Best or most enjoyable GW2 class pairs?
What’s your two’s playstyle? Different proffesions have different playstyles. To be honest.
You could play any two classes, what playstyles do you prefer – in your face, ranged, deception and distraction, magic, gadgets… ?
I would recommend a Guardian in your pair setup – IMO Guardian complements very well with any other professions (class):
1. High Survivability – Guardian wears heavy armor and has many damage-mitigation skills. Guardian provides the “tanking” support when you need it.
2. Great support – With boons and heals for allies aplenty, the Guardian is a great support in helping party members survive better, and fight betters.
About the only glaring weakness of a Guardian would be their limited range attacks.
Warrior and Guardian are far and away the two strongest classes in PvE right now. Guardian is more group oriented so I would recommend that.
As far as a duo partner, I would recommend Mesmer. Elementalist and Necro play like their traditional roles from other games but the mesmer class is truly unique and makes for a good group support.

There was some good information in the Husband/Wife Duo- Warrior/? Spec Suggestions? thread that might give you some ideas also.

I play with my wife, and we’re both altoholics. We have a lot of free time though (being retired).
I have yet to find a pair of characters that don’t synergize well. Most commonly we play Guardian and Mesmer or elementalist and ranger, though right now we’re playing 2 necros.
There really is no wrong way to do it in this game.
My boyfriend and I have played as a duo for many months, as a thief/engineer combo, and got along more than fine.
Yes, if one of us had been a worrior or guardian, it probably would have been even easier, but it really wasn’t necessary.
I would encourage you to simlpy pick the classes that you feel most drawn to. All of them can tank to a degree, and all of them can dish out damage to a degree; you’ll be fine.

Contrary to other games it really doesnt matter a lot. Some swear by one melee and one ranged, but e.g. a ranger with a knockback skill can be a real pain for a melee player.
Even playing both the same class can be interesting and fun. So play what you like
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I recommend Guardian/Mesmer.
The Guardian will usually bunker enemies down while the Mesmer runs around and shoots them with her lasersword.
Plus that gives you a very good mix of the game’s mechanics.
I demand that you guys try to make similar armor sets or at least complimenting armor sets.
ill have to agree with guardian mesmer. SO MANY BOONS!
If you play with your wife, go with warrior + guardian.
It’s the safest and you will be able to join every group in the game.
Yes, the game will be marginally easier with 1 or 2 guardians / warriors. But not necessarily more enjoyable. If it is honestly all the same to you both whether you play melee, ranged, magic or non-magic, then go with the obvious choices; but this should not be the priority.
Seriously, go with whatever class “feels right”. If you feel like playing an elementalist or ranger, do it. If you have fun, you will be a better learner and a better player.
Also, levelling in GW2 is really quite fast, so if you pick a class and around level 10 you realise that you don’t like it, you won’t have wasted much time at all and can easily start over.
There is no “wrong” combo in GW2 that will screw you over or get you stuck in a corner.
(I think you will end up spending more time discussing which crafting disciplines either of you should level… :P)

the level-to-10 argument is bad.
you will have fun with every class probably because something new is always exciting. i had fun with my ranger and regretted it at 80.
My boyfriend and I play Ranger/Engineer respectively, I really love the synergy (he loves lightning arrows, I love blast finisher in water fields XD)
@Arekai you can join every group with every class already, especially if you have built in a synergistic manner.
If you want to get into 4warrior1mesmer groups though, you can go warrior warrior or warrior mesmer.
The main problem with the any class in the meta is just that beserker gear is the best if you’re skilled, the class itself doesn’t really make more than a few seconds difference (which is lost in searching for specific classes)

At least for PvP… two identical mesmers would be quite fun..
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
My husband and I duo a lot. Our first 80’s we leveled as Mesmer/Thief and we’re currently doing Ranger/Elementalist and it’s a LOT of fun. Roaming in WvW is an absolute blast and it’s amazing the synergy we can get out of my pets. I’ve gotten to play with some of the less desirable pet combos because of it as well as some really funky builds.
I say just try out what you’d each like to do and make it work. When you duo there is so much more you can do with theorycrafting a build as compared to solo theorycrafting to seriously complement each other. And don’t forget to have fun!
Wow! Thank you everyone for all of the advice
My wife and I had the most fun on a warrior/guardian pair. She was going for more support and heals, and I was going for more kitten over the top DPS. It turned out to be a really fun ride. We’ve also leveled up Elementalist/Ranger, not as quick, or as easy at all. We did Mesmer/Warrior, which was meh. And Ranger/Mesmer, better, but still meh. Our best and most fun was Warrior/Guardian. We might try a Thief/Engineer soon, though. Haha.
