Ad Infinitum cost breakdown?
https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/item/74155-Ad-Infinitum has a breakdown and a shopping list
https://gw2efficiency.com/crafting/calculator/74155-Ad-Infinitum also has a breakdown and it can calculate based on materials you already own if you provide it with a API key.
It doesn’t have to be armor for salvaging. A weapon is probably cheaper.
I will go for an ascended axe, as I will craft one for my necro anyway – little more expensive than daggers, but I don’t want to waste my laurels for multiple recipes.
All in all, I need to salvage 2 axes and get enough orbs from salvaging the Backpieces i earn?
I see in all the collections, i need 3 Prototype fractal capacitors?
Isn’t it enough to get one and just upgrade a single one?
You only need to salvage on 1 ascended weapon or armor and you only need 1 Prototype Fractal Capacitor. You will be upgrading the same Fractal Capacitor all the way to the end.
After you craft the tier 1 (Finite Result) it will need to be salvaged to get the Spirit of Finite Result to craft the tier 2 (Upper Bound). That will give you 5 more Ball of Dark Energy. You will need to repeat that again. When you salvage Upper Bound for the Spirit of Upper Bound you will get 9 more Ball of Dark Energy.
Edit: Oops forgot about the Pristine Mist Essences. I guess you will need two. For some reason I don’t remember having to salvage two though.

You actually need 3 Balls of Dark Energy. 2 to initially craft Finite Result. And 1 to go from Unbound to Ad Infinitum (this is after taking into account the balls you get from salvaging the precursors).

You only need 1 Prototype fractal capacitor to start with and upgrade it to the max level:
Prototype fractal capacitor (exotic) -> Prototype fractal capacitor (ascended) – > Beta fractal capacitor (infused) -> Fractal capacitor (infused)
For a relatively cheap source of ascended weapons to salvage, consider the current events quest for Caladbolg — with some mats investment (and enough alts who have done Hearts and Minds) you can get 5 weapons out of that.
5x spiritwood planks, 2x deldrimor steel ingots, and slightly over 20g worth of mats for the orb of natural essence. This brings the cost up to ~79 gold for each weapon from that current event chain after the first one.
I know that it seems cheap if you have the mats, but the 2nd-5th weapon you get from that chain is more expensive than just regularly crafting a weapon. Currently it costs only 68 gold to craft zojja’s claymore.
I stand corrected. I have the mats for a second one, just haven’t bothered to make it yet, but would have to gather them to make a third. It felt cheaper due to getting the pricey part for free from the event chain
I guess if someone hasn’t done the Caladbolg quest at all and is willing to sacrifice the weapon (along with the very cheap remake of it you can do at will through the npc) it would be an easy source of things needed for Ad Infinitum. They just wouldn’t have a weapon that can changed from type to type for 1K unbound magic each time (and loss of non-extracted infusions).
Well, I just looked it up and I’m def not gonna salvage those.
The Wiki says, stats can be chosen freely, so doing it with my Necro & Guard provides me Viper weapons easily – Dagger & Scepter, already have Howler, so no need for another Condi weapon.
Next week, on tuesday, I will have enough to craft at least my first ascended axe, when I finished the collection, I wil have another one to break those mats out.
The collection is really fair, tbh, only the last step frightens me – Gift of Metal and Gift of Wood, just to show it to someone?…kitten.
Are those changed afterwards? Or can I use them, to craft, say, Twilight or Rodgort?
You cannot reuse them. They turn into those collection items that are worth a mighty 2s 64c. I found it a waste too but I guess they have to come with something to make it have a value.
For the balls of dark energy. I actually salvaged 2 ascended weapons from my specialisaton collections that I wasn’t planning on using. I already had enough GS and why would somebody want an asc warhorn?!
Jesus kitten Christ, 2.64s for a Gift…..kitten , Anet.
Anyway, you’re right about that, but I’m not even close to finishing the collection on my Guardian and Warrior, so I’m left with drops (I’m not lucky with drops, beside my Howl precursor) or crafting.
And crafting sounds much more reasonable in my Opinion.
