Sooooo in a recent conversaton for AR with my guildies, I noted that why would someone infuse a trinket if the AR is capping at 70 (according to gw2wiki), and that number can be achieved by throwing in +5 Versatile infusions on all gear (if you have full ascended).
Does the AR really cap at 70? If yes, why should someone infuse their trinkets to get additional AR when it really does absolutely nothing.

Thanks in advance

Technically, it doesn’t do “absolutely nothing”; 70 AR is needed to nearly negate the Agony stat for level 50 fractals (having 70 AR will reduce the damage tick of Agony to 1%, as opposed to 6% at 65 AR). See the table on this wiki page for more information on that chart.

It may also be in preparation for Heart of Thorns and the new fractal changes that might require more AR in order to get through 50+ level fractals without being killed. But again, we don’t know for sure if players will need more AR, or less (as a fractal mastery might provide some extra AR without needing to apply it to gear).

Infused trinket came before the ascended weapons and armor so you need them before to get to 45 AR. Later they added armor and weapon, making the maximum to 85 and there was no point to removing the infused anymore. We’ll see what they will do at the expansion with that. Anyway, right now it’s now useless because

1) Underwater you lose your helmet and drop to 80 AR
2) When you are down you lose your weapons and drop to 75 AR or 70 when downed underwater.

Not that important, but still.
