Common ? and Tips for PvE Newbies
This is what I do/did to make/save money but to be honest probably staying in town CRAFTING your eyeballs out is probably the quickiest/most efficient way to make GOLD.
I have been taking part in pretty much every world boss event most days. A fun thing to do and the loot is OK. You can do 3 or 4 from low levels, check the Wiki for “World Bosses”
I also spend just 30 to 40 minutes a day farming for decent loot, that is to say find a place with plenty of things you can kill quickly, do so then run back to the start of your route and repeat without a break. Everything that drops is worth something and it adds up very quickly. Google the best places to “farm” if you like but you will probably easily find places which suit you best on your own. It does get boring so don’t over do it, I do 30 to 40 minutes because one food item with extra magic find lasts 30 minutes and any for me any longer gets too boring, better 30 minutes a day than giving up through boredom after 1 week.
Collect everything I see, even T1 wood is worth selling so ignore nothing.
Everything else is salvaged. Worth mentioning for the benefit of newer players that salvaging a rare level 80 item can give Ectoplasm which is used in crafting those items which sell for a lot of gold. If you do decide to salvage for Ectoplasm for your own crafting rather than buy it use the best Salvage Kit to get the most from each salvage. Lesser items can be salvaged with less than the best Salvage Kits because of diminishing returns as you work your way down from the best gear to the lowest (white).
I put the money I make from loot etc towards making something. The last couple of days that has been a bow which each sold for 40g, I added about 15g to buy some of the materials I needed from earlier profits.
I mentioned level 80 a lot there because it takes only a short time to levelup that far so there are newish players even at the highest levels. If you are just starting to play then be patient, you will not make lots of gold for a while. At the low levels just kill and collect everything you see, sell what you don’t need but if possible sell at the Black Lion Auction House never the Merchant, if it says “List this item” it is normally best not to.
Learn crafting. You will levelup very quickly that way and when you reach the high tiers you can start to sell your things for good money.
Eat magic find food. I would say learn to make it yourself but you can buy it at the Black Lion Trading House. The +% magic find you get will mean what you kill will drop better loot which is worth more money.

Especially right now, copper and the T1 logs are worth more than mithril and T5 logs. I’ve consistently found that beginning zones are profitable solo, while higher level zones are profitable in groups. For people who just want to wander around Tyria for a bit, pick the T1/T2 zone with the lowest completion % and make some money while having fun.

Ahhhhh…tis true then —CRAFTING is the key to GW2 wealth.
My superior left-sided Asuran brain knew the answer but my puny human intellect still refuses to comply.
Thanks for the awesome link Khisanth! :-)

Actually, crafting is hard to make profitable in GW2, which is why sites like that exist. The easiest way is to do quick dungeon runs or farm the latest LS map – dungeon runs have the highest typical gold/minute with a good group, and the LS map will have the highest concentration of players. Since kill-stealing is impossible in GW2, more players = more events and mobs = more loot.
There are also guides to farming high level maps that can come up with significant gold/hour, which are good fallbacks when LS zones are depopulated.
