What class for a Newbie?
From what your looking for, you seem to sound like you would enjoy Elementalist. Elementalist is a caster-style character that can operate at close, medium or long range, depending on the weapon you use. Considering your looking for a speed dependent and dual wielding character, I would recommend Dual Wield Daggers.
Dual Dagger Elementalist is melee range and has a lot of movement and mobility skills to use, and have the potential to do massive damage, however they have low HP and low defense, however it sounds like you don’t care about that drawback. ^^
Other options could be Theif, which still has the potential to dual wield, but I wouldn’t say it has nearly as much mobility as Elementalist, Warrior could be an option as well, but its not nearly as mobile as Elementalist or Theif.

An elementalist sounds awesome! i’m going to probably try him first, and you’re right: I don’t care for health or defense. I can’t wait to try Guild wars out!
Hope you have a wonderful time.
Welcome to Tyria!
Elementalist is a great class but its not for the faintest of heart. Be prepared to eat dirt for a while. But, if you learn to play the class, and once you get to max level its one of the most dynamic and fun to play classes. So don’t be discouraged by the difficulty at the beginning.
Edit:
If you decide its not the class for you, might want to consider a Warrior as playing one is a lot more forgiving. Also warriors can use most of the weapons(mainhand and offhand) in the game; they have the highest health pool and use heavy armor.

I expected from a low health/armor that the beginning levels should be tough. I’m glad for that; if it was easy then I’d get bored (from my experiences’ from WoW). I hope it isn’t too tough tough though. Oh who am I kidding, Yes I do
I’ve recently purchased this game – Late, I know – and was wondering what class I should become. My eyes, after reading many descriptions have picked thief and would love some advice before I start my journey.
I’m Looking for:
- Speed Dependent
- Dual Wield
- Charge into battle – like belligerent person I am.
I don’t care for:
- Healing
- Armor
- Hunger
To be honest warrior fits all but 1 of those categories. I don’t really know what you mean by ‘hunger’ though.
pros:
-nearly perma swiftness with SoR. excellent mobility with GS
-dual wield possible for PvE
-‘charge into battle’ describes warriors perfectly
cons:
-if you dont want to heal, you can take heal signet. it will passive heal and you never have to worry abt it
-armor not rly but you can go full zerk to counteract this, you’ll still be able to take lots of hits without downing though
Speaking as someone whos played an ele, its probly one of the most difficult classes to play. this is cause they’re very squishy, u need to switch attunes alot if u wanna stay alive. not for newbies which is why i wouldn’t recommend it. however in certain scenarios they probly deal the most dps of all classes..so thats the tradeoff for your low low armor.

“I don’t really know what you mean by ‘hunger’ though.”
I just don’t enjoy being hungry! I mean you have to get up, make food, then eat it! Time consuming; unless it’s orgasmic food, but nonetheless I don’t enjoy the hunger part ~ wasn’t serious.
I’ve been playing an elementalist and I’m enjoying him. I’ve been switching attunes for heals, but I’m still new at it. I’m enjoying it and i’ll probably try them all.
I really don’t see how an elementalist is more mobile than a warrior. If you run greatsword/sword+warhorn, Bull’s Charge utility skill, Signet of Rage and have the speed buff trait, nothing this side of Tyria will catch up with you if you decide to get away. Of course, this is not your regular fighting build, unless you do WvW roaming, but you will use greatsword a lot on warrior and that will be enough for awesome mobility.
You should try more classes out, see which one is best for you.
For awesome dual-wield-charging-into-battle, go warrior or thief.
Elementalist is very hard to master. Glad you like it, but if you want to play somewhat effectively, there’s a lot to learn. Combo-rotations on staff, the long initial skill rotation on Dual Dagger etc.
Warrior is blunt, fun, has meaty combat, lots of movement-abilities that allows you to run really fast constantly, rush into battle, continually charge foes and so on. I’d recommend that one. None of the other professions seems to fit your description as well as the Warrior does.

Gw2 is a masterpiece at it’s foundation. Content-wise however…
It depends what you’re really planning on doing. For PvE content, dungeons specifically, warriors are more desired simply because they are heavies, its harder to screw up on them. Their skill set is more compact and basic, whereas eles have a wide range of skills with attunements, I use mainly d/d and s/f, thats probly more variety than all the weapons that wars can use. Eles can also stack more might and deal more dps than warriors in most PvE content, however they are very squishy and u need to be skilled to use one correctly.
Also, eles do have greater mobility than warriors, though its not as convenient:
