There is some great advice there on choosing dyes
Hey,
for the armor, perhaps try out the sylvari tier2 cultural.
Cheers.
I’m not really a fan for the light tier cultural armor for Sylvari. I’m planning to get that for my other Sylvari instead.

Thanks for the link!
I think abyss/grape/midnight purple could look pretty cool
What sort of look are you going for? Scholarly, sleek, sweeping, fierce, mysterious, seductive, dark, elegant, etc. How okay are you with revealing armor? Are there any particular pieces of your current set you’d like to keep? If so, why?
For flowing leggings, the two that spring to mind immediately are the Conjurer leggings (the rare quality kind) and the Arah leggings. The conjurer leggings sit rather low on the hips and don’t mesh well with the Rubric set, though, and the Arah leggings are… from Arah. And they clip sometimes with sylvari legs.

I want more of an adventuring scholarly/robe style outfit, instead of a dressy style. I’m keeping the current mask as well. I would prefer to have the armor covering from shoulders to foot, with no midriff or legs showing.
the Arah armor looks too much like a long skirt for my taste. The conjurer piece is really nice and I used that for awhile, but I couldn’t find a top that went well with it.
I really like the Exalted armor set, but everyone uses them. The Exalted leggings are very nice too – they’re intricately designed and highly detailed, but no matter how much I look at it, the upper skirt looks like a poofy petticoat. >.< (I’m sorry if I made you see that too!)
I’ve been playing around with armor combinations for awhile, and so far this is what I’ve settled with. I can’t dye it properly with the limited preview functions, but I don’t want to get any of the pieces until I’m certain on the overall look. I just wish I could find a more elaborate coat. I want to steer away from ‘death’ looks (no bones or skulls). I’d have taken the tactical leggings in a heartbeat if it didn’t have animal skulls dangling from the hip.
Your Problem:
You main problem is using Abyss. You compound that by not using it as the main colour of the ensemble and by using colours that oppose it, rather than complement it. Abyss is also no complementary to your Sylvari’s skin-colour. I’m truly sorry that you wasted gold on that dye.
My Advice:
I would start by looking at (photos of; or—heaven forbid—go outside at that time) the sky at dusk. Use the colour of the sky as the main, the colours of the clouds and setting sun as the highlights. Trust me, there will be no Abyss in that palette. Also no Sea Ice and perhaps not even any Lemon Zest.
Alternately, start with a colour that opposes or complements the skin-colour of your Sylvari, dye the whole ensemble that colour and then decide on what little highlights you wish to accentuate with another colour. A great trick is to order by material when you do this and stick to dyeing leather with leather colours, metal with metal, etc.

I see no problem with using Abyss in addition to “dusky” dyes, but have you considered limiting the use of Abyss to gloves/boots/shoulders?

yay! you referred to my guide
Your new look looks really good, OP! I personally think your new use of abyss looks nice.
since you want to maybe change the armor look and not just the colors you might want to use this to help you find the fix to your petticoat problem. you can kinda see where the colors go with most of these previews, too.

Color schemes to help you stand out!
Truth be told, I didn’t “buy” the Abyss dye on my Sylvari. I found it in my first week of playing, was a complete newbie and had no idea that it held any value/profit (didn’t even know what the black lion was at that time) and I simply used it. I want to use it because Abyss is such a rich black dye that keeps the detail of armor designs. And it’s kinda nice to show off a 40 gold dye… ^^;

I think you would be better served with Black then, since Abyss loses a lot of the natural highlights the ambient light produces on any part of an armour.
If you wish to use it for bragging rights, then seriously reconsider what other colours you wish to use. You need some very dark tones to complement it, and IMO it is of itself not complementary to your Sylvari (except perhaps her hair colour).

it’s very complimentary to the colors she chose and she made it look like black trim which is very nice for the colors she has on there.
if you want to look at colors “scientifically” then she (he?) did a great job

Are you talking about the second set of screenshots? In which case I agree about the usage (not the colours, mind you) of the light purple and Abyss, but not the dark pink. That dark pink should be replaced by a tone that is closer to the darker pink/purple of the characters hair-fronds or the light purple itself. Right now it is just jarring. Less so than the horrible original picture, but still…
Anyway, I’m not going to post here apart from this. It seems the OP wanted a bunch of yes-men advice replies, and I’m clearly not welcome to voice a differing opinion.
