your average rare drop instantly for around 33-36 silver).

Or words to that effect.

For this sort of content consider using scepter/focus for ranged attacks. Guardian staff is good against multiple opponents at once, but does very little damage against an individual target. Scepter on the other hand is only a single target weapon, but does decent damage. Also, you have the number 3 skill which chains an opponent and is quicker to cast than the line of warding.

I stand somewhere between those two opinions. Yes, content should be for everyone. But content should be learning experience. Targeting zone of proximal development and improving character’s performance. There are 80 levels in game and each one should be personal improvement. Sadly, here, some of the players stay… undeveloped… since game doesn’t encourage them to improve. It is known that GW2 is focusing on casual players, but in my opinion the bar is set way to low.

I appreciate what they are trying to do with new content (talking bout statue fight, not open world events) but it is still work in progress and far from great.

Anyways, that’s just my opinion…

so in your opinion we should never ever see hardcore dungs , raids for exp ppl which requires much coop ? maybe when i was growing up i was playing games which required skill ,focusing and understanding of your mistakes not just cutscene games full of run forward beeing immortal to see another cutscene . I really loved pve in this game when I was doing Liadri , i was such a great fight , I even did this light achi and when I was doing fractals over level 50 . OH god it was amazing I could spend there 2 hours and didnt finish it !! It was just amazing I felt really OP when I hit fract lvl 80 just like a god of PVE standing above all noobs runing just cof or world events right now PVE for me is really really dead . I just speedrun few paths per day for gold(during eating my dinner its rally true) becasue I want to finish my 4th legendary and then I only play pvp,www because there is absolutly no challenge in pve , you can do everything with pug party found in 5 sec in LFG . Thinking that there is no place in game for harder content in long therm is gona kill this game , people will be bored really quickly and they will quit this game for another mmo where is some challenge

EDIT look at game called destiny . it is some kind shooting mmo and devs said that there are gona be really though raids and there wont be lfg for them becasue you should find your own group !

^^ that’s the thing, anyone can do fractals, its not gated, the content is the same regardless of the difficulty level so that all players can partake… however, it does get harder, each level is more difficult, more challenging… that same content, but it allows gw2 to appease casual and hard core players alike, because it is not gated in a sense that if you are not skilled enough you don’t get to do it period, but rather, those of each skill level have a place to fall in and do the same content, but feel challenged if they wish. you also spoke of learning… well, I feel that the progressive levels of fractals do just that, forcing you to get better each time if you wish to pass the next level.

I do not see how this fight could be difficult. Even as doing it solo.

Avoid orange circles and keep away from the purple orb. You won’t get downed, get knocked down, get feared, and whatever else. All that leaves left is the chill which can be removed by a simple condition removal that every class has access to.

You can attack the statue from the sides and not have to worry about anything except perhaps the orb. The menders come at the statue far enough a part that you should be able to kill one and take a good chunk out of the statue before the next enters the room. When the statue becomes invulnerable, kill ghosts. I think it takes about seven ghosts but then I wasn’t counting.

For those struggling, unfortunately they don’t release these instance in Easy, Normal, or Hard mode. However, the content is very very reasonable in the amount of damage that you need to do as well as the skill level required.

It wasn’t overly hard in my opinion, I found it quite easy actually… But im also a zerk warrior so it took no time to dps the menders or the statue down

If I were to try on my mesmer, who I hardly play, I would have problems, because I don’t know the class’ skills and traits as well.

OP already mentioned he beat it on his ranger, so I don’t see a problem with it. If the content should be designed so I can beat it on all my lvl 80 characters without learning to play them somewhat properly, it wouldn’t feel right either.

The achievements are harder, but it’s good they give you an incentive to group up to do those. Story should be solo-able and it really is in this state.

absolutely zero problem doing this on my mesmer last night. I used a GS and sword/pistol power build with traits set to optimise phantasms.

Try using a build that is not shatter for a change… much more fun to play.

I found it hard as a Mesmer to stop the healers. So I mostly stayed in the spawn room and took out the healers in there. Also it’s easier to dodge the floating balls in there as they soon time out. The NPCs do a grand job of attacking the statue.

I personally found the Fort Salma fight from the last living story much more annoying.

Honestly, Foefire Cleansing was the only interesting instance this release to me, I found interacting with Scruffy a bit clumsy, and there was little actual fighting unless going for Leave No Survivors.

Some tips: Take a ranged weapon, so you don’t have to constantly run around the room. CC and slows are your friend for the menders, which seem to be made of paper anyway. If you don’t want to deal with kiting the spectral flames, simply dodge through it – if you time it right, it’ll go off and you’ll evade the explosion.

