story journal and season 1
From what I remember of season 1 (and I was busy too for most of it, so I missed a lot), they weren’t doing it as a personal story like they should have, which is a mistake they fixed with season 2… sorta. So the only way I could see them redoing those events is if they had a month where all those season 1 events were condensed.
Alternatively it would be neat to see the essence of those events recreated in fractals, like the Marionette Battle is something I wish I could have taken part in, but again real life beckons away from fun distractions, so that being a fractal would be perfect for me.
I’m going to disagree with your statement on the pay wall, considering the scope and cost of the game, I’d say an extra $2.50 for accessing old content out of sequence isn’t too bad.
There have been several large discussions on the topic, a good example with some developer interaction being found here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Any-progress-on-letting-us-replay-Season-1/first
Correct me if I am wrong, but I do recall a developer post stating that ANet are interested in making season 1 available through the story journal, but it would take a very long amount of time (Again, I may be mistaken in thinking this).
Especially with an expansion on the way, I wouldn’t expect to hear any mention of season 1 until several months after the expansion, perhaps more.

It’s a matter of available development resources (like actual developers). With the expansion coming out there seems to be certain things we can expect to not see until it’s release (such as any more living story content). And after the expansion is dropped they’ll probably reassigned their resources to the next project. So when they announced the new format (back at the start of S2) they stated that they had no one working on it, even though they’d like to have it available as well. Since then we’ve heard nothing on the S1 front.
They need to find time to do this, if for no other reason than because cohesiveness is important. It was their blunder to change the format of the story so dramatically for Season 1 instead of trying to build on top of the PS to begin with.
They also need to make some tweaks to the PS – remove the jarring dialogue cutscenes, emphasize some of the NPCs a little more, and bring back/expand on the Personality system.
yes season 1 was alot more fun than season 2, big open world battles with lots of enemies and interesting bosses that were like world bosses not the slow slug fest of 20 minute kills for the season 2 instanced fights (which dont even give any loot)
its content that requires hundreds of players tho, u cant have it to urself

I seem to remember everyone complaining about the zerg content! Granted we still have zerg content but because the content isn’t temporary (i.e. S1) there’s a limit to how much zerg content you can add (since you’ll eventually spread the player base too thin).
I read somewhere that they will try to port the content like they did for LS2, but that will need lots of reworking and is probably not a priority at ArenaNet. Maybe they will bundle it with HoT release? Who knows…
But consider LS2 as a DLC. Free for those who were playing, paid (though you can use gold to buy it) for those who were not there.
I really prefer this over the LS1 formula. Even if I had to buy episode from LS2 (with gold) because I missed it.
ArenaNet still needs to make money. You can still access all the open world content, but you won’t have access to the story instances and achievements. I find it pretty fair.
I missed a huge part of season 1, story is not clear now and confusing. I like GW game for its lore so it sadden me that am lost in story.
Cannot imagine how it is on a new player. Might be a reason to quit a game to be honest, at least I would if I weren’t here at first few months of season 1. And I will definitely do if they ever confirmed that it is not coming back.
Am sure there is away to bring it back. Will require adjustment am sure but I think it is possible
This should be one of their priorities.

It might well be a priority, however to change season 1 into something playable retrospectively would be a huge piece of work for them. Season 1 was utterly different to the way the PS and S2 is presented – think of it as a set of themed dynamic events that only worked with large numbers of people, but played in a specific order over a year. The scope incorporated the entire world, from random maps, an instanced tower (now destroyed), Southson and festival events. Oh and some dungeons as well. Not forgetting that The Battle for LA and Marionette could never be redone to the same justice as before.
To release it again would require re-writing a massively abridged version suitable for solo play. I’m sure it is doable, but it essentially would be writing new content. And with an expansion round the corner, that is going to be diffuclt for them to achieve.
I’d be very surprised if we ever see it, but hope we do – season 2 just doesn’t bridge the gap at all for new players. Even my alts who weren’t there for S1 feel out of place with the dialogue. It’s just a mess atm. And there is virtually no doubt they’d charge for it, especially considering the resources invested into remaking it.
