A question about armor (elementalist)
If you’re focused on pve, berserker (Zojjas) is definitely the way to go assuming you’re up for the active melee damage mitigation it requires. You should be fine if you can learn encounters and dodge at the right times.
Hope this helps ^^
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
Actually, for Elementalist, Assassins can be used instead to get slightly higher damage output (except against destructible objects that can’t be crit).
Mix and matching can also be very strong, depending on what you’re doing.
Hmm Assissins you say?
Never heard of that on an ele. But Let’s see what other people have to say ^^
I disagree with esplen but that’s because I use this guide:
http://dulfy.net/2014/07/11/gw2-elementalist-pve-class-guide-by-haviz-and-zelyhn/
Which explicitly says berserker and not assassins. Assassins is more for high damage reflects iirc.

Pulled from the Elementalist forums section:
Armor
Exotic: The most cost effective choice is full Zerk armor due to its availability. Full Assassin’s armor can sometimes give you higher DPS for some builds, but the difference between the two with appropriate stacks and food is often less than 1%. While learning to play, use Knight’s armor, swapping out to Zerk/Assassin shoulders, gloves, boots, chest, pants, and helm, in that order, as you become more comfortable with content. Try to keep your gear one step out of your comfort zone.
Ascended: Full Zerk, full Assassin, and a mix of Zerk shoulders, gloves, and boots with Assassin helm, chest, and pants each pull ahead for different builds. My favorite is full Zerk because it’s best for some builds by a large margin, but when it isn’t, it isn’t too far behind.
And for PvE Speedruns (assuming group play and team synergy is met):
Therefore our gear is best as:
- Armor: assassin
- Weapons: berserker
- Trinkets: berserker
Note however that such mix is only slightly better than a full berserker set. In addition, going full berserker may be a more efficient choice for less optimal situations (out of speedruns)

The author, Zelyhn, recently (past 2 months) wrote that guide for dulfy.net that I linked. I believe the dulfy.net one is more recent. Oh and ps. Darox (who has dulfy.net guide in his signature is one of Zelyhns alt accounts. He has a few.)
His most recent account: (see signature)

I just want to say that the reason I’m arguing is because you’re getting information from excessively outdated guides. Dekeyz is from December 30th and Zelyhn ’ s (in that link) is from July 2013 at the earliest. The guide I linked is from July 11 2014 (a little over a month ago) the meta evolves with every patch. It is not the same as it was 6 months ago.

It seems I should go for Berzerker ^^
Keep in mind that Eles are one of the few classes that can actually USE Celestial (WupWup) to good effect. Zerker/Assassin IS optimum for pure maximizing DPS, but Eles can do so much more than just stack Might and burn stuff….
BTW, you can be quite effective in nearly all PvE (sans Dungeon SPEED RUNS) with a few pieces or trinkets that provide some defensive stats (Toughness / Vitality) even if you DO want to focus on maximizing DPS.