Other than that, simply pray a rockfall smaller AoE doesn’t spawn on top of you, or a fearward (I was feared for like 15 seconds when one did this…), and it really shouldn’t be too challenging for anyone.

I went into it totally cold without any clues from the internet. I was confused for a couple minutes as I learned how the fight mechanics worked.

Then, I figured it out. The NPCs are perfectly capable of taking down the statue by themselves as long as I prevent the heal. Take out the fear fields with ranged attacks and let the spirit ball pop on a minion or yourself between killing the healers. I ran my Necro main. No stability and one minion, FG, to use as bait and a battering ram when I had a chance.

It was a good puzzle. Not too hard but engaging at the same time.

You can always wipe and retrait, too, if you think your current traits are not the best.

Just out of curiosity, did you pay attention to what the NPC’s were saying? I went into it without looking for help online or otherwise too, and I didn’t find anything unclear.

The only mechanics you need to be aware of are that the menders heal, and the sword needs to be charged when the statue is invulnerable. Both things are not only voiced, but expressed in either the mob portrait picture, or the event description in the upper right. They even introduce you to the whole fight with the concept that the sword needs slain ghosts to function.

Not trying to sound overly critical or harsh here, apologies if I come off as such, but it just doesn’t seem like a ‘puzzle’ to me.

Yes, I was listening to the NPCs. At first, I just charged the statue an was busy being tossed around. Then, I noticed the menders I kept hearing about and found the spirit ball and fear fields were annoying. After working out that I had to take care of the stability problems, the fight was straightforward.

But no, seriously, this fight is hilariously easy and nobody with a functioning nervous system should have trouble with it once the simple mechanics (which don’t even count above 1 hand) are known. Nobody is bragging about being great. One of my guildies is one of the worst players I’ve ever seen, and even he managed to do it on his Mesmer with little trouble.

I’m genuinely scared that we will never get content that is actually complex or difficult if this is the kind of standard we have to work with. OH MY GOD I CAN’T STAND STILL AND MASH 1, WHAT DO. GG ANET. vomits profusely

Also, what on earth is this overabundance of CC people are whining about? There are glowing orange circles to tell you what to avoid. Stability isn’t even needed…

I think the main reason for people thinking it’s a DPS check is that they assume you have to kill the menders to make the statue vulnerable, and during every 25% phase they spawn repeatedly as soon as you kill them until the NPC charges the sword. I thought it was glitched until the 2nd time when I heard the NPC say ‘hold on gotta charge this’.

Yes, great guys. Rather than try and be helpful and make suggestions as to how to work things we get “you’re just a bad player.”

For me, I got the shield down but keeping those menders out was a pain. Using the barrier on staff for my guardian helped a little, but those kitten ed menders. There’s no good flow to the fight and unlike Salma, which at least Jory and Kas were backing you up you have to keep running between door and statue.

Plus there doesn’t seem to be a way to end the other ghost like taking out the vines removed some of the damage ability. It’s frustrating, and to hades with the the whole “bad player syndrome”. Sorry I play for fun, not frutration

OP did not come here to ask for advice, but to whine – hence the reaction he gets seems fitting. But in my opinion, Anet should just tone down the difficulty of the whole game to Shatterer already. The playerbase of GW2 is horrible and utterly clueless, but in that, just a good representation of the market. So Anet should just go where the money is, autoattack content 100%, even that will be too hard for quite a lot of GW2´s players.

Most of the important things have already been brought up. I genuinely hope ArenaNet does not water down content in order to accomodate 1-mashing, otherwise they might as well turn every fight into Zhaitan and get rid of dodging from the game.

Furthermore, calling this “horrible” just because it is challenging, is technically incorrect. Does that mean Mega Man is “horrible” because that game is also challenging? What about Gradius III for the Super Nintendo? Super Mario Bros. 2 The Lost Levels? Are those games horrible too?

Oh, those games aren’t RPGs? Okay, here’s an RPG example: Lunar the Silvar Star Story Complete. Defeating Ghaleon is a pain in the kitten there, and the game didn’t hold your hand.

Want an MMO example? Okay. Guild Wars 1. Did that game hold your hand through Gate of Madness? Hour long Personal Story instance, where if you died, you had to go back to the start of it all, then you had to successfully defeat the 2 final bosses of the first two campaigns at the same time. DEAL WITH IT! Does that make Guild Wars 1 a horrible game too?

