Legendary transmuting safe?
Everyone transmutes it, few people actually use PVT. The look you’re saving when transmuting keeps the name and cool shiny look, whilst getting the stats of the exotic gear you’re mashing it with. Practice on some low level gear just to see the mechanic, but it’s very simple! :]
P.S. you do lose the purple name though, which only really matters if you’ve got it for pure bragging rights to link to other people.

What about the effect updates if any come. Will I get any effect update to my legendary if I transmute it?
It’s safe, or at least it’s suppose to be… Heres a post about it, that me and few others had going…
The TL:DR version…. (or what CS told me)
We are very sorry to hear you have been running into this display problem with your legendary. There is indeed an issue with this right now, and our development team has been working on the issue. They should hopefully have a fix out for it soon. We don’t have a specific ETA just yet for you, but we do hope to see the fix out before too much longer. Once the fix is in place we should post an update on our wiki update page at http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_updates. So I would keep an eye on that page so you can know as soon as everything is ready. Again we apologize that you ran into this issue at all, and we thank you for your patience while our team works on getting it fixed.
IMO when they bring in the legendary updates transmuted ones shouldn’t be included. When you transmute a legendary you’re not putting new stats onto the legendary, you’re putting the skin onto an exotic weapon, but it’s still an exotic and not a legendary.
However I can already imagine the complaining if they did that, so they’ll probably allow it (although it might require resetting them to the original stats). Unless of course it turns out they have no way to know which skin a transmuted weapon has, then it might be impossible.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Dani, so in your opinion legendary weapons should not be the best available for players who earned them? A-net has allready stated they want Legendaries to be on par with the best available. The only way that is possible is if the stat alocation is changeable. Why should the legendary I worked on for months be less useful for my build than an exotic?
Your statement about still being exotic could easily be reversed….
You’re putting the STATS onto a legendary weapon, but it’s still a Legendary weapon and not an exotic…
The real question is what defines legendary vs exotic, the stats or the skin.
The only reason I would complain at this point is, I did my transmutation after Anet stated I would retain the legendary rarity on the item, as I said earlier… According to the patch notes, and the CS response I got, it is safe, and the transmuted legendaries will be upgraded:)
