I would say you should probably consider playing Necromancer, Elementalist or Ranger.
Necromancers can be fun to play if you build them right. I enjoyed playing a “Powermancer” which is basically a power spec necromancer. They are good in PVE at higher levels and are able to do dungeons fairly easily. Their death shroud mechanic makes it really easy for them to survive the big hits when a normal light class would not be able to. Also it looks really cool. Necromancers have the potential to be one of the best Condition damage classes in the game, and its easy to spec one into a condition damage build. Although condition damage might not be the best way to go as far as PVE or WvW is concerned in general, but that is up to you. Necromancers though are not usually a support class.

Elementalist is a very diverse class they can fit just about every role in the game well. They are also one of the few classes in game where people recommend going with Celestial stats. Also elementalists are one of the harder classes to master. They have great versatility as far as weapons between melee, medium and long range. They are great in dungeons like AC where a frost bow can make p1 a LOT easier. Also Elementalist are somewhat of a lifeline in a zerg for WvW, a correctly placed water-field can mean life or death for a group. They have one of the strongest AOE skills in the game (meteor Shower) that can just destroy a group of people if placed correctly. The only thing they are not so great at is condition damage. They CAN do condition damage as certain skills in fire and earth inflict bleed and burning but they are not best optimized for it.

Rangers right now are looked down upon and if you take your ranger in WvW most enemies will laugh at you and say “Hey free bags” before they try to kill you. I would not let that discourage you from playing the ranger as they are one of the more fun classes to play in the game and the fact that they are the underdog right now brings all the more appeal to me personally at least. Rangers can be DPS or support. They usually support through spirits, pet skills, aoe heals and regen. They have great condition damage potential as their shortbow can put plenty of conditions along with their traps. Also certain pets can place conditions in a way other classes cant and ways people would not think off. Having my Wolf fear the enemy as I pelt at him with Rapid Fire is just pure lols.

In conclusion any of the classes you listed above could be the one you enjoy, but you may have to be willing to sacrifice a thing or 2 in order to enjoy the class. Truth is no class can be great at support, condition damage, PVE dungeons and WvW with the same build/gear. To overcome this you may want to consider leveling more than 1 character. Have one for PVE, one for WvW etc etc..

Sorry for the giant wall of text.

Overall, I’d want a Viable class who’s got lovely range, isn’t repetitive or overplayed/restricted to 1/2 specific Builds, uses strategic gameplay and is specifically good in Dungeons, WvW and in PvE (I don’t like switching Builds when it comes to ‘flipping’ my stats, meaning I’d be alright with changing a few stats in specific gear, but not full gear).

My favourite stats would be to have Condition Damage sustained (Duration over Damage) and Healing Power with whatever else is convenient to my game style/Trait setup.

Thank you!

Elementalist ticks off a number of your “wants.” It can dish out water and fire fields, blast them, heal allies, cleanse allies, and still deal damage at range. Also, they’re not simple and will require some active, strategic gameplay. Good in dungeons too.

I haven’t played one past ~40 but it seems they’re fairly limited with build options. If anyone with more experience wants to refute that, be my guest.

What is it about Necro that made you stop? Because they’re condition masters, and can take the heat off allies by manipulating conditions. Also, they can do some fair group healing support and stay at range. However, I don’t think they’re very desirable for dungeons.

You might want to revisit your Engineer. They’re a great well rounded profession that can tackle any role with mixed success. Definitely can play group support role.

Ok, as for Necromancer, I think it’s the fact that it feels like a chore to play him, mainly because I feel it’s one of these classes where you feel like the bad guy hahah, especially with the whole ‘death’ idea-It’s kinda hard to explain. That’s putting it simply; bit like Mesmer’s off-putting Butterflies and such: it just doesn’t feel like what I’m looking for (please, Necros, take no offense here, this is personal opinion).

Elementalist… Yeah, I do like the initial view of the class; I think what completely put me off was the key combinations of always swapping Attunements that made me feel it was too much to handle at once, but that can be said for Engineer, so I’m gonna pass that off as getting used to through experience if I’m honest (as you said, it’s one of the classes you’d need to master ;D)

[EDIT:]
I’m gonna test out Necro as a whole mainly in Dungeons and in WvW & watch some YouTube Condition Build Vids and look into Elementalist more deeply before I start being pre judgmental on Elementalist ;D

Thank you all so far!
It was all helpful actually!

I just wrote this more or less in another post, but it works here too:

I leveled a Necro to 80 when the game first came out and loved the minion build once it was fully traited. Minions with increased life that siphon health back to you with damage dealt + the death shroud trait that heals you, your allies AND your minions during life transfer + your healing well (that also heals your minions) = a nearly invincible mini army that delivers constant damage in pve. The minions provide a great, damage inflicting meat shield while you run around chaining combos together with your staff.

You may kill things slower than some other classes and may not do as much damage per hit, but I often found myself still standing after everyone else had gone down.

The mesmer is the closest actually, to your requirements.

The warrior has lovely range and is good in all three modes, but is overplayed, repetitive and nonstrategic. The condi ranger has good range, is strategic, good in WvW, PvE, but cannot coexist in a dungeon with another condi user and is pretty much locked into one build. The elementalist has good range, is strategic, challenging and overpowered in PvE and dungeons, but it fails in WvW. The thief is strategic and good in PvE and WvW, but is bad in dungeons due to pretty much zero supportive traits, squishiness, and is restricted to exactly two optimal builds.

Necros do not fit your description much as they suffer from the same problem as the condi ranger, except they do even less damage in party contexts, and I wouldn’t exactly call their skill rotations strategic. They are much better for WvW however. Engis are the hardiest and the best healers, but dismal at overall damage (grenade engis have the niche of being the highest ‘long range damager’, but those numbers are significantly smaller than mid-tier melee damagers). Guardians are relatively useful for all three modes, but a bit overplayed, low damage even in max damage specced builds (though a lot of guard fanboys insist the contrary) and has a very low max effective range.

I think we’re very similar in playstyle. I main an engi, and the other two classes that I enjoy playing the most are elementalist and necro. So this isn’t telling you anything that you don’t already know, but I thought I could at least reinforce what the others said. Elementalist has the edge for me as I’m not hot on the necro minions and aesthetics/lore, but other than that, necro “feels” beautiful under my fingers. I think you would enjoy both of them, give the ele a chance too

Yeah, I gave Necro a spin just now-still didn’t feel satisfied at all playing him :/

I compared Engineer to a lot of other classes and still find him the best of the lot, but on par with Mesmer; only difference is that Mesmer has too much pinky butterfly effects on the overall play style… No offence to anyone who thinks otherwise.
