Toypacolypse Without Party System, Again
Be careful what you say here, as I found out,
I spoke to a few people ingame who have played the game since pre release the same as me, and they said it makes no sense the reply given, as you can enter PvP with teams, they found it more bizarre given its PvE content, them like others are now concerned that going forward making parties will be a thing of the past, and we’ve had no reassurance this is not the case, im afraid going forward the only way to get the point across for me will be to abandon buying any gems or anything from the gem store,
This should have been tested long long before this update went live, and they should have known how unpopular it would be when they make it that friends/family cannot play together, it seems like a step backwards.
The PvP excuse is lame. This chould be made as a dungeon, not as an activity, since the change was “necessary”. Again, something we did not want, we do not like, but that is now something usual it seems….
Hmm, I believe the vast majority of the player base feels the same. I was so psyched to get the patch when I got home. Soon as I tried taking my close friends/guildmates into Toypocaplyse and got the nasty surprise of random PUG activity hot join, my enthusiasm I had for this entire holiday season got smashed. To be honest this had to be the biggest disappointment to date, even worse was it took less than 5 min for my joy to shatter. I more than likely will not bother with the festivities at all this year in GW2.
The holidays are meant to be spent with friends and family, not some random person who can and more than likely will end up giving you grief your not looking to acquire this holiday season. I’ll try my best to look forward to next Wintersday….although I am now making sure I set the bar excessively low. Until then I guess I won’t be on GW2 much, no real point to play it until the next LS2 drops now.
Only one more disappointment from Anet in a long row.
It wont kill my life, but pushes me a little bit further away from the game.
I have always hated that i can’t play activities with my friends, but it seems like they don’t care about it anymore
Please fix at least for next year. Friends and I spent a good 15 mins flashing in and out hoping to meet up… it never happened but we noticed others doing THE SAME EXACT THING. Same names flashing in and out. Has Anet Issued me these new friends to compensate for my other friends?

Every time a new activity is released, the feedback has been the same… allow us to go in with a roster / with our party and play with or against our friends and guildies.
The PvP excuse makes no sense at all – as, obviously, in PvP you always could create a roster, which now has been replaced with your party.

Why does every new patch introduce 10 or more bugs/ downgrades from existing functionality/content? I dont get it.
This is rather disappointing… First year that I’d be able to really enjoy the Wintersday events and it seems like I can’t do anything with a party. I skipped most of the Labyrinthine Cliffs events when I couldn’t join with a party and I will likely do the same if it is so with the Wintersday events. Again, very disappointing that they made this decision. Even more-so with the responses concerning the change.
If they’re using the same system as PvP (which is dumb) for Toypocolypse, why can’t we queue up and join together as a group? Why must I be forced to play with randoms and dropped into a half-finished or nearly over game?
This sucks. It is stupid.
Also… I’m very unimpressed with Wintersday. Once I get my achievements, I’m done. There is nothing fun to me that’s worth me repeating for the sake of it. I enjoyed doing Toypocalypse with friends for the rewards, but not anymore!

Guess no more Toypocalypse anymore for me.
The achivement for that is an infinite one. I dont do them anyway.
Shame, I was looking forward to it.
Stupid decision

