Tips on acquiring gold for new player?
Run Dungeons, Fractals, and World Bosses. Those can give a Gold and up per run, plus whatever drops you may get. You have too little Gold to attempt any meaningful flipping on the TP.
I make my money through a combination of farming (I do a lot of harvesting), knowing what items are valuable to salvage/sell (this will come through experience), and perhaps most importantly of all, simply not spending a lot. Whenever I have to buy something, I always do a bit of research to see if the item I need can be acquired more cheaply from elsewhere, such as through karma, Badges of Honor etc.
Sell off whatever new items you get on the first day or so after a release. Prices are almost always at a premium for 1-2 days to sometimes a week or two, but almost inevitable fall substantially. For example, Foxfire Clusters are still selling for 1g (down from 8g or more iirc), but there appears to be pressure to drop further.
And the most efficient way to acquire gold is…spend less. Use the TP, put in custom offers (instead of taking the insta-buy or insta-sell options), and only buy stuff you really need or want. e.g. when leveling a new character, I only spend on new armor every 15-20 levels — it’s cheaper and that also means I spend less time managing my inventory and more time actually playing.
Run dungeons. Each path gets you at least 1.3g+tokens+drops. Some of them are really fast, like CoF 1, SE 1 and 3, AC 1 and 3.
Thanks for the info!
I purchase 100 bolts of silk, 20 bolts of wool, 10 bolts of cotton, and 20 bolts of linen per day and make a bolt of damask out of it. It profits about 3 gold per day with no time commitment or dungeon grinding.

It is not, you can buy a heavy crafting bag for 1 laurel and that will always give you 3 random t6 mats, so you will get ~1g-1.5g per laurel depending on what mats drop.

I don’t think that it is best to advise a new player to monetize laurels. Sure, someone who has1k hours and has already geared up may have 100 laurels that they don’t need. A new player should save laurels for ascended gear and ascended recipes. At the very least, they should save them until they have played enough to decide that they do not want to go for ascended gear.
tl:dr – laurels are more valuable than their gold equivalent for a new player.
As for a quick money maker – go to southsun cove from LA. Do the Under new Management jumping puzzle and then run north to Dappled shores looking for blooming passiflora. There are usually 2 in dappled shores. Harvest and sell the passion flowers for 20s/ea. Takes a couple of minutes for 40-50 silver.
Jack up your magic find and farm t6 mats.

they used to be. for a while I was making 2000 a day for 10s each and selling for 20s (140g profit per day)
not the case anymore. not only is that profit margin reduced to -20% to +20%, but you can’t even sell 2000 in a day anymore.

Wow…some really “questionable” get rich quick schemes in this thread…..
My 2 coppers….DO NOT turn your Laurels into gold….there are plenty of things you will be wanting that REQUIRE them to obtain. I guess once you obtain all those things, selling your Laurels is ok, but not for a new player.

Do not touch those laurels until you have gotten all of your ascended trinkets or you will be sorry later on.
Easiest and simplest way to make money in this game is one of three ways:
1. Go to Southsun and find the Karka farming party. 4 silver at least per vet karka killed guaranteed on top of the potent/powerful blood you find.
2. Always, always, always do your complete world boss farm daily. This will get you the rares you need for ectos and sometimes a nice exotic to sell on the TP.
3. Frostgorge Sound champ farm train. This gets you t6 mats to sell if you aren’t working towards a legendary.
Note…do not sell the blues/greens you pick up from bags and looting monsters. You salvage these into their basic crafting materials and sell those. That’s where the profit is. My rule of thumb is if a rare will sell for more than the cost of 1 ecto on the TP, I will sell it there but if not I salvage it. Good luck with the farming, turn on music and just go Karka farm for a few hours and you will see the gold start to come.
if you aren’t level 80 yet, go to Edge of the Mists and hop on the karma train express.
