Hi guys,
pardon my exaggeration, i got my dusk in the mystic toilet 2 days ago and all ihave left to do is my exploration (literally) i am on 49% and i feel like i have been doing it for an eternity.
i Have the absaloute shortest attention span when it comes to repetative actions, so please please please help me, im asking all those players that have done their exploration,
What got you through it? Enjoyment? why don’t i find it fun, the hearts just seem to take so long, i actually think i prefer the fetch quests on wow than the hearts, i thought anet said it was supposed to give meaning to the quest, (off topic now :P)
But in conclusion what can i do to make it easier, any suggestion would help ty in advance,
Almost a twilight owner,
RedCobra
I went from 31% to 65% in 3 days, what got me throw it? Music lol..lots of music xD

yeah that seems to help for me, ive been making a mix, Should i just get like 40 albums together, or maybe watch a show? hmm
Perma-swiftness, movement abilities, and making sure there’s a marathon of something on TV you can half pay attention to yet still enjoy.
Did it on the Engineer, and have been putting it off on my Warrior for months.
There are a handful of hearts that are just unbearable, and another handful that are really a pain if certain local dynamic events are or aren’t running.
TV helps for some of the more repetitive stuff. If you can find some people to explore with that might help as well.
Just remember why you’re doing it. Having a friend to chat and run around with helps, as does watching a tv show. If you haven’t finished wvw maps, pop into those every couple of hours to see if any new areas have been claimed.
Taking a friend with you makes a huge difference. Me and my friend did fields of ruin together. We also found chicken which we could carry and they also gave swiftness thus we tried to complete the map while carrying those chicken. Was really fun.
yeah i suppose, ive been doing it solo atm, i didnt want to encumber my guild, i guess if people are up for it i could do zones with them that we both havnt done
If you don’t have friends to do it with, you can also often call out in map chat to see if anyone wants to go along with you.
I personally found the whole map very fun. But I enjoy exploring. One thing I will say though — it’s more fun when you’re doing it because you want to do it than when you’re just trying to rush through it.

this seems to be the issue, i really want to enjoy it but the legendary is teasing me, do i enjoy the explore that i have left or rush for twilight, ive been on the game 1200 hours now and every minute has been dedicated to twilight

Stop and think about why you want Twilight, and what you plan on doing after it.
The core game won’t change after you get Twilight. You’re not going to get access to top-tier raids or dungeons or PvP, unlike other games after grinding for a certain piece of gear. Neither are you going to have mass admiration or fame. Nor will you become a more powerful player. A legendary is a skin and a personal goal, not a game-changer. You get one because you like how it looks (as in, even if it was common as a blue drop, you would get it because you like how it looks) and then you continue playing the game as always.
With that in mind, is it worth getting the skin if you just burn out and blow past content you want to enjoy? My friend has multiple legendaries (all of which he made himself) and 100% map completion on five characters. As soon as he decided he wanted a certain legendary or map completion, he went after it hammer and tongs whenever he was in-game and didn’t stop unless someone needed his help. Yet the work hardly bothered him- rather, he enjoyed the feeling of making progress towards his personal goal, and after finishing those goals, just played the game as always.
However, I on the other hand don’t go after things so fervently. I like doing things on a whim and will usually drop everything if someone calls in with a question or even just wants to chat. I have my legendary’s precursor, WvW map completion, and more than enough clovers, so all elements of chance are out and the only thing that keeps me from finishing my legendary is straightforward work. Still, I spend most of my time online not actively working, but just doing things I like to do. When I explore, I pick an interesting direction and just walk and see what I find.
My way of doing things is much slower than my friend’s, but we both enjoy the game and progress without burning out or getting bored, and neither of us feel forced to work. Ultimately, that’s the most important thing. Make sure you’re getting the legendary because you want to, not because you feel you have to or that it’ll earn you admiration or make you a better player. And when you do the work required, try to do it in a way where you’ll enjoy it. Your legendary’s not going away, and there’s hardly any point in getting it if the process leaves you burnt out on the game itself.
I was working on getting 100%, stopped for now though. It was taking me about 1 hour per 1%, overall not too bad.
What I’m working on is finishing up any sections I hadn’t gotten to – I’m just coming back from a many months away from the game. I just port everywhere, I’ve got plenty of money to (I went from level 57, I think, to 75 in a few hours after work every day and, honestly, almost all of my weekend – and once I started getting rares and an occasional exotic, my moneys shot up exponentially).
Now, while working on new sections, I find a single corner and just do them one section at a time. If I get bored of doing the hearts I’ll just run the waypoints and POIs and maybe the vistas. The heart events are repetitive but I play a thief so spamming attacks is a bit fun for me.
I’m just over 50% myself and I’m done most of the lower-level areas, though up to 50 is still low-level for me now. Hoping to hit 80 tonight or tomorrow night, just got home from work. I can probably do a single area in 2-3 hours, less if it’s low level, obviously more for the higher level areas.
I like the suggestion for turning on a TV show or movie in the background for the uber repetitive stuff, though. I do have netflix. Hmm.
Best of luck!
I’m doing my exploration now. 68% complete, and it feels like there is still sooooo much!! Lol.
Regardless, I printed a map of the world with the zones already blocked out, and I used a big black marker to color in the zones I already finished, each time I finish a zone I color it in, and its actually pretty satisfying. It’s a very tangible way to visualize you progress.
I also try to either work a whole zone to completion before I do anything else since I’m easily distracted. If I have too much to do and not enough time I always make sure that I do something, anything, each time I log that progresses my map completion. Even if its just a waypoint, or POI.
I also always log off where I finished exploring last, this way when I hop back on I am close to something like a heart that needs to be done. Less chance to get distracted.
If I do good in a session I reward myself by making insensitive chat comments in LA.

