What are you running GW2 on?
Mine is an older machine (considering an upgrade soon)
Core2Duo 2.4 E6600 (o.c. to 3.0)
1GB ASUS Radeon HD 5770
3 GB RAM
Windows 7
I run on ‘Auto Detect’ settings at 1920×1080 and probably average around 40 fps or so with some slowdown in areas.
However, my CPU is routinely at 60%+ capacity just running the game.

Wow can’t believe your CPU can handle it, I don’t use auto detect I have max in animations, texture, environment and override for the best texture appearance and have stuff like depth blur and vert sync and AA off and shaders on low and that basically get me 55-60 fps n average.
My specs:
PC
AMD Phenom II x4 945 3.0ghz
Geforce GTX 460 768MB
4GB RAM
It’s not exactly fantastic, but it handles all new games well, though not necessarily at highest settings. Averaging about 50 FPS in GW2 with everything but shadows set to high.
Specs:
Laptop – 17.3"
CPU: i7 3610QM
GPU: GTX 675M
RAM: 8gb
HDD: 7200 rpm (wish I had solid state)
FPS: 50+ at pretty much all times with auto detected settings and 1920×1080 rez. From what I recall pretty much everything is set to the best quality except a few things.

Yeah, I was fairly surprised at it too. I think the auto detect has most of the settings at their lowest though. Still, it allows me to play at an enjoyable framerate.
This poor computer owes me nothing anymore it has served me well since the fall of 2006. Goes to show you what a little research and choosing quality components can do for your PC!
EDIT: Also goes to show what a good job ArenaNet did at making the game playable across a wide variety of hardware.

Essentially, the BARE minimum for the game. And it plays decently, for anyone out there who wonders if they should buy the game with similar specs to mine up there. I never really go below 28 FPS playing on auto-detect settings.

Resolution : 1600×900
FPS: Steady ~60 on highest settings, including FXAA and post-processing on high (exception : terrain & sky only). Goes down to ~50 in crowded areas (ran into Lion’s Arch to test). I haven’t done WvWvW – I’m sure there will be some drop there and will probably dial-down the settings.
With all respect, the human eye doesn’t see in fps. There have been studies with human subjects identifying objects shown for less than 1/200 of a second. In simplistic terms, the eyes care more about contrast and where contrast and change occur – they’re not taking just taking still pictures and refreshing them. This is why micro-stuttering can be highly annoying and distracting – your eye is thrown off by the difference. Whereas a movie with a constant 24fps and natural motion blur is still going to be perceived as “smooth”.
People have always said things like, “the human eye can’t see more than 15 fps” or “24 fps” or “30” or now “60”. I think we’re doing a disservice to our eyes to try to compare their ability to perceive change to fps.
