So far I’m liking the living story. I enjoyed most of the events and actually visiting Southsun since the Ancient karka event.

But, I also noticed the lack of Skill point challenges, heart quests and vistas. I’m sure a tropical paradise island could have had a few vistas. And the renown hearts and skill challenges really makes any new map fit in better with the rest.

I think if ANet ever adds more maps like these, it should add to the World Completion in all of the aspects.

PS: Yeah I know this is not the most pressing issue, but I thought I would mention it regardless.

heart quests im going to say no since the orr areas(cursed shore.malichors leap and straights) dont have them but the other two yes they could use a few of those to make it complete

I feel both Southsun and Orr could and should have heart quests.

Southsun already has some amazing views, and I do with they came with vista points

I wouldn’t say Southsun feels incomplete, I would say it feels ‘experimental’, as if it’s an island away from a little of the norm, for ANet to get a general idea of the direction they possibly want to go in in future.

Yea felt very incomplete without proper locations for world completion, they should finish it as a side project while taking the living story elsewhere.

Add a few vistas (should be easy, there are nice views out there), a few skill challenges and ‘maybe’ hearts, make it count for future world completion. As it is now, even after the event, without vistas and skill challenges it will always have this “uncompleted” feeling.

I don’t really mind the lack of heart quests in Southsun / Orr. There tend to be more events to make up for the lack, and given the general lack of people and the fact that settlements / bases are constantly under attack, there wouldn’t be many places where you could put heart quests anyway.

I definitely wish there were some skill challenges, more POI’s, and some vistas in Southsun though. Vistas especially, the views would be spectacular in places like the Driftglass springs. And the lack of those things really makes Southsun feel lackluster compared to other zones.

Southsun is just a bad zone. It’s not up to the standards of the rest of the game, all the mobs there are just annoying to fight and I personally hate the zone so badly that it forced me to just skip the Southsun LS entirely. It seems that most people feel the same way and I’d be willing to bet that this LS had just a tiny portion of the participation seen in the last LS, probably by a very large margin.

I just pretend Southsun doesn’t even exist and pray that any future zone expansion will be nothing like this mini-zone.

Bad, bad, bad.

The explanation for Orr was that there were very very few stable ally NPCs in Orr, since it’s portrayed as a war zone.

As for Southsun, it is admittedly a small map – and wouldn’t need 8-10 hearts, just a few. Some of the stuff I’ve been doing in Southsun already feels somewhat heart-like… examples:

  • Sand pit heart: Assist Advisor Zakk
Find golem parts, kill mosquitos (for when the quest isn’t up) (but when is it ever not up)
  • Research camp heart: Assist Researcher Levvi
Ping local flora (additional flowers can be added to the area for this)
Protect the area around the camp from karka
  • Owain’s refuge heart: Assist Owain
    Kill karka
Gather karka eggs (when quest is up) (all the time)
Collect some spice from local bushes
  • Non-combat activity at Captain’s Retreat
The tourist beach needs some sort of activity (I imagine Faren and Kasmeer leaving) – maybe serving drinks to tourists, as a change from the “kill this, gather that” type of heart activities.

As for vistas, so many amazing spots are out there – from individual vents in the driftglass area to cliffsides to some of the higher-up straw huts. I like climbing onto things so I think I’ve already climbed a lot of the cliffs just to be able to look down.

Whilst there would certainly be ways to add content, it raises the question what happens to existing / new players.

Do you immediately strip all players of the completion achievement until they also complete the new areas, or do you only expect new players to have to complete much more content before they get an achievement that older players had for doing less.

If you were to add new content in several areas at once then it could become a new achievement of some sort and that may be the only fair way to make it work.

They already solved that question when they added new PoIs to existing areas like Lions Arch or Orr.

If you have zone completion you do not lose it, if you have map completion you do not lose it. If you dont already have that area completed you do need those new marks to attain map completion.

I consider that a perfectly fine solution, erring on the side of the less complicated solution of not worrying about ‘spilt milk’.

It can be argued thakittens unfair towards people completing the zone at a later time. But anyone seriously bringing up that argument would be nitpicking, because while working to complete a zone and get even 5 PoI/vistas more comes down to a couple of minutes more.
