Questions about leveling.
Map completion is my fastest way…
Dungeons give 75% of a level upon completion of a path. Personal Story missions give 25% of a level. Events don’t give anywhere near this amount, but at the rate that you can complete them, they give a lot of exp eventually (they also give more if you’re closer to the level, and not downlevelling). Hearts give about the same amount as events I think (don’t have any evidence for this, haven’t paid much attention), but they’re a one time thing, so…
If you like WvW, that’s a reasonably fast way and it’s arguably more fun that PvE to many people.
I think what you’re doing is a good start. But when you’re running around completing a map don’t forget to do any events that come up (you can often do them at the same time as hearts) and gather any crafting materials you come across. You can either use the materials to craft (and get more XP) or sell them.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Run the champ train and use the money you make to craft for levels or buy dungeon runs “at last boss”.
I think they should add more quests in the areas as it seems that there is a big gap between the area quests and the story quests. Usually one would have to bounce in between the starting areas to get the experience to be able to move into the next level area without being overpowered by the enemies there. It would make it a bit easier on all of us if there were just a few extra quests in the beginning at least to get the character on their feet.
I for one have a really hard time getting anyone out of the lower levels as its really difficult to get the character to level and by the time you do you complete all the quests in the area but you’re still too low of a level to progress into the next area.
When I’m leveling up a new alt:
1 – do home area first (Human, Queensdale; Sylvari, Caledon Forrest…)
2- do home city
3- do another races first area, city, repeat until all first area/cities are done.
4 – do second areas
5 – do next level areas, repeat until level 80, then explore everything else.
While doing the above, occasionally do the story line. Lion’s Arch can go in there somewhere too.

I don’t think I’ve ever had that problem on any of my character but I always clear each map before moving to the next. I usually hit lv80 by the time I get to the lv50ish Personal Story step.
I did a video on it, its not the best but its wat i got my characters to 80…. Its slightly outdated but :
Be sure to always have food active, since you get 10XP per kill from any food. Use XP boosters if you have them. I would also recommend exploration since that way you get 2 things done, working towards 100% and leveling; and it’s always useful to have as many WPs as possible so you can travel faster. You should also always carry gathering tools since each gathering gives you XP. Do all events you find.
WvW is an awesome way to level and it’s pretty fun, you should give it a try (if you haven’t already).
If you do PvP, use Glory to get Scrolls of Knowledge (or w/e they’re called), which give you one level each.

That is +10% XP not +10, most food is just missing the % in the description. You can get +15%XP instead from the Halloween foods. Utilities also give another +10% and you can just use any random Weak potion for that.
