Got 2 characters at level 80, a guardian and a ranger. I enjoy the solo combat with both.
I liked leveling a lot, it was a log of fun.
I liked not having to go to the quest giver to return quests, I liked the dynamic events while leveling, I liked the level adjustments, and the personal story.
I also liked not having to go through PvP with level 80 characters just griefing level 20 characters.
I don’t like pvp.

Mounts are missing totally. The waypoint system isn’t even close to be a replacement. It’s way too expensive to use instead of a mount, and you still need to walk from the waypoint to the target location.
I also don’t like is the dungeons system.
Starting with forming a group. You either need to in LA or the map the dungeon is on, or alt+tab to your browser for gw2lfg.com.
Not being able to play while looking for a group (suppose you’re runing dredghunt cliffs and want to do TA) since there is no built in group finder is a major downside to dungones.
Then there are the dungeons themselves. While the format of no tank and healer can be an advantage, in reallity it’s not really an advantage. It should have spared the endless “lf healer/tank last spot” with a tank char being the most wanted, but instead it made the berserk warrior a must have class in order to form a quick group.
When it comes to exp mode dungeons, the problem worsens, with tokens and gear being uniqe to to a dungeon, so again, if you like that type of content, better level a zerg warrior and look for running mostly CoF path 1.

I played WoW for 4.5 years, and found the tank-healer-dps trinity to be pretty solid.
You needed to know your job, you needed to know tacts, what you can avoid and what not. You needed to know your class and when to pop cooldowns.
GW2 is all about knowing how and when to dodge. That’s basicly the challenge.
Gear progression has come in the back door with fractals.
While this is a nice dungeon, it’s still just that. it has the overall amount of bosses that a raid has, but it’s not a raid. It’s fun, but if you start your 2nd run of the session and get a fractal once again, it’s the same fractal and the same boss. Even if it’s now 1 level higher than 20 minutes ago.

So with gear progression in the game, and only 1 place to actually enjoy it, and with gear seeking limited to the dungeon that gives the tokens you want, you’re pretty much restricted.

This makes dungeons pretty boring to run, and for 2 runs, you’ll probably spend 2 hours including finding the groups.

You can also scan ORR maps for a champion event to become available, but that’s also gets boring when done the 20th day in a row.

There is no sence of progress.
The bottom line is I’m really missing a raid like content.

Is there anything else I can do appart from pvp that can make up for that?
I like the game, but it seems like unless a proper random dungeon finder is introduced, and many more dungeons (at least 3-4 new ones every 3 months), it’s pretty much going to be the same every time.

I think your missing a guild. Give it a few days guild events may be the “raid” like content that you want.

Main : Jski Imaginary ELE (Necromancer)
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA

Sorry but that’s sheer nonsense. GW2 has a far greater complement of useful skills than WoW (yes, I played that game myself for 3,5+ years so I know what I’m talking about). In WoW on my 6 different classes I played I would use 3-4 skills at most 90% of the time, whether I was warrior tanking, mage dpsing or priest healing. In GW2 you use almost all skills as few are truly useless.

“This game isn’t WoW”

The solution appears to be quite simple, go play WoW. The amount of people whinging and comparing this to WoW is too kitten high. Don’t play one game, then play another, and complain about how it’s not the same as the first.

If not having a clear cut Trinity forcing you to play a certain play style is simply too difficult for you to grasp, then perhaps you’re not up to this level of MMO….

Dolan,
I see you eager to jump and bite without really reading the post.
It started by specifying many of the features I like about the game that are different than in WoW, and I like them as they are here.

Maybe I wasn’t clear enough describing what really bothers me.
I enjoy the dungeons to some extent, as well as that I’m not being forced all the time to play a specific role. I’d like to have a mixture of that, instead of the current state of mandatory zerg warr or go do fractals with your guild, since other dungeon groups are hard to come by.

And as I said, I’ll try out the guild event stated here by jski, and if it won’t be a satisfying enough experience, I will look into another game.

You don’t have to attack and bite. I do agree that not all games suit all people.
Perhaps, this one isn’t suitable for me.

Maybe you are correct that the game is not for you, or else maybe you need time to readjust. I recently went back to a game with mounts (SWTOR) and I have been really missing the fast and relatively close waypoint travel from GW2, to the point I find TOR near-unplayable now due to all the time sinks. That said, I liked the flying mounts from WoW where you weren’t constantly at risk from drawing aggro as long as you weren’t flying over an enemy faction city. It’s very much an ‘each to their own’ situation and I don’t think every aspect of a game will appeal to everyone.

ArenaNet has stated that they want to change (dungeon) boss fights to be more interesting (more in line with Fractal bosses), and I believe Colin Johanson has even twittered that all the Ascalon Catacombs bosses have been redesigned in this way and will be released with the February 26th game update.

Furthermore, it is my personal belief that Guild Wars 2 intentionally stays away from any content that requires organized groups of more than 5 persons (“raid groups”). Their philosophy is that such content can only be enjoyed by players who are willing to organize themselves in large guilds, and they want to make as many parts of this game available to ALL players, not just the most organized ones.

This does not mean that there will be no events suitable for large groups of players, but these are all non-instanced, i.e. either dynamic events (where anyone who happens to be in the area can participate), or special world events (like the Flame & Frost living story). Even the announced “guild missions” are said to be open-world content initiated by a given guild, but any bystanders can still participate / help the guild complete the event.

Maybe you should look into a different server if you’re having so much difficulty finding a group. It takes me maybe 5 mins to get a group together for any dungeon I’m wanting to run but maybe its different by server. Having a guild of people you run with and know each others play styles is a huge benefit when compared to running pugs and will make dungeon runs much more enjoyable.

Mandatory bezerker warriors is something your going to run into with many players looking to rush content and grind out repetative runs and are easily avoidable by just not playing with people who choose to play this way. I hardy ever run with full glass cannon warriors and have great dungeon experiences with a variety group compositions. So yes, maybe my CoF run last 10 minutes instead of 6 but I’m enjoying the game. Again being in a guild of like minded players makes all the difference, I think if you can find a group you work well with, who don’t have limited view points on how to run dungeons then you will probably start to enjoy the game much more.

There’s not really “raid type content”, and I don’t think it’ll be coming. I suppose you could find your sense of accomplishment doing things you don’t have to do, won’t matter to anyone but yourself, and are just bragging rights.

I found I got a rather nice feeling from when me and another couple people had to retake Jolfast’s on Cursed Shore and we had problems keeping the pipes clear. About ten minutes of constant, crazy “whack-a-Risen” until someone finally wandered in and managed to allow us to finish it. Followed by moving to an understaffed push for taking out the Risen Priest of Melandru.

Sure, it isn’t special. Sometimes these events are just crushed to being finished with no struggles. And honestly there are some reading that last paragraph and rolling their eyes. But it left me feeling accomplished and that was the important thing

Guild missions are coming—-no one really knows what it is, but maybe it’ll be close enough to a raid.
