Something of new...
Its not necessarily the class itself but more the race overall. If you want funny I would recommend playing the Asura. Their animations tend to be over the top exaggerated and they do lots of ninja flips and very athletic animations (look up Asura Ranger Sword attack animations). But since you have a ranger already, maybe a warrior or an elementalist.
The engineer has an utility skill called Personal Battering Ram which knocks back the foes in front of you. The animation for this is your character thrusting his crotch at the enemies and they are thrown backwards.
Nuff said.
I do believe that all classes can bring something interesting to a party. They are all unique and have special things that are suprising.
Given your question I would not recommend warrior. The reason is that the warrior is very straitforward. They deal lots of damage and thats basicly it.
Necromancer has some simularity’s to ranger in playstyle (pets are basicly the same as minions, traps are the same as marks and wells). The deathshroud is unique and brings some very interesting aspects to the game, but I do think it doesnt make it much different from the ranger.
So that leave Elementalist and engineer.
Both are very versatile. The engineer is more versatile then the ele. But!. The engineer is good in almost every aspect of the game, but can never excell at any role. Versatile is the engineers trademark and nothing more.
My< advice would be the elementalist. First cause you can excell AND be versatile. In the stats you actually have a choice to make and it is important.
For example. The ele’s big advantage is that the dps is always good but the armor/survivabillity is bad. Going full bezerker is therefor a deathsentence imo.
But what is funny is that with the right skills/traits and stats you can actually build yourself really tanky. And the advantage of being tanky is that you can use the heavy skills alot, even though the casting time can be almost 4 seconds
With the attunements you can be very much versatile and the summoned weapons are plain awesome.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
My advice is that you think of what you want to do with this character and then choose. For example a Mesmer is good in PvE and sPvP. For WvW the Mesmer is good at roaming and in Guild Group, but if you run with a PuG Zerg this ain’t the best choice.
The Engineer will be good at everything but will be the best nowhere. So it a good choice if you want to do a bit of everything with your character.
The Elementalist is good in PvE and WvW, but usually need a lot of change in your build for each different part of the game. Also the Elementalist is probably one of the profession the more link to the player skill. If you are really good the Elementalist can do wonder, but if your bad you can’t do anything with it (too squishy, you will die).
The Necromancer is really good DPS for WvW. With the elemenlalist it a prime Backliner that most Guild in WvW will search. But other than that not much people really like that profession. You can do a lot with it, but most people prefer other profession because its mainly a condition profession and condition damage is broken in the game.
There you go. These are all great profession. Choose which one fit the most what you want to do.
Thank you all for replies! I really apreciate all your tips.
Now i got at the final decision:
- restart with my mesmer (i usually go with shattercat/phantom build)
- start a new elementalist
but the real problem is:
clones or attudements? portal or weapons?
i’m a bit more for elementalist because i don’t think a mesmer can bring much to the party (yes quikness and portal are good but what else?) while i find weapons really interesting…
so please tell me more about this final decision (based on your pve/wvw(zergs not solo roaming) experience)… and of course the race MUST be asura :P (also for the great racial utility and … what about the elite golems?!)(the only 2 races i like are charr and asura)
Between Mesmer and Elementalist as far as WvW goes; they are both necessities in large group fights. Mesmers provide veils portals and boon strip that can make fights a lot easier. Eles on the other hand provide hard cc , water fields for heal and large DPS spikes like Meteor Shower and can essentially be the lifeline of a zerg if played effectively. So if you are looking at them on a WvW can’t go wrong with either one.
If it’s definitely going to be an asura, I would choose mesmer. They are easier to hide with, if you end up hiding in an enemy keep. Their small size makes them harder to target and their skill animations are harder for enemies to see.
