Anyone share this sentiment?
I did my first dungeon raid with a guild yesterday (which I have now joined!) and I loved it, though since others in the party knew what was coming, it did kill the spirit of wonder a little.
It’s a bit like watching Elevator: Source, then playing it, so I understand what you mean for sure.
My biggest problem is running a dungeon for the first time with players who have more experience with it, and having them run and gun from start to finish. Maybe I’ll be that way after I’ve gone through them a few times, but I like to at least enjoy the experience the first time or two through them.
It’s an age old MMO quandry – making content interesting enough for people to want to repeat it, and therefore making it feasible for new players to be able to get through it the first time.
i run with a few more “regular” guildies / plauers for dungeons. i’ll admit, i’m “farming” a few dungeons right now for tokens. though, there are more than a handful i have not completed yet! that being said, when we do sometimes pick up some PUGs, if it’s their first time, we’ll always encourage them to watch the cut scenes, we’ll sort of take our time (so i guess it’s not the MOST efficient farming) but we all still have fun. and we will give tips sometimes, mainly on how to survive but we don’t lay things out word for word always and in the end, people are happy with the runs usually : ))

@Orpheus : sounds like you’re having fun with this great game. I consider myself a casual player and due to irl stuff (work, family, hardware issues) i haven’t been able to get to the point off doing dungeons at all. So i’m a TOTAL noob on these things in GW2 (did play a lot off WOW and did a lot off dungeon runs there, but in GW2 they seem to be “a littel bit” harder to beat )
I’m in a great guild called The Legion off Honor XIII (check us out in this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OPERATION-UNION-Bringing-Players-Together/page/9#post720735 ) and we have a lot off casual players that want to enjoy the dungeon/game world and not rush through the content. So maybe you wanne team up with some off us and do some runs.
Just see what you think and i applaud your vision on the game!!

Noppy, next time I log, if I’ll have time for a run, be prepared to get an invite.
Orpheus, what you describe is more of a state of mind IMO, than a “job” like approach some people have towards dungeons.
I played WoW for 4.5 years, and every time I logged in and formed up with a group it was fun and somewhat exciting over again.
Having said that, I’ll share something my instructors at RL military service in pilot’s training told us:
The joy of flight is loving every time you do the pre flight checks, starting the engine, saluting the technical personnel, taxing and taking off. It’s not just about getting to the range to release your bombs.
If you don’t like the process of take off, then you lost the joy of flight, and if you lost that, a pilot is not the job for you.
Taking it to this game, and especially since there is no tank-healer-dps trinity, if people don’t like starting the fight and finding out what group they’re in, and what they can contribute, but instead want the quick in-fight-collect loot-go out then maybe they shouldn’t do the content.
I find it nice that in this game people usually are willing to help and have the patience to explain and help, and I enjoy that when I have more experience.
I agree with you completely and it’s one reason why I quit WoW. You couldn’t hardly play content unless you studied the dungeons and raids before you even got to play them. Screw that. It takes all of the fun out of it for me. There’s nothing new or exciting. Just trying to copy something someone else has already done.

hey, I really like this comment. Thumbs up for your instructor there. We all should learn from him (or her )
@Orpheus.7284 well, you get it right there. Some people are just too “efficient” to enjoy the game or in this case, a dungeon.
I personally like exploring the maps rather than grinding in same events over and over again and zerging at the Straits, but so very few people share the same joy.
The environment and ambience, the challenge in completing the vistas and skill points, and the variousness of the events, they are all FUN. Fun is what we are looking for, right???
Let me know if you or others are moving to the Sea of Sorrows Server, I’d be more than happy to accompany you travelling around

I LOVE THIS THREAD. I couldn’t agree more and I would join your guild in a second if I was on the same server. I’m on Blackgate if anyone ever wants to do some partying!!
:DDD this is becoming something else i feel.
@Omerk – thanks for sharing that quote!! that’s very encouraging and glad to see so many appreciate that notion and have a similar approach and or vision for the game. ; )))
that being said, i pretty much don’t have any story mode dungeons done, lol. anyone wanna party up and really explore a bit? feel free to add me in-game, and let me know you found me from here lol.
@OP – do check out Operation: UNION! the legion of HonourD ’tis a great guild and place to hang out and meet people with like-mindedness as shown in here.

Hehe akamon, it seems The Legion is invading other threads now
@Omerk – a great quote from your instructor! And it really captured the spirit off the game for me. You have to enjoy the ride, and not rush to the finish to get the shiny price!
@ThelronFistofDeath – i had the same experience mate! I’ve been playing WoW since Europe’s Beta and i loved every thing in the game. (it was my first taste off MMO games) But after 5 years, i had to quite due to RL commitments. After a good year i came back to Wow and started a new char. But the game had completely changed!! Nobody was helping anybody out! If you asked for some advice, the best thing you got was a link to a wiki or youtube clip. And when you asked for a dungeon group, they first wanted to know how well you did know the dungeon, what your gear looked like and how fast you could run the dungeon. Now that’s not my kind off game!
So i’m very happy to see that other people do like to play as me, and take the adventure off dungeon exploration instead off the quick fix off dungeon rushing!
