Another 'what class should I play?' thread.
Honestly, just play a class you enjoy.
Yes, Necromancer is the only class that doesn’t bring a lot to the party in a dungeon run, but there should still be people willing to play with you.
I find it silly that a PUG would not welcome you, since it being a PUG means that most of the time there is a very small amount of organization, so being close to optimal is probably not even an option anyway.
Of the classes you mentioned, I have both a Guardian and a Mesmer, they are both fun to play, but they arguably have a higher skill cap than, say, Warrior (which is another great class that I personally enjoy a lot).
If your goal are dungeons, keep in mind that some of the stuff that is asked of a Guardian, can be asked of a Mesmer if no Guardians are in the party.
If you want to try something completely new maybe go for Elementalist?
I’m in no way an expert, so if you have time I suggest you to take a look at these video series by Nike from DnT, a NA guild:
What each profession is expected to do in a dungeon run (except Necro)
Basic rotation guide for each profession (including Necro)
So yes, sorry for the big spill and I apologise if threads like these make you angry, but ah well!
No worries, welcome back!
Zadie, I would warmly recommend making a brand new character. It will get you familiar with the game once more and you will be able to experience the New Player Experience, along with the influx of players.
As for your Necro, I would never refuse to take you in one of my dungeon runs. There are many people with my mindset, you see. But as it happens, most of them quickly get gobbled up by a guild, so their efforts end up in the guild. In my case, I’m leading one. Maybe that’s what you’re missing? A good guild?
Good guild..been looking for that
Thanks for your responses, I ended up making an Elementalist and I’m taking it very slowly, enjoying the view and whatnot. Apparently Elementalists are challenging to play, well, compared to a Necromancer that is. The game feels new, almost, while nothing has really changed I forgot that the game is quite pretty. Unfortunately my server is the Sea of Sorrow and I think that’s not EU based.
Basically PUGs felt a Necromancer didn’t bring a great deal to the table, which I guess is true, and when it came to, eh, Arah (I think it’s called), I was instantly kicked from the group. If I didn’t open a fractal I was the most probable to be kicked if things went south, even if it wasn’t my fault. I always planned on making specific PvE characters for dungeons and fractals, but I quit before I actually did it.
That being said, I plan on making a Warrior and in turn level both of them sort of side by side. It has been fun getting back into the swing of things and I’m hoping I can clear dungeons soon enough, but so far so good. The state of Lion’s Arch is sad though, will they ever fix it?
