Question before starting
A1: as soon as you are both done the tutorial, you can use the Asuran Gate(big purple portal) in each of your home cities to reach Lion’s Arch and meet up there, or one of you can use the same portals to join the other in his/her home city.
A2: yes, they don’t interfere with each other so you can just take turns with you helping him do his and him helping you do yours.
A3: Tarnished Coast is the unofficial RP server for NA, and I believe Piken Square is the one for EU. TC is one of the busiest servers though so you might find popular zones/events to be quite crowded.. but outside of Queensdale(human starting area), you probably won’t see that many ppl in the early/mid-level zones.
A4: No mounts, Way Points and Gates are the only way to get around beside walking everywhere. there’s no unlimited sprint per say, but most classes will have options to get you a 25% speed buff and/or will allow you decent uptime of the Swiftness boon(33% speed buff)
Northern Shiverpeaks
Q1: each go to your respective city. In each city you’ll find a large purple asura gate that will take you to Lion’s Arch (LA). You’ll both come out at a large round platform where there are gates to every race’s major city. You can then decide where to go and completely play together.
Q2: Yes, and you can invite each other to help out with your own stories.
Q3: I’m not sure about that one, maybe Blackgate (BG) or Tarnished Coast (TC)?
Q4: No mounts. Once you’ve been through areas you’ll “unlock” waypoints (WP), which you can go back to anytime for a fee once you’ve gotten then lit up. They look like blue diamonds, but are not lit up until you’ve activated them by running through/near them. No sprint unless you use skills/traits/runes on your gear (those are expensive). You’ll have to unlock skills and traits as you go.
Please read the sticky at the top of this forum on “OMG if you only knew this”. You will need to know that stuff to enjoy the game to its fullest. HAVE FUN!
And make sure you invite each other to your “party”. This way, should you get separated, you can always see your other party member on the map and can move towards them…..
Q2: Could we go back and forth between his story and mine?
You already have good answers for the questions, but there’s something I would like to point out on this one.
Let’s say that in the future you picked the Vigil as your order and your boyfriend picked the Priory. If both of you do a Priory story mission and successfully complete it you’ll earn a reward, however since you are not the one who “opened” the instance you’ll get a message confirming if you want to receive the reward and advance in the story.
DO NOT EVER accept this message unless you want to keep the same story as him, if you do your missions from now on will be changed to the Priory and you’ll pretty much lose your initial character story (since it’s not the same that you planned before), so be careful with that!!
I honestly don’t know if they have fixed it, but to be sure if both of you plan to be on different orders do not accept the message when completing a mission that is not from your chosen order.
Hope that’s understandable.

Thanks to GrandmaFunk, ozmaniandevil and Cassocaster for taking the time to do the quick and detailed replies!
I am in the EU so Piken Square seems like the place to go.
Does anyone know the least EU populated server? (so i can ‘guest’ to that one now and again)
(This is a bit of a waffle so you can skip the part below if you like)
I’ve played other mmo’s and to be honest other people randomly diving in and killing a boss/mob you’re fighting (then running off) ruins my/our immersion (i know this game is geared toward more/better co-op though). I’m not against playing with others whether in a party or doing a group event together, but when I’m questing i prefer no help from other players. So that is why i would prefer a server that isn’t over flowing.
Thanks for that Ghost, that’s brilliant info.
We already read about being able to share a story mission. We want to do as many different missions as possible so we knew not to share eachothers story mission, and we were planning on working for different groups (ie. vigil/priory so we could get more quests), so the info you’ve posted is really, really useful
Thanks again
I’m on Piken Square myself and it is a fairly busy server, however if you keep away from certain areas you shouldn’t have a problem. Queensdale, the human starting area is probably the worst with the champ train running there. Areas with current living story events are probably worth avoiding as well, which at the moment is Bloodtide Coast and Lornars Pass. Most of the mid level areas are fairly quiet and once you have a few levels you have a good choice of areas to play in, with the down leveling system you aren’t trapped in areas your level.
And trust me, when you are fighting for your life, praying that your heal recharges in time, and wondering why your cc abilities are always on cooldown when you need them, seeing another player arrive and knowing that there is a good chance they won’t ignore you is a wonderful feeling.
Welcome to the game and hope you have fun.
