Getting Extra Jumping Distance?
You likely already know this, but just in case: GW2 jump physics mean you only move forward while pressing your forward move keys, even in a jump. I can’t definitively say if running adds any distance, but on a longer jump you have got to push your forward motion key for all you are worth and if you’re already moving, you de facto start with it pushed and don’t lose the moment it takes to hold it down after the jump.
Momentum. Gotta have it. Taking a bit of a running start lets your fingers/brain prepare for the jump. Plus, a speed boost will often help if you just can’t quite make a certain jump.
1. Always be moving before you jump.
2. Many jumps are easier or cannot be done without at least a 25% speed boost.
3. Dodge Jump is an advanced technique where you press V and Space at the same time for your jump, it gets a slight distance boost as well.
4. You can actually jump after you’ve left the platform but you have only 2ms(milliseconds) to hit the space bar or you fall, this also gives a slight distance advantage.
Techniques 1,2,4 can be combined with 3 to enhance your jump.
- make sure you aren’t randomly stuck in combat mode (can you change your utility skills? If not, you are!) – in combat mode, jumps are shorter.
- if all else fails, cast swiftness on yourself (every class has at least one skill that does that) before the jump.

I know the particular vista your referring to. My advice is to stand on the inner of the spokes sticking out and jump towards the outer side of the next one. For some reason this always worked for me – that vista is certainly one of the more frustrating ones though.

So, I don’t believe dodge jump currently exists. I spent an hour practicing and never saw it once. I fully believe it once existed, but either it did not when I practiced, or my keyboard will not allow it. If I can’t trigger it once in an hour of practice on solid ground, I can’t do it.
Can anyone explain why it doesn’t work for me?

It’s your timing.
I also found it was easier on my human and char avies. For some reason the sylvari (and on a lot of the other jumping puzzles) was really awful on the sylvari ranger for me but eventually I managed it. For the longer distances, if you can put swiftness on and also hold the forward key as you jump it may get you more distance. Though a lot of it is timing on knowing when to let up on the key so you do not overshoot or undershoot something. For things like spokes, like Dante said, try from the inner part and aim a bit towards the outer which may give you a slightly better/larger area to land on then just jumping straight at it. My first try was with the sylvari and it took me a long time to get that one. Since then I have done it two other times and it was much easier. Keep trying, you will eventually get it. Take your time on each jump and move your camera (yeah I know how that sucks, lol) to get the best angle you can before jumping. Good luck to you. I am not sure what videos are out there on this particular one, but if there are it helps to watch a few to see exactly where folk are jumping from and to on each spoke.
dodge-jump is definitely still in the game. it’s good to practice it while running around. dodge is as fast as swiftness, so I use dodge-jump between my swiftness running out and the next application of it to go a little faster. it takes some learning, and there are very few places that require it. tribulation mode SAB is the only place that comes to mind.
you are able to change direction while in mid air. the speed is fairly slow; probably about the same as backing up. If you jump, then move forward, your jump distance will be pretty short. if you move forward, then jump, you will have that initial speed that will let you go further. but, if you’re moving forward, I believe you don’t jump quite as high. If you aren’t going far enough, run forward for a fraction of a second before jumping to jump further. and, as other people said, you can jump just after leaving the visual surface of the ledge. your character has a circle around it’s feet (maybe 50 range?), and if any part of that circle is above the ledge, your character is still on the ledge. I would recommend testing this distance somewhere where you can get back to the ledge quickly (a fence, perhaps) get a feel for where it is on each of your characters, because it’s the same radius for all races, but it’ll look different on charr vs. asura.

I do the opposite on wall spokes: I edge out to the end of one so I can jump at the base of the next. Thus the wall acts to stop an overshoot.
Of course, my first tries at the new JP never got past the initial wall spokes, so I may not be the best to advise on this Though I think my sticking point was when I had to jump out from the wall, come to think of it, at that first alcove.

Can someone please tell me what the exact, precise timing is? Because what I am doing does not work. Repeating the same thing over and over again will not get it to suddenly work.
It probably is not the same problem I had, but just in case it helps anyone: It took me a very long time to find out that I need to hold spacebar down and not just tap it.
Some experimentation suggests that it is my keyboard wearing out…
