A confused player...
Dungeons start around level 30. When you’re close to that point you’ll get a letter in your mailbox nudging you that way.
Dungeons/instances start at Level 30, 40, etc.
Theres is WvW you can do (Tower button on top left corner) for big raids and massive fights.
Jump to another zone, it seems you completed all of the first zone’s hearts/activities hence your level 17, move on to a nearby zone and you can start doing hearts there.
This game isn’t Anti Social. Head on over to Lions Arch, lots of Guilds hire there, and you can join a community today!
pVp is also something you may wanna try (two swords at top left)
Good luck with your Guild Wars 2 Journey, and just enjoy all new aspects of the game! (:
Hope this made your mood.

GW2 is based on the concept that every player can sustain him or herself through control/support/damage instead of relying on healers and tanks. Instead of roles, players combine skills and tactics to achieve goals and support each other.
Here’s a really good intro the GW2 game mechanics. At a minimum, watch the first video.

so basically is it a solo pve game? I dont ever see anyone is there more people high level?
i can see it being hard to find a group?
No it’s definitely a co-op game, but it could be that the zone you’re in isn’t very popular maybe or it’s just the time of day. At least on my server I think some zones are more popular (ex. human) than others. One thing I noticed is that players tend to flock to events involving champion boss fights. If you’re walking around and see people saying “xxx is up” in chat, that means that particular boss is spawned and that’s probably where more people are going to be.
Take some initiative and go explore. Bring up your map, look for the adjacent zone that matches your level and go there. Or explore your home city and then head to Lion’s Arch and explore there. Or from there go to any other race’s home city and check out their low level zones.
Now I’m on Jade Quarry, a rather populous server and there are always other players flitting about.
RIP City of Heroes
I’m with the OP here. I’m level 16 and I don’t think I’ve seen one player yet.
Unfortunately, people rarely have cause to visit lower level areas (especially Sylvari zones). However, people do tend to come back for parts of their daily achievements. In that case, they’re generally looking for dynamic events happening around the map.
In /map, ask if any events are up. If someone responds, ask for the waypoint. Then you can meet up with others doing some events.
As others have said, Lion’s Arch is a very social place, and is the primary hub for players around Tyria. You can either explore to get there, or simply take a portal (swirly pink circle) from your home city.
Good luck!
It may be the server you’re on is less populated at the moment. I’ve got 7 characters maxed out in level, armors, weapons and all and I remember leveling each of them I had no problem encountering players, getting help from others or helping other players for that matter.
I play on SFR which is currently T1 in WvW on EU so it’s a pretty high population server..that just might be the problem.
“They say you are what you eat.
Which is funny ‘cause I don’t remember eating a f.ing legend”
Huh, I found the starter zones fairly well populated, considering the game has been out for months now oO And yes, even the sylvari one. Might really be a time of the day problem…
you might want to try the norn starter area for a change, it ought to be quite busy at the moment
Also, at lvl 17, you should already have encountered several story instances. And no, there are no healers, and while there are more and less tanky classes, there is no class that can actually willingly hold aggro. You’re largely self-reliant, although playing in a group will make most of the game much easier, because there are many other forms of support (vs. merely watching healthbars).
Have you tried finding a guild? There’s a subforum centered entirely around guilds looking for members. Also, you should see guilds advertising in mapchat from time to time.
As previously said, theres basically no reason for high level characters to go back to low level area’s apart from to farm ‘meta events’
I’m not sure how active FA is but server transfers to medium population servers are free at the moment.
Lion’s arch is a great place to find a Guild, or look in the Guilds section of this forum, a few decent Guildies can make or break a game for me.

I enjoy visiting low level areas to do my dailies, but I prefer Queensdale to the other starting areas. I can’t imagine I’m the only one. I didn’t care for the other races’ starting areas, and muddle through them for map completion, but rarely visit them. Actually, I liked the Norn one, and visit that almost as much as Queensdale to do the Maw event or hit a few things for dailies on the way to Frostgorge to do some gathering and maybe some events for dailies of Claw.
But I’m always willing to divert to help people.
I’m on Emhry, and do see a ‘lot’ more people in the starting areas these days, though can’t speak for the 15-25 areas.
You might try guesting system and ‘server hop’ to see if there’s activity on other servers?
There’s also that big “People Helping People Thread/Guild/Thing” around here somewhere. Sorry, I forget what it’s called. I think it’s a guild or communication network of some sort that helps get people hooked up to maybe do some things together.
Edit: Operation Union , that was it!

