She said no such thing. What she said was that the map that we saw leak in China would never be implemented into the game. And technically she was right, as this map was built from the ground up. This is not the same map that was leaked in the chinese client.

The transition from underwater to land combat needs some work too. The quaggan that you escort on the northern route stops and is ambushed by enemies right where you transition between the two. I ended up failing the escort because I kept switching back and forth when trying to attack them. Actually, I went into that limbo where you’re underwater but have no skills.

But GW2 has the best underwater experience I’ve had in an MMO.

Speak for yourself. I – and I know many others – love underwater combat (and exploration even more so) in GW2. It has kinks, but it isn’t the 3D positioning or controls that’s the main problem.

The main problem is the skill and trait balance, the lack of switching traits between above/underwater, and the lack of skills/weapons options.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Agreed, for the most part. I do enjoy the exploration that UW gives and moving around isn’t half as bad as people like to complain, but the combat itself does need a lot of tweaking.
And they need to start giving us at least a few need skins for UW weapons, this is getting fricking annoying.

It might surprise you, but … I love it to! I really, really hope we get a substantial underwater story section, or even expansion! My favorite places in WoW were the underwater zones from Cataclysm. I really enjoy getting down under the water in GW2 as well, and I’m glad there is still underwater content being released.

I also recognise that for most people, the 3D nature of the environment is a significant part of the problem, and that it is a hard problem to solve. I actually spent some time talking to people actively trying to solve this, even, because I was curious to know.

Yes, skills could use some improvement, and so could switching, but at heart the issue is that for most people the positioning of enemies in the 3D environment is a significant problem, as is range estimation, and to a smaller degree, movement.

If that was solved — you had mostly enemies not-too-far off the horizontal plane — life would actually be much better.

Underwater combat may not be fine-tuned as much as the rest of combat. But it’s just fine, quite frankly. Underwater combat is better in this game than most other MMOs. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. And the developers being embarrassed about it is just silly.

Hiding from underwater content is also not particularly useful either.

I’m fine with the drained lake for now. But continuing to hide from underwater content just because the devs feel insecure about it isn’t going to be a great move in my opinion.

Agreed. Underwater combat is actually fundamentally a good system which was never sufficiently supported to reach its full potential. It needs to automatically change traits when you go underwater (so you’re not stuck with useless traits), and skills that don’t work underwater need to be given alternatives so that certain professions aren’t crippled by the loss of key utility skills while underwater.

It’s particularly jarring with revenant in particular. Only having one underwater weapon I can understand, given how late in the design process they were given weaponswapping capability, although I think it could be split into two. The restricted legends, on the other hand, is more serious, and I don’t think there’d actually need to be much done to make the other legends work. Jalis and Glint, for instance, each only have a single skill that would be problematic underwater, and I can see easy ways to adjust both. Ventari might be a bit more complicated but, I think, doable: worst case scenario, they can just have the tablet stick to the player, although I do have some ideas as to how the tablet might be able to be controlled underwater.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