Incoming Quaggans [iQ]
already ded gaem, killing toypocalypse is just kittenting on the people that had any respect for this company.
Warning, incoming wall of text!
I feel like I need to air my concerns as well. This isn’t some effort to “rally the troops” against ANet or anything of the sort but more that I want to try and convey why this worries me in the hope that whoever was responsible might have a better idea as to what the issue is. Just to note, these concerns come from someone with experience of working on MMOs. I only say this to try and get across that, while I don’t know ANets inner workings, I do have a good understanding of how iterative development on a live product works.
The reason given that necessary PvP changes meant that Toypocalypse had to be broken doesn’t really sit with me. I don’t deny that the PvP system has likely had some serious overhaul done to it and for the better, PvP is really looking up and I appreciate the changes made here. The problem I have is that since launch it has been a well known issue that having activities use the PvP system for matchmaking isn’t the best idea. This isn’t something new and last year an effort was made to try and rectify the problem (for Toypocalypse at least) to great success. The question that arises here is why was the functionality that was put in to allow activities to perform in a much better way not deemed important to preserve as part of the PvP rewrite? This for me is what is worrying. A change that was made for the better and one that was received well by the playerbase was not given priority when it came to revamping the underlying systems. Someone, somewhere, made the call that activities aren’t important enough to warrant the extra overhead it would take to cater for them to be properly supported alongside other content.
Now I would put money on the actual devs involved in this made it very clear to whatever management didn’t allow the time for this to be addressed that this would not fly well with the players and it wasn’t a good idea. I get that deadlines a tight when you are working to a release schedule, but this was Christmas. It happens every year, the release schedule for this year was likely put together some 12 months back and yet no time was given to consider if the content that was intended to be recycled would be affected by the years changes.
I’m not expecting any admission of fault, nor am I looking for one. I’m just trying to make it clear how when devs say “this will matter to the players” that the higher ups NEED to listen. I’ve had my fair share of experiencing this first hand and it’s the most frustrating thing. If nothing else I hope that a disgruntled developer sees this and feels a bit better knowing that there’s someone on their side

The missing party system for toypacolypse really disappointed me and my guildies ready to jump in together.
The reason for this change tho given by Gaile Gray in the forum’s bug section really scared me!!!
I am a professional software developer since the days of the the last millenium – I do not work on games, but at the end of the day code is code and software design principles apply to any piece of software.
I really thought about how pug grouping could ever be resposible for the stabilization
of pvp and activities. It just did not make any sense to me …
unless somebody effed up something in the first place and/or you are dealing with a big spaghetti code monster.
It reminds me of the legacy code i had to work on for a client about 10 years ago. You would fix one bug (after hours of digging through spaghetti) and another totally unrelated bug would appear.
Now I refuse to believe that the same guys that created something awesome as the gw2 dual server build system would create a bowl of spaghetti code that behaves that way.
Please, Anet, for the sake of of Martin Fowler’s beard do not tell me when you´d drop premade groups entirely, we´d have no server and client crashes at all anymore.
On the other hand, I´d take hourly client crashes any day, when we could do every activity with premade groups. honestly!
I tryed for 30min to do the achievements for Toycapolypse.
2 Disconnects
23 players who join and leave
11 players who do nothing (kicked after a while)
Working great, much better than last year where i join with friends, do my achievements and have fun.
Much much better…..
Its not fun doing stuff like this by myself, teamwork content u have to do with randoms, such sense.
Yep, without a party-system, Toypacolypse is just a waste of time. And, since there are no party-based Wintersday activities beyond the story instance, there’s no Wintersday.
Why dont they start playing the game themselves to prefend these horrible decisions. Who the hell was waiting for this ‘fix’ for toypocalypse? I find this one of the best mini games in there and they felt the need to ruin it.
I like to play Toypocalypse with friends at first Wintersday. We thinking together about different tactics, and have fun together. And now we cant play together. Why devs do activities, if I can’t enjoy them with my friends. Randoms not good..

Agree
I want be able to kick bad teamplayers from my Toypacoplise instance
This is just kitten if someone start building stuff in random places, or running around and pew-pew and no building completely.
If they wanna learn how to play there – let’s learn somewhere else, I’m not free teacher.
Seafarer’s Rest (EU): Liicher (Engi), Lii Cher (Warrior), Swf (Elem),
Licharr (Guard), Lich Eir (Ranger), Alt Fh (Thief). Lii Cherr (Mesm), S Wf (Necr)
This is unbelievably crappy and lazy; it’s clear they don’t care. Pathetic when you can join pvp as a party, and there’s nothing wrong with that other game too….
At least make the achieve easier to get so people won’t be annoyed when I come in for it.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
What’s sad is that year 1 of wintersday was better than year 2 or 3.
