Same thing happened to me. they bug out and disappear. I followed the advice of the others on here and just stayed near a spawn point for the minion/wolves. when a wolf appeared I started attacking it and it died before the minion could be killed. I also killed the vines right away as they never respawn (at least for me). the southern most minion/wolf stopped appearing after Jory and Kas disappeared though, so I just moved to the next wolf. Took awhile but was able to kill the boss with a Staff Mesmer and my clones.

This is a horrible boss fight!

Edit

Well that did it for me. I’m not gonna bother with it, it’s too boring and frustrating and takes waaaaayyyy too long.

And yea, Kas Marj are nowhere to be seen gg.

It’s a shame that this fight ruins for the most part a great story so far, i really don’t know what they’ve thinking with this fight, it’s totally unfun!

100% RIGHT

It’s good to see other feel exactly the same about this horrible, miserably designed mission. I thought risen and sarka were annoying these plant dragon mobs are even worse. Let’s give big, standing mobs massive damage melee strikes a spam-cc do you can’t dodge . Let’s give the dogs goes ridiculous leaps so they can swarm characters. (I don’t remember the names of this lousy mobs and frankly I wish I’d never seen them) ArenaNet just keeps getting worse and worse when it comes to their mob ideas.

And that just makes the bugs like Kasmeer and Majory not helping at -all- in the final boss fight stand out even more (then ONLY thing that made the earlier parts of the mission even mildly tolerable was that the NPCs were dedicated to raising your character when they died to these ridiculous mobs)

I remember when karka first came out, they were annoying, pointless and stupidly overpowered. They were nerfed for a reason. These new plant mobs will need have the same done to them and in the meantime we get to slough through their rotten mechanics until ArenaNet figures is out like they always have had to repeatedly in the past.

And ArenaNet’s mission design continues to go downhill with as this new story progresses, becoming even more boring and lacking anything resembling fun. I thought the sylvari boss of the first chapter was tedious with terrible mechanics but the boss of this chapter is 100x worse.

And even before the boss, there’s the arrowcart sequence where you have mobs swarming your character and repeatedly killing you as you try to fire on the mobs attacking the gate. Yeah that’s lots of fun. You only pop back up if you get lucky enough for some of the mobs die from the arrows and if that’s intended then that’s an even more wretched and poor design.

The ‘instructions’ you’re given right before the boss just as the fight starts with NPCs talking over each other is clear as dirt. And the mechanics themselves have all the charm of a bad escort quest that you have to do over and over and over.

The worst part is that I want to see the story. The story is interesting and getting me to log back in.

These rotten, tedious, horribly designed missions, on the other hand, are enough to ruin any enjoyment I get out of the story. Now even if I decide to slough through these terrible mission again just get to the end of this chapter, it will leave such a bad taste in my mouth I can’t imagine I’ll get any enjoyment out of it.

ArenaNet can’t make these missions interesting, and they’re efforts to make them challenging result in them being tedious and annoying. The solution is simple. Make the story missions straightforward and simple. If people want complicated mechanics and challenges, they can redo it for the achievements with all the tedious, trumped up mechanics.. Gating the story by making difficult content just means you’re going to lose people who might have been willing to follow the story.

The thing that is unbelievable is that ArenaNet should understand this. They had Story Mode and Explorer Mode missions for the dungeons. Now they’ve just thrown that out the window and put out stuff like this. As much as I like the storyline if the missions continue to be like this, I’m not going to bother following the story at all.

If you’re having trouble with the boss fight (not counting bugs), you might want to consider looking at your gear and traits and changing them.

Can do it easily as zerker anything as long as you don’t stand in the boss’ bombs.

I reported the Majory/Kasmeer bug as both in game bug report and I let one of the devs know in game.

As to Soloing this horrible boss battle…

I’ve played this with every profession and found that it is hardest to solo with an Elementalist along with a SB/DD Thief coming in second. I had to find help for the boss fight with those two. I tried to solo with these two until my armor was broken before I got help.

As to the other professions:

My Necromancers were able to do the job quickly. One is set up as a Carrion Terrormancer and the other is set up as a Celestial Terrormancer. Marks and Wells worked great. They went down at least once, but didn’t die.

My Mesmer, Warrior, Double Pistol Thief, and Guardian were able to solo the boss with only one death each.

My Ranger and Engineer were able to do this without dying nor going down.

The Engineer did the fight the fastest out of all of my characters. Ran healing, rifle, rocket, and net turrets along with the supply crate elite and spec’d out for juiced turrets and extra supplies.

KasJory also disappeared when I was doing it, but it’s ok, I befriended the bone minion. Together we have defeated the boss, then found the common ground (we both think MarjMeer suck donkey… tale) and left instance. We’re better of without them, anyway. The first norn/bone minion wedding next month!

Zerker staff ele is an easy, fast kill, and easier (thought not as fast) if you’re not trying for the achievement to not let the minions die.

Air can blind, knock back, and stun the hounds, Earth can immobilize and unsteady ground, Water can chill and heal minion. Plenty of tools to help the minion survive. Then once the minion is reaching the boss, start channeling Fire 5 just before the shield drops, and Fire 2 afterwards. Got it down in two shield drops.

