Q:

Salutations,
I have played at launch for about 1 year, then real life took over.
Now I have decided I shall try GW2 again.
My time frame is around 17-20 GMT or 12-14 EST.

If you guys could clarify a few points, that would be great:

1). I don’t remember on which ‘server’ I was, but I remember that server transfers were expensive. Should I look for a guild based on a certain server, a timezone EU or US, or how should I go on looking for one?

2). I remember having difficulties joining my guild for Guild Missions because of the time frame. I suspect this will still be the case, since I don’t have a lot of free time. What is your advice regarding this point?

3). I am looking for an easy/fast leveling journey now, since I remember taking a lot of time leveling a Thief and Ranger. I shall start a new toon, but I don’t think I have the patience to follow the story again (I remember having difficulties in Orr for example). So, should I stick to the story again, or?

Thank you, and see you in game, hopefully.
Have a nice day.

1) When you log into the game it will show the home world in the details regarding the character. Otherwise if you create an API key in your account settings and enter it into a site like mygw2.wvwintel.com/ then that will tell you the world you’re on. Depending on if you’re planning to play WvW then either look for guilds based on server (for WvW) or just region/timezone.

2) Some guilds allow members to just join for missions so maybe try to find a mission guild that you can join.

3) If you already have 2 characters I’d log in to them first and get the birthday gifts they have. One of the items will be a level 20 scroll which will boost a character from 1 to 20. Use that to get a bit of a headstart then you can either craft, explore, play PvP for tomes (each tome gives one level) or go to Edge of the Mists to level up.

1) Server only affect WvW. If you don’t do that, then server will never affect you. If you want to do WvW then search a guild on the right server and right timezone.
2) Find a guild with guild missions at a moment that you can do it. Larger guild tend to have more than 1 guild missions per week to help players in your situation.

WvW:
How do WvW rewards work?
I am alone (no party) and I follow our army. Fight begins (aoe and stuff) and I hit a single enemy for 50% of his HP.
Will I get a reward only if that guy dies or will I also be rewarded for being near my fellows and for their kills?

PvE:
I need to decide what to stick to: ranger of thief (dungeons / world events).

WvW: You only get credit for the foes that you attack; you won’t get credit for the foes your allies kill.

PvE: For dungeons, Thief will likely be the preferred choice (as Rangers are in a bit of a pickle with dungeons at the moment). For world events, either profession will work – so whichever you are more interested in.

Untrue. Rangers are in a great position since september 2014 but people are just stupid and continue to hate the profession just because from time to time they see a bad Ranger.

Which is why I said they were in a bit of a pickle.