really good response ty, your right i guess, i think im a mix between you and your friend though which causes the pain but honestly as good as the game is im all for WvW, i love it and id like to JUST play that lol, however this kitten legendary (which was love at first sight before i even knew how to get it) is in my way, me and my brother said at the start that WvW would be our endgame and we would both get twilight and sunrise, and he has his sunrise now and i feel left behind.

i think you may be on to something here, thats what i did with my twilight and it was extremely useful, would you be able to post where you got the map?
Go do Wvw as soon as possible. If you are on a server thats get pounded by the other two you will need the time. If you are on a top server yourself it’s a break from pve and quite easy.

oh thats already done 100% forgot to mention :P I love WvW
The world completion was not so difficult for me to do as I like to explore and I didn’t have any reasons to rush my way through the maps. There are some awesome places in this game and some are hidden. I completed all the maps partially through the personal story and also by systematically completing one map at the time when the personal story was done.
I would personaly recommend that you choose a map and complete it in one go and do this region by region. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Map_completion/table this link will show you all the places you need to complete and also there is links to wiki-pages of those maps (will help you when you can’t seem to find some pesky POI and some hearts). It took me usually about 1-2 hours of playing to complete a map this way (few maps took longer).
It has also been already said but having a friend with you running those maps will help you greatly.
Just play, read the dialogue and speak to npc’s, it will take longer, but is more fun
I do it as I’m leveling. Start the game, explore every city, then every 1-15 zone, etc. You wind up being over-leveled for the quests your doing, you get tons of crafting mats, lots of rare gear, etc. I also love finding a Jumping Puzzle now and then.
Also, music and the occasional beer (or 10) makes the lower level zones more tolerable. =P
How did you get all the other stuff needed? Don’t you need to make lots of gold to get the other stuff for legendaries? And doesn’t this need a lot of dungeon farming(which is also repetitive and even more boring then completing the world cause it is always the same dungeons)?
Personally I try to get all my 8 chars to level 80 and complete the whole world with each of them – just because I like to have all the waypoints unlocked and the hearts to be completed(looks better when you press M to see the map). I think it is getting boring for the 2nd+ char.
But doing it with at least 1 char is good and interesting. Did not do all the JP at the beginning and visited all the maps again with my main much later… also these are very fun. Could be fun while completing the world to also look for them if doing hearts is boring(of course only if you like jumping).
Also from the beginning for every new char I made I tried to complete the level zones while leveling on the way to Lion’s Arch(for human and Norn not that much… for charr also a few norn areas between and for Sylvari and Asura both of that zones cause this completes that western part of the world).
Later moving to Orr and completing the stuff in that direction… always completing a whole map while leveling and doing personal story. So with my main I had human areas sout to Orr.
Did then the western part(sylvari/asura beginner zones)… then moving to eas – not randomly jumping. Looking much better when you press M if you complete maps and complete maps that are next to each other moving in one direction.

There are a few similar ones floating around, the one I am using looks identical but It was missing Caledon Forest.
Guys Im 84% exploration now and that is all i have left to do, its been sooooo difficult but i have to be honest and thank Kosake the beers helped xD, not only that, music was a huge benefit, just sticking in old albums i hadnt listened to in a while was good, the whole matrix trilogy and i might go through the harry potter series to finish it off xD
and thank you bore for the link and luthan.

No, you’re doing it for a Twilight. :P
Seriously though, doing exploration one map at a time, rather than spamming several in a row, would be my suggestion. Also, switching up what region you’re working on helps, too, as the enemies and areas you’ll encounter will be superficially less similar.
my first character, the first thing I did after finishing the personal story and getting to level 80 was map completion. probably took me a week or two, this was almost a year ago. I made a 2nd character about 5 months ago. got her to 80 pretty much the same way (level, story, level, story, 80), but since then I’ve ignored map completion entirely. I haven’t explored the map for the sake of exploring it at all, just going where I need to to do invasions or events or dungeons. If there is a wp or POI on the way, I’ll tag it. Currently, I’m sitting at about 70% map completion.
If you don’t have friends to do it with, you can also often call out in map chat to see if anyone wants to go along with you.

