Guild Wars 2

Hello all

Long time listener, first time caller

I’ve been enjoying GW2 for 2 months. Already a lot more enjoyable than that ‘other’ MMO.

Here’s my question. Can GW2 be played purely as a PVP game? I’ve done my share of leveling characters and exploring worlds and I like that you can just hop into pvp will all your skills and traits ready to use. I tend to just hot join matches and i’m happy with that for now. So:

1. With an aim to PVP, do I need to do any PVE content before jumping into PVP?
2. Do I need to collect any specific gear before pvping?
3. Does any PVE content need to be done before doing WvW?

Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance for any help and advice

1 – Nope you can jump straight into PvP on a level 1 character. As you’ve been playing for 2 months you should be fine.

2 – Nope all PvP gear is separate so that’ll be fine. it’ll be worth looking at your gear and build when you first go into Heart of the Mists.

3 – Nope but when you’re under levelled/under geared in WvW it does mean you can die a bit quicker/do a bit a less damage. Equally you can get some good levels and it is good fun so your choice really. I’ve levelled some lower level characters in WvW just means you need to pay a bit more attention.

1. If you’re a PvP player then just focus on PvP.

You’ll learn nothing about PvP from PvE.
Every 4 matches you win, you’ll earn A Scroll which would level your PvE char anyways. If you do Story Dungeon you’ll unlock the track so you can get loot/money from doing PvP Dungeon Track so you dont have to ever do Dungeons.

2. You have access to all Skills/Traits/Stats available to you in PvP and you’re boosted to lvl80… Whatever stats your Armor and Weapon provides you from PvE will NOT apply in the PvP Lobby or PvP Matches.

3. If you want to do WvW then just do WvW instead… Learn how the Commanders run their zergs, get loot and exp from WvW and learn where to put your points in WvW for upgrades like carrying more supplies or dealing more damage with arrow carts etc.

PvP, WvW and PvE are 3 different game modes.
You can play them anytime and progress with any of them.

If you prefer too focus on PvP then stick with PvP.
If you prefer to focus on WvW then stick with WvW.
If you prefer to do PvE then stick with PvE.

If you prefer to do Everything and all game modes then do them all!

So just to confirm. I enter the heart of the mists, by the low level gear and weapons. Setup my runes, sigils and traits and i’m good to go?

Yup pretty much. You may want to look in the class sub-forums for builds and more class specific advice.
