Tips for making gold? (New Player)
In my experience running dungeons with a good party is the most reliable way to make gold – a full rotation minus Arah takes what, 2-3 hours? And gets you 30-40g, possibly more if you get lucky on drops.
A more solo endeavor is gathering every single thing you find and selling the mats, which can be surprisingly profitable – I don’t have numbers because I hoard the stuff for myself but last I checked stuff like iron ore sold nicely.
Well, welcome to Gw2!
You might have already seen that this game has a bit of a different approach to many things that have been the same among MMOs for many years.
Take for example the leveling system: Every level required the same amount of Exp (I love it!)
That being said, making gold is not really done the traditional way either. Like you would assume, farming mobs, grinding areas and selling loot. Not even doing events for gold is worth it. (An anti-farm mechanism ‘Diminishing Returns’, prevents you from doing just that. (I hate it!)
1. Now, one solid way of getting gold is doing dungeons for example. After every successful dungeon you get around 1.5g for completing it.
A very difficult high level dungeon called ‘Arah’ rewards you with a little more gold, around 4-5 If I am not mistaken.
Now add in the loot that you might sell, you can very casually (with a bit of luck) make around 2.5g per dungeon run on average. (Give you dont have much Magic find as of yet)
2. Another very popular way of earning a little extra is to participate in Orr-Champion-runs. If you enter the map ‘Cursed shore lvl80’ You might notice a commander tag on the map. Its a bunch of people going from one champion mob to another.
The goal is to collect champion-bags from them which have a great loot table with lots of vluable stuff to sell on the TP.
3. Oh the Infamous Trading post junkies. Another way of getting gold.
Play the TP, flip items. Especially expensive ones. High risk, High reward.
Takes a bit of time to get into and is usually not recommended for a new player. Given you dont have much gold to gamble to begin with. (You should certainly get into that once you are a bit of familiar with the system though.)
4. Currently you can make some easy starting cash by doing runs in the halloween labyrinth and selling ‘trick and treat’ bags on the Trading post. Or, for a long time investment I recommend to keep them. They’ll go up in value again.
In the end, what can I say. You’ll be making a lot of side earnings by just selling loot that you stumble upon on your journey. T6 materials are highly valuable for example.
Just make sure to sell everything on the TP.
Once you got a good chunk of Magic find going. Around 150 + 70 from boost you can look into T6 material farming. Its currently the best way to earn gold imo. Doing a good 10g per 30minutes. Make sure to not stay/farm for to long because of diminishing returns.
Edit: Yeah, jackaljag is right. In a really good group, a full dungeon run is probably your best bet for reliable gold. Then again, I dont like dungeons… or having to rely on a group for so long. To each his own

Iron and also platinum has gone down in the last time, however you can still make
some money with it, especially if you are still leveling your character harvest everything
you see. Herb spots are also nice, stuff like rosemary or lemon grass gives good money.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Learn to run CoF p1 and SE p1+3. Also AC all paths. These are the easiest and can net you some 10g hard cash per day.
Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. It seems like there is more than one way to skin a cat in this game. If anything else comes to mind let me know on this post as I will keep my eye on it. Thanks for the warm welcome to the community.
Cheers