Despite the arrow marker on the map, I actually find it far easier to approach the eastern arrowcart from the southern wall. Far less annoying jagged terrain, and only about 6 mobs in the way, which you don’t necessarily even need to fight.

I finished this on the first try. If you actually listen to Jory & Kasmeer talk, they’ll tell you exactly where to go (leading you to the arrow cart) and how to kill the end boss (protect the minion). If you ignore the story in favor of rushing through content, don’t be shocked when you’re lost on how things work.

I also had Jory & Kas disappear mid boss fight. Thankfully, the minions still spawned. Range it and L2D (learn to dodge).

On replaying this mission, I found that you can just rush up the northern stairs as soon as you enter the fort, and leave Marjorie and Kasmeer behind to rattle of their lines. With a bit of extra movement speed, you can be at the arrow cart before mordrem start spawning inside the fort.

I did it (for the third time) on my thief last night…testing out a build I found elsewhere on this forum, and got a pleasant shock. She survived better than either my mesmer or my warrior. Thieves’ Guild when the boss’ shield was down (every little bit helps, as the old lady said when she peed in the sea), constant dodging, blind on those pesky wolves, and condition damage. She got downed a couple of times, but overall her performance was much better than the first two runs.

I discovered something else that others have mentioned; Marjory and Kasmeer will disappear whether you get downed or not. So whatever you do, don’t depend on them.

I just finished this terrible piece of content (My main is an elementalist, naturally the worst class for it seems. Wonderful how this content was so balanced.)

There was no sense of accomplishment or sense of enjoyment from beating it – I just felt like I finished a lousy work assignment that no one else would want to do and the only thing I felt was relief that I’ll never have to do it ever again.

To add to it, after that horribly designed fight I was so ticked off and frustrated that when the cutscene happened I didn’t a bloody SQUAT about it.

What should have been a dramatic moment of storytelling was left utterly ruined because I was still gritting my teeth over that needlessly and pointlessly drawn out boss fight.

The Kasmeer/Majory bug is still there and fixing this major bug might have made it acceptable but I doubt it. There should not have been any tentacle mobs, the dog mobs should not have continued to add as every minion comes along and the boss should have had a fraction of its hit points. Throw in all that for the people who want to spend their time doing this content multiple times for achievements. For those of us interested in the story, stop getting in the way of us seeing it.

This is bad design wrecking what should be a good story, and that’s not something I want to see in any game. This seems to be the trend for this Season of the Living Story and my interest of sloughing through content like this to see the story is plummeting rapidly. The one bright point is that it looks like the new chapters allow you to skip forward, I may do that – kitten continuity or proper presentation of the story if it means I can avoid content designed like this.

I understand I’m bumping an old topic, but I feel it’s justified.

This mission is still terribly bugged. I completed it on 2 characters with the following bugs:

- As soon as I die, Jory and Kasmeer vanish from the fight and respawn at their initial location.

- The final Mordrem boss randomly resets it’s health to a full bar.

On my 3rd character attempt, in addition to the two bugs listed above (both did happen) I encountered a couple more bugs:

- The combat sounds vanished leaving only the music (minor annoyance)

- After I killed the Mordem boss, the cut scene froze, leaving me stuck and unable to complete the instance, and forcing me to log out of the game to unfreeze it.

I have had everything go wrong with this mission. I’ve had -
-wolves hiding around corners, so that they can pounce on you before you even see where they are, even though you’re expecting to find them
- Kas + Marg returning to their spawn point, with AND without me dying.
- dodging and using swiftness to evade the red circles and try to get to the bubble shields only for the shield to disappear, swiftly followed by about ten red circles indicating incoming goop.
- minions no longer spawning.

It strikes me that Kas + marg aren’t very skilled in combat. I’ve been playing ele, but when I plasy mesmer, I aim my fields at targets, whether they are enemies or allies. The bubble shield in particular seems random.

Do I really have to select one of a limited numbr of well-researched “correct” loadouts in order to succeed at this game? It’s mostly rare/exotic gear, everything upgraded, and I even ate stuff beforehand.

Watching walkthrough videos has been annoying; it seems that all the people who make them have gear that would make Primordus soil himself.

I watched videos of this event with people fighting one wolf at the beginning. I go in and get four wolves each time.

Kasmeer and Marjory vanish part way during the last fight. Are they supposed to? If not, then why hasn’t this been fixed? If they are, then why were they there in the first place?

I doubt it was intended.

All allied NPCs go back to their starting position – even the Seraph you rescue outside the fort, and even the now-dead Belinda.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Yeah. Kasmeer and Marjory vanishing made this fight a lot more difficult solo than it should be. But if you party up with 4 other players, you’ll have a much easier time of it.

Finally got to trying this today myself. I didn’t have any problem doing damage to the boss, or staying alive, except that when one of the minions would die when I was trying to kill the wolf and suddenly jump past me and attack me from behind and do ridiculous damage even though I’d been facing it the whole time. But after the 2nd or 3rd bone minion to successfully reach the thrasher suddenly I could no longer get aggro off the minions or kill the wolves quick enough even starting as soon as they spawned for the minion to not die (minion walking through lots of red circles didnt help). cripple was useless as the wolf’s rush skill still outdistanced the minion easily even when the wolf was cripped. doing this as a SB thief. I gave up because I could never get the shield down to do any dmg to the boss. will try again later with friends.
