Without really trying, as time passed I ended up getting Armorsmithing up from 400 to 425.

Now my guardian needs two exotic sets (Berserker and Soldier), and since I’m short on tokens and feeling impatient, I was thinking of maybe crafting the armours instead.

Two complete sets should take me to 475, which is close enough to 500 to make it a tempting possible future objective.

I know that this guide is more efficient, my reasoning here is “if I use the guide I end up selling the stuff and the return isn’t that good compared to the gold spent; if I craft them for myself at least I get to keep them”.

What do you guys think?

Follow the guide until 450. The recipes used, i.e. Superior Rune of Krait and Giver’s armour set are very cheap to make, the former is then sold to vendors, while the latter can be salvaged for materials.

Afterwards, since you’re using the armour anyway, make those armour pieces. Since you’ve planned to craft instead of farming tokens, then you’ll eventually incur the costs anyway.

Finish your sprint to 500 with the remainder of the guide, which are just a bunch of discoveries anyway.

Don’t forget to use Crafting Boosters.

Thank you for the advice, seems like a good strategy :-)

With no boosts or buffs, it takes ~23 exotic discoveries to go from 425 to 500, roughly, give or take 1 or 2.

Craft Exotics until you hit 450 and then STOP and start on Ascended materials.

Craft Ascended materials (starting at 450) until the rewards go down (around 470) and then start crafting Exotics again.

NOTE: that several of the Ascended refinements only allow you refine ONE per 24 hours, so this method will severely delay you Exotic crafting when you hit that point.

The above all assumes you have reason to WANT to reach 500 with the least wasted opportunities to advance. If you really don’t care about reaching 500 ASAP for the least cost, disregard these suggestions.
