I ordered my Razer Naga mouse for gw2
[Dark Renegatus]
Well, I love my naga, I just use my thumb on the mouse for me 1-9/elite skills, then remapped my f1-4 onto my keyboards 1-4 keys, this allows me to use all my skills easily, as I don’t have to reach up excessively to use my virtues, shatter etc it just ends up being a short fast tap. I only use my keyboard for wasd movement, tabtargeting,weaponswapping, and a few UI binds for my invo/dodge etc etc around my left hand for what feels comfortable.
Really though, it did take me a few days to fully get the hang of it, using my thumb for pretty much every weapon skill/utility skill, and remembering where each button is from feel and muscle memory took a little while longer.
I could not go back to playing with a ‘normal mouse’ I just couldn’t.
So basically I just use the mouse in its out-of-the-box state with a few adjustments to my dpi etc and I haven’t had any problems at all. I assume you ordered the 2014 edition? that thing feels lovely in my hand =p
I did make my 12 button an auto clicker though, I don’t like carpel-tunnel and clicking thousands of times for stacks hurts my hand :’(
I have a Logitech G600, which is essentially the same thing. It makes a huge difference. I mapped F1-F4, skills 6-0, loot key, and Teamspeak toggle all on the side buttons. The extra mouse button on the far right of the mouse coincidentally works extremely well for dodging to me. It just feels right.
I will say, mice like these aren’t all that necessary or even beneficial unless you use classes that regularly use F-skills or if you have small hands. When I play on my guardian I rarely need to use the buttons aside from using shouts, yet I’m mashing everything on my ele. You could also mitigate the need for such a mouse by messing with your keybinds if you haven’t already done so.
Specific control setup is up to you, I’d say go trial & error. You really need to see which button(s) your thumb comfortably rests on and build your keybinds around that. I set my heal skill as G13 on my mouse since that’s where my thumb rests and will get hit if I panic-press :P. Other people may be lower, higher, left, right, etc.

Don’t have the Naga, but I do have the G600 from Logitech (same amount of buttons + that weird G-Shift key). It really hasn’t changed my playstyle much (coming from a G700 with 4 buttons).
I use my left hand for WASD, weapon swap, F-keys, dodge, 1-6, E (my key for default utility 9). I have piano like hands (long fingers), so they’re not difficult to reach. I really don’t use my elite that often, so I often just click it.
My mouse has 7, 8, F1 (I only press this when on a class with a single mechanic button). Also have one button as a left click when pressed down function, to open bags or use items fast.
So really I’m not using most of the buttons. :P

Ah ok I’m looking forward to trying it out then! I see how it would be useful for Eles. I have one myself but my main is my warrior and while yes Warrior is an easy class I like to get in whatever champions face and keep constantly moving, swapping, dodging, etc. and yes I ordered the 2014 one
$70 better be worth it. That could’ve been 350g on gems lol

I used to have the original Naga, but I accidentally electrocuted it a while ago. To my great disappointment they changed the feeling of the 12 thumb buttons and moved the two buttons from next to the left mouse button to behind the wheel (seriously, who can use those without killing their hand?).
I ended up getting the Razer Naga Hex, which has better feeling on the thumb buttons. I still miss the two buttons next to the left mouse button though… sigh

Or you could have spend 1hour to figure out sensible keybinds for you keyboard and save yourself those 70$.

Everyone I play with has one.
Personally, it completely changed the game for me. I love it.
The best quality of life investment in the game has been my Naga Epic. To be honest, if it wasn’t for messaging, I’d do away with the keyboard completely. Keyboard gaming has always been a negative for me. As I’ve gotten older, that feeling only intensifies.
Great mouse, although I wore out my left click playing ClickWars2.
Run Orbweaver + Mamba, that twiddlestick is really awesome for attunement shifting.
Wouldn’t really have recommended putting all your controls onto your right hand, but since you already ordered that mouse, just make sure to prioritise ground-targeted skills onto your right hand first, so that you can just ‘click’ a spot to activate them. Left hand you can reserve for movement, attunement shifts and autoattacks – you don’t want to repeatedly spam a thumbclick, or you’d have RMI on your right hand soon enough.
Because I can’t stand having to look at my keyboard to make sure I’m pressing “0” for my elite and such.
Any reviews on the impact this mouse has on your gw2 play style? Any control setup recommendations?
It has made me more lethal in combat after muscle memory settled in. : My review
….. And Elementalist.

Every moment you have to move your fingers off the WASD keys to activate abilities is a moment you’re not moving effectively. Especially in PvP movement is half the battle.
I used the razer naga for awhile. I was disappointed…
#1: It installs some strange software that completely changes how the mouse behaves. Forever. You can’t access this software without the razer naga, so I had to do a fresh install of windows to fix this problem (old computer), since removing the program didn’t fix it.
#2: The buttons are placed in a manner that didn’t fit the shape of my hands at all. All of the number keys were below the knuckle of my thumb, meaning I had to do some pro thumb-wrestling contortions to get to the buttons.
#3: The buttons on the mouse weren’t well defined, often causing me to over-press because I was essentially just bending plastic instead of having an actual click to press.
The combination of 2 and 3 lead to my hands hurting quite a bit. All in all, I was better off just sticking to the track pad on that old macbook. I use a fairly standard mouse to play GW2 on my new PC, because it is easier and hand healthier to just mouse skills than it is to fight with a Razer naga.
The Naga should not install any ‘strange software’ other then what windows will install to use the mouse like any other device, and synapse 2.0 which is your control for any(?) current razer product.
I guess everybody’s hand is a different size, some, like myself may find the size preferable, I guess the mouse just wasn’t for you =o also, the 2014 edition is slightly large and fits a bit better in my opinion.
I guess everybody is different, I had no trouble using the 2012’s thumb pad other then the occasional misclick, now that the buttons are mechanical and arranged a bit bitter, I haven’t pressed anything I hadn’t intended to.
Oh yeah. The Naga is quite small, so if you have a big hand, it’s going to be tough to use ergonomically. My hand is quite small (for a man, anyway) so it was a good match.
I dont see where op wrote that wasd is how he moves around. If you do not wasd then the pressure of pushing the buttons on the side of the mouse may cause you difficulty. At least it do for me. I took it back and stuck with my mouse with the four extra buttons on it. If I wasd’d it would have been great I think.
My setup is as follows:
- Thumb buttons 1-9 are Skills 1-9, respectively (I try to put an emergency response skill on Skill 8 because that’s where my thumb will typically be resting and so can respond quickly);
- Thumb button 11 is the Elite Skill (0);
- Thumb button 12 is Tab;
and oddly,
- Thumb button 10 is Screenshot (Print Screen). This is from the old days when blink botters were prevalent. This enabled me to quickly screenshot and report them.

Yeah because I press WASD simultaneously when I walk around.

I used the Naga for a while and found the buttons were too small and too close together for my hand. I switched to the HEX. Only 6 buttons but they’re larger and easier to find.

“I would fail disastrously if my Naga were to be taken away” is how reliant I’ve become on the side buttons.
Takes a few days to get used to it at the start though, need that muscle memory to kick in.