Since when was there ever an expectation of always “being able to see the story” otherwise something is horrible? Does that mean they should suddenly nerf Arah and Giganticus Lupicus so that people could learn about the Seers and Bloodstones?

Look, above all else, you can argue something is challenging. But don’t call it “horrible” just because it’s difficult. That’s like saying Touhou is a bad game just because it’s hard?

Yeesh, kids these days are waaaay too spoiled by Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and emulator savestates. Back in my day, gamers didn’t complain as much.

I didn’t have trouble with this fight (I’m also an experienced gamer) but sometimes I go into story quests as a way to relax and not give a kitten – it’s one of the few areas of the game where I know that my playing ability has no effect on other players, so I can kitten around and the only person who loses out is me.

Go figure, being the kind of player I am, I usually end up trying hard anyway. But the point is, MMOs have varied types of content and “wanting to see the story” without an epic challenge involved every step of the way is not automatically an indication of someone who isn’t skilled at video games.

Those who are referencing dungeons or saying that most players just suck are missing the point. Dungeons are designed for groups; story quests are not. And the fact is, you might be amazing at video games, but if you truly are (and it’s not just a perception mishap) then congratulations, you’re part of a small percentage of the MMO demographic.

MMOs are massive games by definition and they thrive on having a large playerbase. That means you’re inevitably going to get a lot of players whose skill level is not high. You should not only expect that, but you should also expect developers to prioritize the needs of the majority over the needs of the minority. It’s just business.

I think in the case of this particular fight, it’s silly to argue over how difficult it is; the fact is, most people who I’ve seen post in this thread have indicated no major difficulty with it and those who are struggling have the option to ask for help from friends or the community.

What we should be talking about is whether the fight is enjoyable. That strange word “fun” is what games are supposed to be about, after all. And for my own part, the experience was sort of fun but it was also tedious and I hate losing control of my character (fear) in any game.

Or words to that effect.

You can criticise and put me down as much as you like, I don’t really care. I don’t have to prove myself to any of you or justify my playstyle, but you’re missing my point.

I’m not saying this boss is difficult, the only difficulty here has been artificially inflated, by spamming you with CC’s. Like LordOverload says, I play games to have fun and being constantly treated like a football in this game is extremely disrespectful of the player and not fun at all.

I really thought Anet learnt from Orr about taking it easy on CC’s and they seem to as they reduced it there, but in the past year or so, they’ve returned to CC mentality with a vengeance and I really, really hate it. It does not represent fun or challenging gameplay at all, just extreme annoyance.

Edit: I had a friend help me out and it was much easier with the 2 of us but it shouldn’t be required.

How is he difficult, you can avoid all cc and kill him pretty quick, and i fought him in melee range. You have doges and you can move. If you stand in those big red circles, yes you will be knocked down, surprised? On top of that you can use stuff like stability and condi removal for the chill.

Bosses are meant to be approached with strategy and not just afk while pressing 1. The tells are very obvious. At this rate anet should switch to movie making to satisfy you -_-.

It was a fun (and too easy) encounter. Some people just need to L2P…
Its ok to say “i find it hard and i could use some help learning” or telling anet “plz nerf the game until it becomes a movie, bcz its too much of a hassle playing”

i dont understand some people in this thread. So much complaining because you cant stand in a corner and 1111111 the boss to zero…OH WAIT YOU CAN. i literally stood behind him and blasted him down on all 8 of my lvl 80 characters .(some of wich arent even geared properly) every once in a while i had to swap to my rifle/scepter/other pew pew stick and zap a mender or other random ghost but i basically just stood in the same place all fight for like 5 mins until the fight ended. There was literally no skill required. i literally scratch my head at this thread. All i see is people who cant be bothered to read the event at the right of there screen and listen to the npc’s who literally handhold you through these LS boss fights. I enjoyed this content for its depth but challenging is definately not what this is for hell my youngest brother figured this stuff out without any help and had it done in 15mins….

In case you are referring to the run, where your friend helped you out: it’s normal that there are more enemies and such. The instance scales with the number of players.

You people have twisted my thread into: “this fight is too hard/easy”, when my main gripe with it was overuse of CC’s and being disappointed by the increasing trend of its use in the game in general.

But w/ever.

I asked about this overuse of CC.. as in what overuse? Stay out of orange circles, kite the orbs… it’s all made clear how to avoid it I thought.

You get this every time. The people bragging about how great they are. More likely its how overpowered their class most likely is.

Yeah, when I said I did this and all corresponding achievements on my necro, I was totally bragging about OP PvE Necro. All that stability, protection, vigor and retaliation.. right? right?!
