We’ve seen Flame Legion, Nightmare Court, the new(ish) Aetherblades, Dredge…
All factions in this lengthy Living Story thread.
And now, Inquest. Woot.

So where are the Svanir in all this? Or any other antagonist Norn? Why is our only proper Norn representative in LS2…. Brahm? Nice guy, kinda dumb, big.
Like every other Norn in the game. Ergo, boring and noninfluential.

Why isn’t there a rogue group of Norn following Raven or some other “witty” totem doing something much more menacing. Or at least a better-plotted Svanir that actually contribute to Season 2.

The Norn are there, writers, waiting to be made interesting. Hop to it.

Many alts; handle it!

The second in command of the Aetherblades was a Norn.

LS2 started one week ago, we have had a grand total of 1 release, I would say it is a bit early to complain about lack of Norns already (keep in mind that the first half year of LS1 was more or less focused on the Norn).

Putting Sons of Svanir into the story right now just for the sake of putting them in would be silly. We will see them sooner or later (at the very latest when we move towards Jormag) but adding them without any real reason would probably hurt the story more than just leaving them out for now.

Because we are moving into the western areas of Tyria, which is historically Asuran territory. The Norn territory was North and the Charr held the eastern areas. It makes sense now for us to be running into Inquest now. That’s where they live.

Once the living story heads north towards where the Hall Of Monuments is on the map, that’s the time to expect to see the Sons of Svanir and their story.

While it makes less sense to tell a lot about them indeed they had a tiny role in the past.
Both LS season is currently about sylvari and they had a major role against Zhaitan.
Asura are just a plot device to magicaly solve everything, which i find utterly lame.
Charr are for manpower and technology, same as humans.
And norns … yeah, nothing fancy, just walking meatshields and Humour Herolds.

But the day will come when they can shine!

The Sons of Svanir are servants of Jormag, it wouldn’t make any sense for them to be in the story.

There have been plenty of Norn characters involved, there just isn’t a dedicated Norn organisation – but nor has there been a dedicated Human, Charr or Sylvari organisation involved, but the Aetherblades have members from all of the races.

Why would Svanirs care anything at all about Mordremoth? They serve Jormag’s purpose and the EDs do not have allegiances to one another.

Yess make Norn interesting =D. I really liked the Norn parts in the gw2 novels, especially their use of animal forms and the shamanistic side of things. There is much more to Norn society than brute force and ego and I think it should be explored more. The idea of Norn adventurers way out of their element (much like the real world ancient northern people) is really intriguing to me.

You’ll get enough svanirs to last you a lifetime once the LS moves on to Jormag after Trahearne cough-cough kills Mordremoth (and Bubbles and the rest of the bunch, it all depends on the order they want to have Trahearne kill the dragons off).

Y’know, I don’t even like the Svanir. A few people kinda missed the point and hooked onto that. I just want the Norn to be interesting in game.

There’s a lot of potential to make them something other than oversized dwarves or “the one lone dudebro admist the tacofest,” but that’s a different argument. =P

We’ll get that once Jormag is ready to be trahearned. They will most likely open up areas northward in order for us to get to Jormag’s crib and watch Trahearne do his thing. But most Norn settlements will have been destroyed by the icebrood and svanirs, I think. I sure hope we get to visit Gunnar’s Hold or the Eye, though… Even as far north as the ancient Kodan lands? Mmmm…

what if a clan of norn found a way to survive and even build their own city, maybe they found a kind of magic that shields them from jormag’s might and destroys any corruption in a norn ones entering. (so the sons of svanir ether die or are clean from jormag’s influence)

their city could be where jora’s original home ones was (when you do blood washes blood mission), a strange artifact was found there and ones a shaman of bear tried her magic a shield formed big enough to build a city in.
i have somewhat a design in my mind (kinda vague but it’s building up), this city looks more like an advanced norn civilization with huge buildings and some modernized norn who do jobs as small as cleaning up the streets.
not as advanced as what we have but it’s a mixture of norn and asura tech, even the golems are made differently then what you see in rata sum or what the inquest has.

i can go on but that would derail the threat way to far, it’ll take to long to write everything down on a forum post.

@Sorudo, that’s a little Deus Ex Machine – it doesn’t make for good story, especially if those Norn didn’t even consider sharing their knowledge with all of their fellow Norn who they watched suffer at the hands of Jormag – doesn’t make sense. Also why would it have a mix of Norn and Asuran architecture? Why would there be Asura there?

When an Elder Dragon comes you don’t stay and try and figure out a way to avoid being corrupted and killed, you run – hence why all the Norn ran south.

You’re right, I had forgotten. The area to the west there was actually more like centaur lands back then.

However if you look at the map http://zoom.it/cw31d Rata Sum is right under the Dry Top area. It wouldn’t be surprising if Asurans, especially the Inquest, have moved north and west of the city. Maybe the Inquest and the Centaur tribes there have allied against the other races.

how can they share when there is no one to share with, the only norn there were at the time were the left overs.
also, what’s wrong with a group of exiled asura, what if this group traveled all the way to the far northern siverpeak because they thought no one can disturb them, finding this dome and eventually helped the norn build their city as it is now.

like i said before, i can continue the story but it’s gonna take more then the limit a threat can take and i don’t want to waste my time writing everything down when Anet will never add it.

Deus Ex Machina is a latin term that translates literally into ‘god from the machine’ (presumably this relates to why the game has that name, though I’ve never played it either and wouldn’t know) and it is a term commonly used in reference to novels, films, television and games when something is introduced that shows little regard to what else has happened in the story and seems like a super uncreative way to make something happen. Basically something happening for the sake of something happening without there being a good reason. Randomly deciding that some Norn for some bizarre reason weren’t chased out of the far north by Jormag (which is not possible, how would they have avoided him when the rest of the Norn and Kodan weren’t able to) and chucking in some Asuran exiles is deus ex machine, there is no logic for how or why that would have happened.