This, 100%. I can’t imagine working so hard for something in a game it burns you out so much you want to quit playing anyway. I spend most of my time with GW2 leveling alts when I feel like I want to, or just sitting around in DR shooting the breeze in map chat, or RPing. Why? because It’s what I want to do at the time. If I want something bad enough, I’ll work for it. I just haven’t had anything really grab at me and make me want to put massive effort into it yet. Since this game has little to no gear/content treadmill like most other MMO’s, the game is perfectly playable at everyone’s personal pace. Nobody’s really wrong in how they enjoy the game, as long as they’re enjoying it.
I do not have a short attention span, so I can not share (most) of your pain.
However, I like sweeping views of nature and environments—paying attention to the surrounding beauty made visiting all of the areas a great deal more enjoyable.

^^ made me laugh, tbh youre suggestion seems interesting, i never imagined switching zones i just assumed it would be best doing one zone at a time, im on 85% now and i have to say its been very difficult for me, and thats coming from someone who grinded for 99’s on runescape :S dont get me wrong though someone said dont do something that makes you want to quit, oh i would never do that, i dont enjoy exploring the world and seeing the sights its just the kitten points and hearts xD
What got you through it? Enjoyment?
Yup, I enjoyed the solo exploration experience on my ranger. The only annoying part for me were the WvW maps.
What got me started was my initial goal, at lvl 20-something, to collect all the ranger pets. This task took me all over Tyria and was a nice starter for world completion.
Oh, I have no interest in legendaries, so this was not for the gift but personal satisfaction. The map rewards and exp were nice as well. The key to the enjoyment for me was taking my time, and not treating it like a job that had to be done.
Having said that, doing 100% world once was enough for me. Would not bother doing it again

Wait… you hate repetition but didn’t even flinch at grinding the mats/gold for the other components of the legendary?
Does not compute.

im a previous runescape player :P so making gold is second nature, i play the tp you see, not only that, ive played a long time and the guild has just built up.

i just wish i could of done the explore without having to do it for the legendary, i think ill do it a second time with an alt but slowly after i have my legendary just to explore and learn the world
I found combing tasks with it would help. Like say you don’t usually use a specific weapon on the character, use it and go learn how to use it effectively. Or if you need a "slayer"achievement, go to specific areas and farm those. Also guild missions and other activities lead you to slowly chip away at them. Do some Jumping puzzles. Ive done it on two characters thus far. I was at around 70% when I started to get to that stage where it was a pain. I then just set goals for myself. Logon one night and tell yourself your goal is to explore X area and go do it and complete that area.
@RedCobra, I wish I had your problem. World Exploration is probably the easiest part of making a legendary lol, yet you have everything else. You just need to be systematic and focus and do it! Its actually relatively fun. WvW is the toughest part for sure if youre on a sucky server.
It seems as i have told guild members myself and folks have told you, music lots of it!!, zone at a time/day even (change up of area is good to), also see if any of your guild members are/want to do the same.
I’ve always found completing explorables a ton of fun. Sure, some heart-quests are more enjoyable than others. But as soon as I made my way into a new zone, I completed it. And it helps having a friend tag along.
Lots of caffeine, lots of music and lots of swiftness. One big tip is don’t leave the WvW ones until last. Having all done bar those and then having to spend days trying to finish it off in there would be soul destroying – keep popping in and out to check if new zones have been captured to make things easier for you. Have a nice youtube channel open to help with those harder to figure out vistas and take a break every now and again to recharge your batteries – either pop offline for 15 minutes and grab a drink watch some tv or whatever, or head off and do some PvP a fractal or something else to change the mood or you will burn out quickly
im on 89 % and im doing an all nighter tonight to get it finished once and for all, my friends are coming round to stay over and cheer me on xD were gonna go out as soon as i have twilight to celebrate, obviously im gonna spend about an hour just admiring it, most beautiful weapon i have seen in a game in a very long time, id love it even if it didnt have all the effects and footprints
why dont you just complete the maps?
maybe the human areas first
then norn
then asura
then sylvari then charr
and bam you have your 100%
if you have problems getting the last 1-3%
THEN you can ask for help
but not at 49%
did you even try? :P
never saw someone complain about world exploration being harder than getting dusk
but if you still need help with any areas just ask me^^

hey just because you found it easy doesn’t mean everyone does, is that really that hard to comprehend? besides,
100% guys i did it xD woooo twilights mine and i couldn’t of done it without digging up all my old albums, it made me think about something else instead of exploration being the forefront.
heh Congratulations on your Twilight glad our simple tips helped.
I have the opposite problem.
I 100%ed the map together with my boyfriend. Towards the end we rushed it a little bit, I wish I would have taken it a lot slower. Exploration was my favourite part of the game.
I loved standing in official and unofficial vista spots and admiring the landscapes, taking in the athmosphere. Also did dynamic events wherever they happened and wherever they took me, and got a real “feel” for each zone that way.
Now I’m casually working towards a legendary, but only because there is nothing left for me to explore :’-(
I still hope that Orr & Southsun get hearts and more POIs/vistas in the future.
