Opinions requested please..
There will be no general concensus. My initial suggestion would be a Warrior with a Greatsword and using leap movement powers like Bull’s Charge. Then you could have a 2nd weapon set that is either ranged or another melee set with leap powers.
But to be honest, your question is so extremely subjective that you’ll never get a universal answer.
Agreed with Wiser with Age that you’re going to also attract all sorts of opinions here. From what I’ve played (all classes to at least level 26, most to 80), the best classes for learning combat mechanics would be:
- Guardian: Probably with a Greatsword and a scepter/focus. Greatsword has great offensive capabilities to tear through mobs, and the scepter/focus is a solid defensive ranged set. I’m using shout skills while I level, which allows me to stand in melee for quite a while. As you get better at moving around, your ability to position and dodge will make you even more unstoppable!
- Warrior: Again, greatsword (or if not GS, axe/mace or axe/axe) and either rifle or longbow for your second weapon. Using signets for all of your skills (especially since they’ve been buffed) means you can focus on learning how to move instead of worrying that your 6-0 skills are doing nothing if you’re not actively using them.
- Ranger: While I personally find this a boring way to play, you can use a shortbow and a longbow, grab a couple of tanky pets such as bears, and shoot your way to level 80 with very little concern about positioning since your pet will be holding aggro. I’m not sure what skills you’d use if you went this route.
I levelled a Thief, Ele, Mesmer and Warrior to 80 and Guard/Ranger/Necro in the lower levels (~to level 15).
I’d say that Thief is the easiest to level by far. All of the 4 of them are quite squishy, even heavy armor.
I found Warrior did a lot of damage, but died the most. It also was the most dependent on gear.
Ele was fun to level, but required a lot of movement and kiting.
Mesmer did low damage during leveling, but had good survivability with the clones.
Thief did great damage levelling and easily evaded all attacks by open world enemies. It’s been awhile since I played it, so it may have been nerfed to oblivion, not sure. Equip up 2 daggers, run up the enemy or enemies (can easily take on a group). Hit 3, wait 1/2 sec, hit 3, wait 1/2 sec, hit 3, wait 1/2 sec, hit F1 2x, hit 3 – they’re dead. All of them. This works best if you trait it so stealing with F1 adds initiative. 3, for the unawares, is death blossom and allows you to stack 3x bleeding and does AoE damage while evading all attacks.
Do you mean movment as in keybinds? (I hope you are using strafe and mouse to change direction and not using the turn keys) If you mean movement as in dodging, running, I’d suggest warrior or thief.

Not elementalist or engineer.
They’re two of my favourites but they require a lot more swapping (attunements on the ele and kits on the engi) and often more moving and dodging than other professions.
Personally I’ve found warrior and guardian to be the easiest to play, although I also got bored with both fairly quickly (for much the same reason). Their profession specific mechanics are a lot easier to get the hang of than something like a ranger or ele.

You can play them for a while without using kits, just pistols or rifle + additional skills.
I didn’t start using kits until much later, but it is a long road to map completion, so there is enough time to get acquainted with any class.
Just pick one that “speaks” to you, or try different ones in low level areas until you find one that you like; levelling is fast enough, so starting over is not a huge waste of time.

I’d suggest necromancer or warrior they have the most health.
Warrior with healing signet can get away with a fair amount of static play. Necromancer can also, but its ability to do so is enhanced at later levels (that is, when you get past level 40 and can spend more than 10 points in a trait line to get the 15 point master trait Vampiric in the Blood Magic trait line).
As has been pointed out by GreenNekoHaunt, these two classes have other advantages as well.
The best option would be to learn to move. The video below is the best explanation I’ve seen on how to use GW2 movement in combat to your advantage.
Whatever you choose, good luck.
