Crafting
When you can sell crafted goods for profit, more players craft and profit goes down. When it isn’t worth it, players stop crafting, and demand/supply changes a little towards making crafting ‘worth it’ a little. There are exceptions, but I wouldn’t say they make a huge difference.
Overall, it will always equal out this way.
So crafting is good for levelling, for achievements, personal satisfaction/independence from market, but not for making hard profit.

There are few weapons in each crafts where you can make money but it’s almost always just a bunch of copper or silver.
www.gw2spidy.com can show you which weapons can “in theory” be sold for profit. In theory, because many weapons can be sold for a profit, it’s just that nobody will buy them.
Yeah, if you want to make a profit off of crafting, Food and Jewelry are generally the way to go. As a Weaponsmith, you will sometimes be able to make a profit of off certain Sigil Recipes, but there usually isn’t too much profit to be had from the actual weapons (same with Armorsmith and Runes).
Crafting is baisicly speed leveling for the rich nowadays.

I would not say its for the rich, i’ve got cooking at 400 on my warrior and weaponsmithing + jeweler also at 400 on my mesmer and i’m not rich and have only spent 30 euros on buying gems ( for skins on my warrior). The gold i spent i farmed, and tbh it isn’t that hard to make gold, you just need to stop being lazy and farm your kitten off

I think what he meant is, if you go by a crafting guide, you can do all the crafts (except cooking) for between 70 and 90 gold. (The 90 gold path will be a little faster / save you time.) This will level a new character up all the way to level 80 and only takes a few hours.
So yes, you can “buy” yourself a level 80 character with 70-90 gold.

here how i’v done my crafting. look up the materials on wiki, do a TP search on material prices and add up the value to buy set materials vs buying. if the price is close and the materials aren’t a nightmare to get i’ll try to craft on my own for the satifaction of making it myself. other wise I’d just as sooner buy it and sell the materials to break even.