I am also on the Fort Aspenwood server and while some areas are not highly used, I never go more than a few minutes without seeing another person. In fact, I have recently been playing in Caledon Forest a lot as I just started a Sylvari ranger and only have him to level 17 myself. I saw quite a few people while I was there.
My question to you would be what time of day are you online and playing? That can have a big effect. People do tend to stay in the higher level zones as they are more challenging and thus more rewarding as far as mats and money.
That said, whisper me in game and I’ll come explore with you.
Thanks for the help guys, maybe its just me coming to the realization that this game is… a lot different then what I normally like.
I mean prove me if Im wrong but I feel by lvl 17 I should have seen more people, I play at all times of the day, btw. I like having an endgame, I see none here?? I like strategy and thinking, heck even organization when it comes to dungeons, I mean… im pretty sure a dungeon would just be a “kill as fast as possible”, I already read all over the place only 2 classes are pve viable warrior and guardian.
Im highly frustrated that no one helps or talks or says anything in game, I’ve never been on a game that has no chat at all…its eerie.
Yea, except for dungeons, there is little need to form teams. Usually it’s just who ever is in an area when an event is triggered or just passing though dynamically team up to take whatever down and then everyone goes off to do their own thing until the next event. I occasionally see groups of players from the same guild go off together but it’s very different than other MMOs I play.
And yes trying to get two words out of someone else in chat is challenging. Normally the map channel is just full of “witty” commentary than conversation.
RIP City of Heroes
Unfortunately there will always be zones that are underpopulated.
I play on a high population realm and I rarely see other players in Metrica Province, Brisbane Wildlands, Caledon Forest, Harathi Hinterlands or Snowden Drifts.
And I really don’t blame people for not visiting those areas, cus in my opinion they are rather boring and plain.
As far as the game being anti-social, it really depends on how you look at it.
Cus the combat system is designed so that each player can take care of him/herself without the aid of someone else, and since there is no mob-tagging you can just run along with other people, have fun and help each other, but without nessecarily be talking to each other.
But when you find other people and chat with them you tend to make friends very quickly, at least that’s how it goes for me.
I have played GWII since the 28th of August and I have never had a negative experience with another player. I haven’t even met any rude people in PvP, but perhaps that’s just me being lucky.

I guess ill stick it out to at least 30 and see if it gets any better….I mean thus far the pve element is beyond easy…I thought WoW was bad.
I will try my first dungeon experience and see if I like it, if not I think ill probably move on. I play MMOs for the social experience, and I can honestly say this is the most linear, socially inept game Ive ever played, there is literally no need to communicate or cooperate.
Not that its your guys fault though , I really do appreciate all these comments and suggestions, and I will be sure to try them out.

You really shouldn’t compare GWII to WoW. Although both of them are MMOs, they are nothing like each other.
As far as the difficulty PvE, it really depends on how you play your profession.
But you might want to try Orr, or Dredgehaunt Cliffs.

I understand the ‘too easy’ part to a degree, but if that’s the case, go to higher level zones for a challenge. I remember playing on my mesmer in the early levels, trying to get some of the tough skill points (especiialy with Ettins), and that required a lot of coordination on my part. A combination of high levels mobs, not enough traits/skills, and mediocre gear ups the challenge to a satisfying level.
Also, keep an eye out for people recruiting for guilds. Many guilds are ready and willing to take on new players and show you the ropes. That will also give you direct access, more or less to party members.

I was browsing the forums when I read this and went like “wtf I don’t remember writing any of this” lol!
@ OP: I think it might be your server. I communicate a lot when I play and I’ve noticed, as you did, that there isn’t a lot of interaction going on, but that’s on players, not on developers ( in my opinion ). Leveling used to be relatively demanding during betas but it was (understandably) nerfed, but dungeons are harder. Oh and I don’t know where you read that the only “pve viable” classes are guardian and warrior but that’s pretty wrong/stupid. They’re overall the strongest/most useful but you can do even the most challenging dungeons without them. P.s. Raid =/= Endgame.

Join a guild. If you want to be social why not find people to hang with. Every server has some good guilds on it. Trying to randomly find people in the world isn’t the best way to socialize even if it might have been in another game.
Also, I played WoW for a while and the open world was dead easy. I can’t remember anything challenging in the open world in WoW. Not one thing.
