What makes you think it is random?
Based on hints dropped by the devs here and there it seems to be rather unrandom.

Screw the cools stuff from GW1 – its all about the twigs!

Disconnected seemingly random and unrelated events with absolutely zero plot cohesion.

Is that better?

Suddenly out of nowhere we have the TOXIC ALLIANCE! and then we’re going to defeat them, Scarlet is going to laugh at us via hologram, and we’ll repeat it in a month with the FROZEN ALLIANCE; Scarlet’s clever fusion of Jotun who want to rebuild their lost civilization and a xenophobic faction of zealot Kodan who want to eradicate the Norn who they see as lesser. Along the way we’ll meet up with Rox (still trying to get into Rytlock’s warband!) and Braham again, as well as be introduced to a new spunky asura character. We’ll defeat the Frozen Alliance, Scarlet will shake her fist at us, and we’ll be no closer to understanding what the kitten ArenaNet is doing.

I made a thread asking the same exact question. Got trolled, got told Scarlet is an amazing villain and worth our time, and gave up on trying to make any sense of it.

I’ve about had it with this plant.

You summed up the last 8 months of living story perfectly and even gave some great insight to the years ahead.

Seems like one of those movies where they have a handful of characters that they introduce separately, then they all get come together midway when the plot kicks in.

Difference is that a movie is 2 hours so we can handle 30 mins of disconnected plot.

Anet’s been doing this whole character/faction introduction thing for the last 10 months…

Made me laught at first, until I realized that I feel the same, which makes me sad. Either way, I know so many Players that are tired of the forced LS from GW2 that leaves them nothing but a bad feeling as they’re just doing it to not miss out on the AP and the Rewards those give. The Story feels so random and gets put out at a speed that most People would have difficulties with even when it would be written nice and connected. Especialy since there is still no way to relive old LS-Updates like for example when you didn’t have the time to attent them or when you want to reaffirm why you’re currently fighting a certain kind of enemies.

That goes for current LS-Updates as well. Having text here on the HP is nice and stuff, and we get a Mail but this just isn’t enought. You delete that Mail and it ’s gone forever. A System that one would think, should have their Top priority before any Balance-Changes and Gemstore-Additions …

It ‘s not like they haven’t experiemented with it a bit via some Items that take up a Bank slot and are playing back a Movie on usage – but those are inconsitently put out, take up Bank spaces, can be destroyed and don’t feel like they have been thought trought well.

Add a Bookshelf and create a Book for each Theme that gets filled as the Story progresses. That way you can have multiple Storys started at once that get continued later on and you see when it has been concluded or when it leaves space for one more thing. And more importantly, finish those Books. There is still the possibility of writing a Continuing Book, but there HAVE to be some Conclusions and bigger Endings / Cuts once in a while.

They might continue like that for another year, with a switching and jumpy Playerbase but when Games like EQN show up and deliver something better they’ll break in just like WoW did – or even more if they continue this Trend of a flat forced filler Story of AP- and Reward-Farming.

You deal with the remnants of the white mantle in a human PS chapter if you choose that you never knew your real parents (and also one of the best PS chapters). So you can strike that off the list.

That’s all I got though.
