Got 2 characters at level 80, a guardian and a ranger. I enjoy the solo combat with both.
I liked leveling a lot, it was a log of fun.
I liked not having to go to the quest giver to return quests, I liked the dynamic events while leveling, I liked the level adjustments, and the personal story.
I also liked not having to go through PvP with level 80 characters just griefing level 20 characters.
I don’t like pvp.
Mounts are missing totally. The waypoint system isn’t even close to be a replacement. It’s way too expensive to use instead of a mount, and you still need to walk from the waypoint to the target location.
I also don’t like is the dungeons system.
Starting with forming a group. You either need to in LA or the map the dungeon is on, or alt+tab to your browser for gw2lfg.com.
Not being able to play while looking for a group (suppose you’re runing dredghunt cliffs and want to do TA) since there is no built in group finder is a major downside to dungones.
Then there are the dungeons themselves. While the format of no tank and healer can be an advantage, in reallity it’s not really an advantage. It should have spared the endless “lf healer/tank last spot” with a tank char being the most wanted, but instead it made the berserk warrior a must have class in order to form a quick group.
When it comes to exp mode dungeons, the problem worsens, with tokens and gear being uniqe to to a dungeon, so again, if you like that type of content, better level a zerg warrior and look for running mostly CoF path 1.
I played WoW for 4.5 years, and found the tank-healer-dps trinity to be pretty solid.
You needed to know your job, you needed to know tacts, what you can avoid and what not. You needed to know your class and when to pop cooldowns.
GW2 is all about knowing how and when to dodge. That’s basicly the challenge.
Gear progression has come in the back door with fractals.
While this is a nice dungeon, it’s still just that. it has the overall amount of bosses that a raid has, but it’s not a raid. It’s fun, but if you start your 2nd run of the session and get a fractal once again, it’s the same fractal and the same boss. Even if it’s now 1 level higher than 20 minutes ago.
So with gear progression in the game, and only 1 place to actually enjoy it, and with gear seeking limited to the dungeon that gives the tokens you want, you’re pretty much restricted.
This makes dungeons pretty boring to run, and for 2 runs, you’ll probably spend 2 hours including finding the groups.
You can also scan ORR maps for a champion event to become available, but that’s also gets boring when done the 20th day in a row.
There is no sence of progress.
The bottom line is I’m really missing a raid like content.
Is there anything else I can do appart from pvp that can make up for that?
I like the game, but it seems like unless a proper random dungeon finder is introduced, and many more dungeons (at least 3-4 new ones every 3 months), it’s pretty much going to be the same every time.
